Chapter 42: The mesmerizing cat

In Western beliefs, black cats are considered as symbols of bad luck, associated with superstitions and often linked to witches in various medieval cultures, especially those black cats.
Black cats are often seen as omens of misfortune.
For instance, if a black cat crosses the path of someone, it is believed to bring bad luck.
In the Middle Ages, especially in 14th-century Europe, cats were condemned as emissaries of the devil and were burned alive or thrown from high towers to their death.
Black cats, once revered as companions to witches, became feared creatures and were used in sacrificial ceremonies.
The superstitions related to black cats, such as bringing bad luck when they cross one's path, still exist in countries like Ireland, Romania, and the Czech Republic to this day.
A black cat with mesmerizing eyes, similar to the one Tony encountered, can enhance the fear associated with beliefs in the supernatural.
The captivating eyes are often associated with demonic entities, believed to have the power to mesmerize and subdue humans.
Despite these superstitions, Tony finds it peculiar that he would think about such mystical stories related to black cats.
To him, a black cat is just a cat.
Tony allows his four Maine Coon cats to corner the black cat, making it lie down on the ground, trembling, to domesticate it.
After resolving the issue of the stolen chicks, Tony brings the black cat to his room while leaving the Maine Coon cats outside to continue their mouse-hunting activities.
The previous night at Anna's house, the cats demonstrated their exceptional hunting skills. In a single night, they earned Tony 150 life points by catching 30 mice.
If Tony expands the hunting activities and the number of cats, he could potentially earn a significant amount of life points.
The commotion caused by the cats doesn't disturb Tony's parents, who are exhausted from their hard work in the fields during the day. Seeing his parents working tirelessly, Tony feels a bit sad.
He contemplates the idea of quickly earning money to provide a comfortable life for his parents without the burden of strenuous farm work from dawn to dusk.
Bringing the black cat to his room, Tony feeds it some dry food, admires the cat, takes a beautiful photo, and sends it to Anna.
Upon seeing the picture of the black cat that Tony sent her, Anna's eyes sparkled, and she immediately called Tony, saying, "Tony, are you planning to give me a cat like this? And why did you send me such a cute picture of the cat?"
"Do you like it?" Tony asked Anna.
Hearing this, Anna was sure that Tony would give her that black cat. She said, "I really like it! Even though it doesn't have long fur like the Maine Coon cats, its eyes are truly mesmerizing. I want to hold it close to me right now."
Tony said, "More than hugging me?"
"How can you compare them like that? It and you cannot be compared." Anna replied.
Tony chuckled and said, "Tomorrow, I'll bring it to you... but wait, I have quite a few things to do tomorrow; can it be the day after?"
Anna seemed a bit disappointed and said, "What's keeping you busy tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I have some tasks with the dogs and farm work. I probably won't have time to meet you tomorrow."
Anna said, "Okay, we can do it later. After all, I have Fighter with me; Fighter looks big but is very intelligent and obedient. My dad and brother really like it."
Tony said, "Is that so?"
Anna continued, "Yes, my dad even questions me about this. He asks who gave it to me."
Tony asked, "And what did you say?"
Anna said, "I just brushed it off, but still got teased by my parents and brother."
At this moment, Tony's phone rang with an incoming call.
Tony looked at the phone screen to see who was calling, then hurriedly told Anna, "Young is calling me. She probably saw that I didn't respond to messages and decided to call. You go to sleep."
"Okay!" Anna replied with a somewhat unnatural tone.
Tony heard Anna sounding a bit down and said, "Don't overthink things."
Anna replied, "I know."
"I love you!" Tony comforted her sweetly.
"I love you too." Anna replied warmly.
"Hello..." Ending the conversation with Anna, Tony answered the phone with a sleepy voice.
"You're asleep, Tony." Young heard Tony's drowsy tone.
"I had a lot to do today, so I got tired and must have fallen asleep without realizing it. Sorry, Young." Tony apologized.
"No need to apologize. I called because I noticed you weren't responding to messages and got a bit worried." Young said.
Tony said, "Why worry if I don't reply to messages?"
Young said, "Because I love you. If not, I wouldn't care about you like this."
