I watched him as he slowly stood up from the floor where he has been lying down the moment he was thrown in here. He dusted off himself, cleaning off the stain of blood by the side of his lips.
“ Why should I believe you?”.
The man with the cane asked, he has that confused look too, looking more like he already believes him before even asking the question. All his attention were placed on Jerry, probably forgetting that I was even here, I was left in the state of confusion too, really can't believe how Jerry was so relaxed in this kind of situation and yet comfortably telling lies.
Lies?, Was he really lying?, I don't know anymore, I'm just as confused as the man with the cane, can't really figure out what he's saying. The fact I was here last night makes it more intriguing. I was here when it all happened, yet what I have seen last night and what he's saying isn't the same, I'm more like doubting what I saw last night and believing what Jerry just shared with us.
“ If you're still doubting me, my boy is here, he was here with me last night when it all happened....”.
Oh God, he's getting me involved again, what should I say?, I no longer know what to believe, he's so convincing that I couldn't even believe what I saw with my eyes, I was now doubting myself.
“ Tell me the truth boy, was that what happened?”.
The man with the cane was now staring attentively at me, waiting to hear my own opinion. Jerry still has my mom and I really don't know her situation right now, but since he didn't deny me in the face of death, he also promised to show me my mom after this task, I think I have to agree with his story, overlooking mine, but if things happens to go south out of his plan, then I am probably as good as dead, maybe I should share my own part of the story too, making me my own game player too. “ I really don't know what had happened that night, I was oblivious, trying to impress the officers by grabbing a cigarette and smoking, but all of a sudden, there was a fire and it caught my feet, that's all I know before I was dragged away and rescued by Jerry....”.
Yeah, I played my game right with my opinion, I just shared how it happened through my perspective, getting no one involved in my story, a could see the smile on Jerry's face, like my speech was brilliant, of course they were, as far as they could help break me free from this bondage anytime soon.
“ I'm sorry for the inconveniences Jerry, untie the boy and get me all the officers ”.
The man with the cane said and was about to walk away when Jerry called him back, I just hope he's not up to something, maybe trying to punish me because I mentioned his name or maybe it was even part of his plan, knowing that I will get him involved.
“ Sir, they might possibly deny that they did that, here's a hidden clip they don't know about, it's all the evidence you need.... You know, with you being the one with the general authority over this guys, I am willing to serve you directly and not under them....”.
“ How am I sure I won't be ending up like them, you just betrayed them in broad daylight, what am I going to do with a betrayer?....”.
“ I didn't betray them because I wanted something more, I do wanted more, but betraying them wasn't an option until they wanted to betray you themselves, then I decided that they're the ones who deserves it, not you....”.
The man smiled at Jerry's confession, knowing that he was making a clear convincing opinion. He made him known that he will get back to him, but for the meantime, he should just wait for his call. My hands were now fully free and Jerry took me with him.
We now sat at a bar, he was celebrating his new accomplishment, enjoying the benefit of his thinking with me. “ I'm really proud of you boy ”, he said, all his attention on the food served to him as he was devouring them.
“ Why?”.
I had to ask, I got him into this and he's being proud of me, who does that?. “ That's something you don't understand yet, I knew you were going to give me away and just like I told you last night, I have my reasons for taking you there with me, not just for the introduction, but it was for the plan..... You just have to embrace the chances you have created for our goal, when I said you were the best, I really meant it.... You're the only real one within the gang, you show your hate and resentment towards me, but the others hide it with a laugh..... Losers ”.
I was just speechless, Jerry is definitely that guy you don't wish to waste your time trying to decipher, expect nothing when you're with him, yet expect everything too. A guy like him accepted to take a beating just to promote himself and set the others before him up just to take that spot, I don't know who the man with the cane is, but I can tell he's a powerful man whom you really don't want to mess with, except for Jerry.
We really enjoyed ourselves, eating to the fullest, making this a promotional celebration, at least that's what he thought, but for me, I am just bending my back to make him realize there's still a debt he's to pay for this accomplished mission.
