Chapter 26 Mock Trials

Javier couldn't take his eyes off the bracelet on Alexandrea’s wrist. It was the same bracelet he had given to Andrea, his ex-girlfriend, and Alexandrea’s twin sister.
He had seen Andrea wearing it before she left him. But now, it was on Alexandrea’s wrist.
What was going on?
Javier's mind raced. Was Alexandrea trying to play some kind of game with him? Or was there something more sinister going on?
He decided to confront her.
"Alexandrea," he said, his voice cold and hard. "Let me ask this one more time, where did you get that bracelet?"
Alexandrea looked up at him, her eyes wide and innocent. "What bracelet?" she asked.
Javier pointed to her wrist. "That one," he said.
Alexandrea looked down at her bracelet. "Oh, this?" she said. "Andrea gave it to me."
Javier laughed bitterly. "Don't lie to me, Alexandrea," he said. "I know that was the same bracelet I gave to Andrea."
Alexandrea’s eyes narrowed. "I'm not lying," she said. "Andrea really did give me the bracelet."
Javier shook his head. "I don't believe you," he said. "But I'm going to find out the truth. And when I do, you're going to pay for what you've done."
He turned and walked away, leaving Alexandrea standing alone. He still couldn't believe that Andrea just gave it to her when it was very precious to her.
Alexandrea watched him go, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that Javier was suspicious. She had to be careful.
She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She had to think.
Why was Javier so obsessed with the bracelet? And what did he know about her and Andrea?
Alexandrea didn't have all the answers, but she knew one thing for sure: she had to find out the truth before Javier did.

Mock trials are simulated courtroom trials that allow students to learn about the legal process and develop their trial advocacy skills. They are typically conducted in law schools and high schools, but can also be held in other educational settings.
In a mock trial, students are assigned roles such as plaintiff, defendant, attorneys, witnesses, and jurors. They are then given a case file, which includes the facts of the case, the applicable law, and the evidence that will be presented at trial.
Students then prepare for trial by researching the case, writing opening statements and closing arguments, and practicing their witness examinations. On the day of the trial, students present their cases to a judge or jury, who then decide the outcome of the case.
Javier and Alexandrea were accidentally paired by their professor to make a mock trials project. Despite of their misunderstandings, they decided to work together to make the most of the project.
Javier was a brilliant law student, but he was also arrogant and self-centered. Alexandrea was a hard-working and dedicated student, but she was also shy and insecure especially with Javier as her partner.
At first, Javier and Alexandrea clashed constantly. They had different learning styles and different approaches to the project. Javier wanted to take charge and do everything himself, while Alexandrea wanted to work collaboratively and share the workload.
But as they worked on the project together, Javier and Alexandrea began to appreciate each other's strengths. Javier came to admire Alexandrea’s work ethic and her attention to detail. Alexandrea came to admire Javier's knowledge of the law and his sharp legal mind.
They also began to develop a mutual respect for each other. They realized that despite their differences, they had a lot to learn from each other.
One day, Javier and Alexandrea were working on their opening statement when they got into a heated argument. Javier wanted to focus on the strengths of their case, while Alexandrea wanted to acknowledge the weaknesses of their case.
Javier accused Alexandrea of being negative and pessimistic. Alexandrea accused Javier of being arrogant and overconfident.
The argument escalated quickly, and soon Javier and Alexandrea were shouting at each other.
"I'm not going to work with you anymore," Javier shouted.
"Fine!" Alexandrea shouted back. "I don't need you!"
Javier stormed out of the room, leaving Alexandrea alone.
Alexandrea felt tears welling up in her eyes. She felt like she had failed. She had tried to work with Javier, but it had been impossible.
She was about to give up on the project when she heard a knock on the door.
She opened the door to find Javier standing there.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I shouldn't have stormed out like that."
Alexandrea wiped her eyes. "I'm sorry too," she said.
Javier stepped inside the room. "I was wrong," he said. "We need to work together on this project."
Alexandrea smiled. "I agree," she said.
Javier and Alexandrea sat down and started to work on their opening statement again. This time, they were able to work together collaboratively and respectfully.
They were able to acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of their case, and they came up with a strong opening statement that would appeal to the judge and jury.
Javier and Alexandrea went on to win the mock trial competition. They were both proud of what they had accomplished, and they had developed a new respect for each other.
Their experience working on the mock trial project taught them a valuable lesson: that it is possible to work together and succeed, even with people who are different from you. But Alexandrea still focused on her revenge. She can't just forget her revenge plan. She must not be controlled by her emotion.
Alexandrea had fallen for Javier once before, and she had been heartbroken when he betrayed her. She didn't want to make the same mistake again.
So, after the mock trial project ended, Alexandrea began to distance herself from him. She avoided his calls and texts, and she made excuses not to see him.
Javier was confused and hurt. He didn't understand why Alexandrea was suddenly pushing him away. He tried to talk to her about it, but she refused to open up to him.
Javier knew that Alexandrea was with his brother Ian, and he didn't want to start a war between his brother and himself. He had always been close to Ian, and he didn't want to ruin their relationship.
So, Javier made the difficult decision to distance himself from Alexandrea.
He stopped calling her and texting her, and he avoided seeing her whenever possible. It was hard for him to do, but he knew it was for the best.
One day, Javier saw Alexandrea walking across campus with Ian. They were laughing and talking, and they seemed very happy together.
Javier felt a pang of jealousy, but he quickly suppressed it. He was happy for his brother, and he wanted him to be happy.
Javier turned and walked away, trying not to look back. He knew that it was the right thing to do, even if it hurt him deeply.
