Yummie

May's POV (Elena)
I opened my eyes to find myself in a familiar uncomfortable setting. My entire body is heavy and painfully sluggish.
"May? Are you all right? Wait, I'll call the doctor first," rushed another nagging familiar voice towards me.
Of course, this is all too familiar. I've been here not once, nor twice, but who knows how many times more. Yummie entered with a doctor and a nurse as the door opened. Oh, she's my physician. Is she everywhere?
"Ms. Gonzales, I know you already know, but your body is weak and your condition is dangerous." She stared at me with her sympathetic eyes.
Of course, she wouldn't dare to lie about my condition. I'm not in need of her pity nor compassion. But I appreciate that she hasn't told anyone, unlike some nosy doctors I know.
"I can manage," I answered her boorishly. "So, when are you gonna discharge me? I still have a lot of work to do."
"I completely understand you Ms. Gonzales but please bare in mind that your body cannot keep up with your mind. I will prescribe you painkiller," she expressed before turning to face Yummie. "And you, Yummie, look after Miss Gonzales. You call yourself her bestest friend but you let this happen."
My brows met, do they know each other? How can she casually address Yummie by her first name? Even then, Yummie cannot be held personally liable for my physical wellbeing. I can get by on my own.
"Whether she's a friend or not, I brought myself in this situation," I said and meant it. I don't like how they make it sound like I can't live on my own. "I am not her responsibility nor is she mine."
"Your heart is getting weaker and weaker, and all this stress is really not helping you. Bare in mind that your heart is frail or rather—" she didn't continue talking and just let out a sharp sigh.
"Can we still do heart transplant, Auntie?" Yummie desperately asked, her eyes were misty, and tears threatened to fall. "Isn't something like that doable? We just need to find someone to make donations and then May will get better; there's still hope, right? My best friend will be fine, right?"
Is she really expecting it to be that simple to find a heart? She truly is a naive young lady. The doctor remained remarkably quiet. I, too, am aware that it is too late for my body. All I could do was live the time that is left for me.
"I'd like my condition and everything else related to my health to be kept private," I blurted out, attempting to stop Yummie from pleading for the impossible. "Exactly as we agreed, Doc... I assume you understand my point."
The doctor nodded and patted Yummie's head. Hmmm, so they were related, after all. That's why that doctor was being too familiar with Yummie— she was her aunt, ha. She came out with the nurse... when my eyes were drawn to a familiar body frame.
"Chase," I unconsciously blurted out.
"Ayiiieeee. Are you looking for sir Chase?" Yummie teased, flattering her lashes. "Oh, let me tell you, May, his sudden appearance when you nearly fainted earlier was just perfect; he was like a prince charming straight out of a fairy tale. It felt like I was watching a movie,"
She paused for a moment, and I noticed how her expression changed. "But... he's really frightening; if you only saw the rage reflected on his face when he saw you lose consciousness—"
I saw her body slightly shivering as she embraced herself. "What's wrong?"
"Never, ever, ever make Chase Rodriguez mad; every time I remember vibe and expression earlier, I can't help but be alarmed. I mean, you're terrifying and I thought no one is scarier than you are, but he's a lot more frightening! It's really bad to make an enemy out of Chase Rodriguez." She abruptly raised her arm and brought it closer to my face. "Look, May! My hair goes up every time I think about it. Ugh."
This girl changes her mood within the blink of an eye; she was crying just a moment ago, and now she's being riled up. She handed me some paper, and I looked at her puzzledly before accepting it.
"But don't worry, May. Sir Chase is still really hot, even when he scared me so much that I was afraid of my own shadow! Almost as if it adds to his sex appeal." And there she goes starting fangirling and blabbering about Chase. "What a stunning and terrifying scene!"
I opened the note and started reading it—
'Hurry and get well soon, I miss you already. See you soon, babe. I'll be waiting for you- Chase'
I crumpled the paper and threw it at the nearby trash can. See you soon your ass, jerk. He was just outside the room but didn't bother to enter and just gave me this piece of trash? How conceited of him to think that I'll go after him. He'll wait for nothing. Tsk
"I just happened to notice, May. You're getting more attractive. Tell me, are you in love? Is it Sir Chase?" Yummie asked precipitously as she drew her face closer to mine.
In disbelief, I placed my hand on her face. I then slowly pushed her away. What on earth is she on about?! Is it really necessary for me to have a man in order to feel beautiful? Can't I be pretty just because I want to?
"If we are talking about Chase... then I tell you Yummie, he brings out the stress in me!"
She raised her brows and I could clearly say she doesn't believe me. Ugh, here comes another headache.
"The Parade Perez Line is celebrating its 45th anniversary next month," Yummie went on, conversationally. "I wonder if Miss Elena will finally show up. I mean, this is the first time she has been absent for an extended period of time since being appointed to her position."
I had no idea people could change so fast until now. Elena, in my memory, was intricate and innovative. She was meticulous in her work and stated that she will never leave the company. Me changing is unsurprising given my amnesia, but what about her? I don't know. I just shrugged my shoulder in response to Yummie, of course, Elena has to. She's the CEO and even grandma, ugh.
"What's wrong, May? Do you have a headache? Should I call the doctor?" Yummie queried, concerned.
"You worry too much, Yummie. I just got my memory mixed up," I answered quickly. I saw how her face lit up. A pang of guilt crawled through my soul. I sighed and looked her in the eyes. "You got the wrong idea, Yummie. I'm sorry if I disappoint you, but it's a complicated long story. I still haven't recovered even a single bit of my memory... I don't remember anything about the May Gonzales you knew."
I saw her devasted look but she managed to put up a fake smile and held my hand tightly.
"It doesn't matter anymore, May," she somberly stated. "What matters is that we're next to each other. Well, it would be great if you remember the past but if you can't really get your memories back..." A forced smile was planted on her lips. "...we'll just have to make new memories!"
