May's POV (Elena)
"I told you didn't I? A time will come that you..." Chase arrogantly sneered. "Will be the one who'll chase me May."
I just glared at Chase who is currently at the entrance of my door. Great way to piss me off. Perfect! What a great way to start the day—seeing his obnoxious face as soon as I walk out the door, tsk. Did he simply forget what he did last month?
I, for one, did not! Ugh, he didn't show up for a month and I thought I would continue living in peace, but hell with this guy.
"And I told you didn't I? That will never happen Chase," I countered before pushing him aside.
He smirked and shoved his other hand into his pocket while holding my wrist with his free hand. I raised an eyebrow at him, wondering what the hell is wrong with him now?
"Is that how you welcome me back? We haven't seen each other for a month," he grinned as he wiggled his brows. Ugh, annoying! "I know you missed me."
I rolled my eyes at him, "Why didn't you just rot in hell. You are never welcome, Rodriguez."
He let out a soft laugh. Why does Chase's laugh irritate the hell out of me? I want to punch him in the face and break all of his teeth. Tsk.
"I missed you too, babe."
"Just leave and never return," I snarled at him.
"Going back to the topic. Mark my words May, you will—"
Wow, he just pretended that he never heard me. This guy! When will he stop? I let out a sharp sigh and shut him off.
"Stop with this foolish game of yours. That will NEVER happen," I calmly snorted.
"Who do you think I am, May?" he asked, a smug grin on his face.
I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes. I laughed sarcastically before throwing him a harsh stare.
"The ever-annoying stupid jerk of all times," I stated in a matter-of-fact tone. "...Chase Rodriguez."
I was caught off guard when he suddenly gave me a quick peck on my cheeks before giving me a mocking grin. If I just didn't know this guy, if he was just not my childhood friend. I would've already sued him for sexual harassment!
He should be thankful that I am somewhat comfortable with him and he is just some annoying Cassanova or else he'll be rotting in jail no— oh... wait. He is not my childhood friend... he is Elena's.
"Remember that name, babe," I was brought back to my senses when he suddenly spoke. "You will chase me because I AM Chase Rodriguez, after all."
He took a step backward and turned his back from me while waving his hands in goodbye. Ugh. In your dream, you stupid jerk.
"You have a lot of explaining to do, May!" I heard an excited voice at my side.
When I turned around, I saw Yummie's stunned expression. I just shook my head and just got into her car. Yummie just kept on blabbering stuff and annoying the hell out of me even after we arrived at the office. I faced her with my hands on my waist.
"Look Yummie." I brushed my hair with my fingers in frustration. "I have nothing to explain, okay?"
Yummie frowned, her eyes are filled with disbelief, and a pout formed on her lips.
"You're so unfair, May. You're being way too secretive to your own best friend.! I'm warning you, I'm going to be sulky," she complained in a high-pitch tone. "Didn't we agree there would be no secrets between us?"
I rubbed my temples. I'm getting a headache from this girl. I sat in my chair, facing Yummie.
"That was nothing, and if there's anything at all, it's that I absolutely detest that man," I simply replied. I truly despise everything about him. I started working on my administrative duties. "If you don't have anything significant to ask, please return to your seat quietly; I don't have time to discuss that jerk."
I clutched my pen tightly. I cannot and will not forgive that jerk. How could he insult me like that?! And nope, not even in my wildest dream will I ever chase that jerk.
"Good morning sir Javier."
I turned to face the person they had just greeted, and our eyes locked. His gaze shifted. and I looked away as well. Ugh, I remembered that kiss again. How many times do I have to remind myself I AM May Gonzales? I got carried away in the moment, which was foolish of me.
I caught myself staring at Luke's back. I'm not sure why he kissed me. I wonder why he kissed me. He even said those words... I let out an exasperated sigh. A memory from last time echoed through my head...
"You really remind me of Elena." I turned to Luke. He's still staring from afar. "The Elena who made me go all crazy."
I shook my head violently. Technically speaking, he did say that too. I just reminded him of Elena. Urgh! These mixed feelings again! Do I really have the time to think about it? I exhaled calmly, preferring to divert my attention elsewhere.
I focused my attention on the documents in front of me. I've been researching the company's progress and something is off.
"May~ It's finally time for a break! Working feels like forever!" She started poking my cheeks. "Why don't we go to the pantry together?"
I didn't even bother looking at Yummie. I selected a document that got my attention. What is this? The figures do not line up. A finger brushed against my brows.
"If you keep doing that, you'll grow old faster." Yummie pouted. "Is there something wrong? Why are your brows knitted again?"
I let out a sigh. "The company's progress has slowed over the last two months, on top of that the sales are down too, and the cost of expenses is far too high for the inventories inputted."
Yummie took a quick look at the papers I was holding. She sat with her arms crossed and a solemn reflection on her face.
"I'm not sure what you're doing here. Analyzing these papers is not part of our job," she replied, nodding her head. "But, yeah. You're right."
"The numbers from last month don't add up either," I added, biting my lower lip. I muttered to myself. "Elena should be seeing this now and she should be doing something about this. A lot of the company plans and projects have leaked out too. Someone inside is deliberately sabotaging the company, but why are they still not doing anything?"
"What? What did you say May?"
I was brought back to reality when I heard Yummie's voice. "Nothing. I was just curious."
"Anyway, I'm still not over the issue with you and Chase. Did you think you'd be able to get away from me?! You really ought to tell in detail!" Yummie nagged, acting cute on me. "What's the real catch?"
Another sigh for this day. How many times do I have to explain it to this gi—Luke. We immediately break eye contact, and he walks away, pretending to cough. Hays. Yummie's overly dramatic gasp drew my attention to her.
"And now, it's with Sir Luke!"
I looked at Yummie in bafflement. She isn't usually sharp, she's usually dense, and her mind appears to be above the clouds... so, how did she figure it out? What kind of instinct does this girl have?
"What nonsense are you spewing out right now?"
"Yummie love radar is infallible!" She aggressively widened her eyes at me. "I know something happened between you three! Now, spill the beans!"
"Well, today your radar is wrong just quietly follow me and zip your nosy mouth," I answered pulling her hands.
But Yummie didn't stop nagging me. Oh come one! When will she stop?! She's as annoying as Chase!
"Hear me out, Missy. I am not obligated to tell you everything that happens in my life just because you say we are best friends!" I couldn't help but snap at her. "Can't I have my own privacy?!"
Her lips formed a shape of 'o' and her eyes reflected surprise. It was evident that she was hurt by what I had just said. Ugh! It's because she's so annoying! It's her own fault for pushing me over the edge!
