"Do you have some difficulty in solving that equation?" Joseph asked her as she sat down beside Lola. He was wearing a black top on grey trousers, his hair was cut low that he looked so handsome. "I do not understand this topic at all, it troubles me greatly," she told him, sighing as she turned to look up at him. "It's easy," he pointed out turning to take her book and to solve the equation. She watched him intently, observing how well trimmed his fingernails were, "Woah, I will give you a five," she laughed as she turned to look at him, pleased at how quick he was solving the equation. He smiled, he had a great dentition, "If you have any other problem such as this. Call me, and I will definitely give you solutions to your problem," he smiled. She smiled back at him, she was warming up to him already. He refused to look away as he was entranced by her eyes, he did love her eyes, that was something he noticed, "Will you care to join me at the school cafeteria after class?" he asked her, bowing his head shyly for a while. "Is that like a date?" she asked him, her brows twitching uncomfortably. He laughed at her question, looking away, "If you think or call it so," he answered her. She thought about it for a while, she didn't think it was anything serious. Joseph was just tryna be nice, she nodded, "sure," she said. "Ok," he stretched out a hand to pull her up. Lola had no idea what was going on in his head. She took his hand, then he pulled her up. Next she dusted herself while he led the way to the school's cafeteria. All Joseph wanted was to tell her how she made his heart flutter with joy, made his heart jump in ecstasy. Or was it the fact that his heart exploded with joy at just the mere sight of her. He liked her that he would love to get to know her. He wanted to know more about her. And he would definitely get to know her. They walked into the shaded, lemon painted cafeteria, found two empty seats by the side of the left wing of the room. While she sat waiting for him, Joseph went to buy them rice and marshed eggs. While they ate, she told him tales about when she was in high school, "I was so skinny, that you can actually compare me to a skeleton, I was even scrawny, with frail arms and an elongated face. I guess I grew up," she laughed. "But that wouldn't stop your brains, would it?" He asked back, he knew she was vastly intelligent. He could tell from the way they conversed. "Of course not. I was so popular because of my intelligence, but what does it matter? Everyone wanted to be so close to me at that time. Although, I had no beautiful face, no challengeable height, I was just stark skinny!" She laughed, outrightly. "Yet you had friends," he put in. "Friends?" she bawled, laughing, "would you consider a pack of flies friends? They were just there, always there, cause you know when one get brains, everyone wants to be your friend. They were not always around even in the terrible, bad days," she told him. "It was lonely, wasn't it?" he asked, concerned, spooning some food into his mouth. "Hm, I even had a crush on one of our seniors back then. He was breathtaking, handsome," she breathed, her face rose up to the sky as she placed down her spoon in her tray of rice. His hand froze midway as he stopped to look at her, "Are you serious?" he tried to act calm, hearing about other guys being interested in her made him darn envious. "I so much like him that I told one of those silly girls around me, and they in turn gave me some stupid advice." she explained. "What advice was that?" he asked her. "They told me to go confess my feelings to him." "And you did confess?" he was taken by surprise. "Yeah," she bursted out in laughter, drumming the table with other of her free hand. "What is funny, what did he do?" he was curious. "He humiliated me!" she laughed. Joseph wasn't smiling anymore, his face grew more stern, "And what did you do next?" He wanted to know. "I walked away having being humiliated because of my looks," "And you still like such a person?" "Of course, I couldn't help it. Everything about him was just......," she stopped to look at his face, "Joseph, what is wrong?" Joseph shook his head, "Nothing, I don't just like that senior," he pointed a finger at her. "But whenever I think of him, I wish he will recognize me," she said. His face rose to look at her face, "Do you still see him?" "My senior?" "Hm," "I don't know, I rarely see him," she smiled. He had to inhale deeply to keep himself from getting agitated. He believed she was holding back, hiding and concealing some truth from him. Lola must be missing that specific senior who he had probably never met. "Let's not talk about me anymore. What about you?" she asked. "Me, what about me?" "Hm," she started to eat. "I never had much of a lively high school days....," he said as he returned to his food. Lola watched him as he ate on. What was wrong with him? why was he moody all of a sudden? She was getting used to his company. He had just bought her a meal and had saved her the expenses of her using her money. She really appreciate that, she was suppose to do these to him. "Are you alright, Joseph?" she asked him again. "Yes, I'm alright. I think I'm done here," he stood up, looked back at her then he turned to go. "Aren't you going to wait for me?" She asked him, looking down at his food. He smiled at her, he didn't say a word to her and he began to walk away. Lola gasped, looking around her. Something was amiss. "What is wrong with this guy, did I do something to annoy him?" she asked herself.
