Chapter 73: My Moon
As I struggled to comprehend the situation, I found myself glaring at him. The noise from the group around us seemed to fade away as I processed what was happening. He suddenly grew silent when I didn’t respond to his earlier outburst. Venn stood up and proceeded to escort a girl out of the room, leaving me bewildered.
I took a moment to survey the entire room, my gaze landing on the dextrose bag nearby, which I carefully adjusted on the stand to enable my mobility. With cautious steps, I made my way to the window and peered outside, observing what appeared to be the hospital garden. The sun blazed fiercely, and I noticed patients seated in wheelchairs, accompanied by nurses and guardians, all wandering about—lost in their own worlds. My attention was drawn to the right side, where a commotion was unfolding. A crowd had gathered, brandishing colorful banners, balloons, and even a wireless microphone. What could they be celebrating?
Moments later, I gasped as they formed a giant heart shape—a symbol of love. Even the balloons they held were heart-shaped. How lucky! It looked like someone was about to propose! I couldn’t help but smile as they turned this way.
"We will get married for real," one of the voices resonated amid the cheer.
Oh my! That instantly reminded me of what Venn had said earlier. Don’t tell me he’s planning to propose to me? I can’t even recall much about him right now! This is insane!
Suddenly, the song “Marry Me” filled the air:
“A hundred and five is the number that comes to my head
When I think of all the years I wanna be with you
Wake up every morning with you in my bed...”
I felt a thrill course through me as the lyrics resonated with my heart. The chorus continued:
“I’ll say, will you marry me?
I swear that I will mean it...”
While I was lost in the melody, a playful voice shouted from below, “WAAHHHHHH! How lucky! I hope to get married, while we’re just messily diving into life!” There was laughter among friends, the kind that comes from joy and shared hopes.
“Oh, how sweet! How lucky she is! Answer him, you two!” The shouts continued, mixed with the sounds of glee and sarcasm.
I stood there, overwhelmed with emotion, my heart racing. Who wouldn’t feel giddy? Venn was inviting me to imagine a future, even if I couldn't precisely remember him. Still, a part of me felt inexplicably drawn to him.
“YES! I'LL MARRY YOU!” I yelled at the top of my lungs.
But then, astonishment struck me as I noticed the banner clearly—only to be met with another woman shouting "yes" at the same moment. Her brow furrowed in confusion as she turned to me.
“Miss, if I’m correct, my boyfriend’s proposing, so what’s going on with you? Is he your boyfriend too? That’s strange!” she huffed, annoyance lacing her words.
“A-Ah... I think there’s been a mistake, sorry!” I stammered, hastily closing the window.
MY GOODNESS! THIS IS SO EMBARRASSING!
“Rhajie, what was that? HAHHAHA!” Venn called out, laughter spilling from him uncontrollably.
“I just... I thought you were the one preparing that,” I mumbled, feeling warmth rush to my cheeks.
“So, if I were to propose to you, you would say yes?” His grin widened, and I couldn’t help but squirm a bit in my seat.
“Of course not! Why would I marry a jerk like you? Being with someone who already has a girlfriend while being married to me? You think I’d say yes to that? Tsk!” I shot back, mildly stunned at the revelation of my own feelings.
He looked taken aback by my words, but I merely smirked and exited the room, my head pounding from the confrontation and the embarrassment.
It’s unbearable! How could this headache strike at such a moment? Seeking solace, I spotted a bench nearby and made my way towards it, closing my eyes as I sat down to gather my thoughts.
“Oh, why aren’t you resting in your room, baby?” a voice I recognized as my ‘adoptive mother’ chirped, interrupting my moment of peace.
“Can we just go home? Maybe there, I can rediscover my lost memories?” I pleaded softly.
“Sure thing, darling. We’ll pack your things right away,” she replied, leading me back to my room.
...
Arriving home, I was taken aback by the number of people waiting for us. I forced a smile, allowing them to guide me to my room. Engaging in deep conversation felt too overwhelming at this point since I still struggled to remember so much of my life.
I was utterly astonished when I walked into my room to find a human-sized teddy bear, flowers, and chocolates waiting for me on the bed. The person who had escorted me inside beamed, and suddenly enveloped me in a tight hug.
“I hope this helps you remember something, Bessy! I love you!” she said, her eyes glistening with tears.
I hugged her back tightly before gently closing the door.
Quickly, I began to survey my surroundings. The room was adorned with a queen-sized bed, a walk-in closet, a terrace, and a side table. It all appeared modern and elegant, yet I felt a strange disconnect, as if I didn’t belong in such a place.
Just then, my ‘mother’ entered again, smiling brightly. “You know sweetie, you’re so lucky to have Venn as your husband. He reminds me so much of your father, quite similar indeed,” she gushed, sitting down on the edge of my bed.
“Husband? I thought he was just about to propose?” I questioned, confusion clouding my thoughts.
“Soon enough, you’ll remember him, my princess. But let's eat first, shall we?” she suggested optimistically.
I nodded but said I’d come down in a bit. She agreed and left the room.
On my way downstairs, I overheard Dale teasing Venn, “Why do you think it’s only you, Joy, and your mom that she doesn’t remember? Maybe she never loved you, so let go of any hope.”
“She loves me, I knew it from the start,” Venn stated plainly, taking a bite of his food.
“Why would I love someone who couldn’t even appreciate my worth from the beginning?” I responded, silencing their banter as they turned their attention to me.
“R-Rhaj…” Venn stammered, standing up automatically.
Noticing my hair had been cut, I realized it was now much shorter, making it easier to manage. The shock seemed to appear on his face.
I simply smiled at them and continued walking down the staircase while Venn moved to catch up with me. His demeanor was strangely gentle, almost as if he were a devoted dog, though I couldn’t shake the feeling that he had become mute, speechless by my beauty. That thought made me chuckle.
“You look…” he began but faltered at mid-sentence, struggling to find the right words.
“I look what?” I challenged him, and a chorus of giggles erupted from those around us.
“You look... like...” He hesitated but finally exhaled deeply.
“What?!” I queried impatiently.
“My wife,” he declared, wearing a broad smile as the others chimed in with “kiss.”
My heart raced. The comment left me startled, my gaze locked onto his eyes. There was an unmistakable spark.
“If you still don’t remember me... I’ll help you remember,” he promised, cupping my face before kissing me passionately.
Why was I unable to stop him? I felt paralyzed, like a statue caught in the moment, his lips on mine enveloping me in a whirlwind of emotions.
As he broke away, he added, “From now on, I will court you and make you feel like the luckiest woman alive.” He hugged me tightly.
I sank into a chair, accepting the dish set in front of me while everyone else around us beamed with excitement and giddiness.
A lump formed in my throat; it was a feeling unlike anything I had ever experienced. Why did this make me feel so emotional? I realized it was because of the tenderness he showed me.
Once we finished eating, everyone dispersed to their respective activities, and I decided it was time for bed, as nightfall had arrived.
“Rhaj,” I heard Venn call out, and I turned to face him.
“Sleep well, my moon,” he smiled and pressed a kiss on my forehead, leaving me with a warmth in my heart.Download Novelah App
