Some years later. Anu bagged her doctorate in Medicine and Surgery at the prestigious university. She did her housemanship in Lagos. …………….. “Yes, I'm in love with him,” Anu told Righteous her friend as she came to her flat. “Hmm, I heard he has a young pretty lady he wants to marry.” Righteous told her thoughtfully. She bent her head in deep pain, knowing how it feels to be in love and not being able to be part of the person's life. Righteous got up and moved over to her friend's side as she sat on the sofa in the living room. It seems darkness looms all over as she holds Anu's hand, to strengthen her. “Iyin told me some months ago about the lady, but I couldn't do anything about it. I had rejected him over and over again. It's all my fault, you know that?” Anu yelled at no one in particular. She felt irritated with herself. “Okay, what was on your mind? Let me put it better. Why were you rejecting him? There should be a strong reason for making you do that. It may be in your subconscious mind you know?” Righteous probed. “Yeah, bestie.” Anu sighed deeply before continuing. “There is this fear in me that I am a cursed child. Look at the circumstances surrounding the birth of my child, Ayomide. Can I make an innocent man suffer with me? He deserves a better lady. I just have to allow him to be. I'm meant to be alone.” “God forbid! Why are you so hard on yourself? Bayo forced himself on you and you got pregnant. He later married you whether illegally it doesn't matter. Now he is out of your way. You are no longer bound to a man. Listen, my dear friend, you are free to remarry.” Righteous insisted on making her see reasons. “Okay, but it's too late my dear.” “Nothing is too late.” “What do we do then?” “Leave that to me.” “If you say so.” “I insist so.” A week later, Anu was going on a ward round in the hospital when she heard her name. The voice sounded familiar but she ignored it. Later when she was done, she was coming out to go to her office when she heard her name again by the same familiar voice. This time, she turned to see who the fellow was. Lo and behold, it was Babajide Badmus. She opened her mouth agape. “Hey, surprised to see me?” He said with his rich deep voice. He was simply looking amazing. She was overwhelmed by his presence and so couldn't say a word. He came nearer and asked with a smirk on his face feeling amused. “Will you just stand there, looking surprised?” “Em-em, It's quite long. I'm not expecting you to be here. Hope there is no problem?” Anu finally found her voice. “Listen, we need to go to a quiet place to talk.” Babajide declared with confidence. “Oh, is that so?” “Let me book an appointment with you. I would like you to meet me at ‘Sweet Sensations’ at Surulere by 7 pm. See you there tonight.” Babajide turned to go. “Please Babajide, can't we meet at my house? You know that I am a good cook!” Anu demanded. “I'm sorry love, we will meet at the place or l will come… hmm, no, let's meet there.” He said with a note of finality. He disappeared into the thin air. Anu stood there thinking about what he wanted to say. She became restless and was over-anxious to hear him. She thought of the dress to wear. She wished Righteous were around to help her. Finally, she got a blue dress, with a touch of red. She wore light make-up, entered her car, and drove to the place. As soon as she got out of the vehicle. About three men with xylophones were waiting for her. They started to play on. She was too shocked to see them. They ushered her into the restaurant and her spirit revived. Another singer came over to join them in the restaurant and started to sing a powerful song for her. It then occurred to her that it was Babajide Badmus behind all these. Does it mean he still wants her? He came in at last after about thirty minutes of play. She felt on top of the world. He came with Iyin, Femi, and her friend Righteous. Anu could no longer sit. She jumped up with surprise written all over her. He knelt before her and asked, while the music played on. “Will you be my wife and the mother of my children forever?” Anu watched him as he proposed and she knew that this was the time she had been waiting for. “Babajide, I've always loved you. My answer is, “Yes”. Everyone cheered, clapped and he got up and picked her up like a baby. Later in the night, Anu asked out of curiosity about the lady he was about to wed. He let out a long laugh until he doubled over. It was a good plan of theirs to get her attention. Her brother, Iyin, suggested this. Later, Righteous was involved in the plan. It all worked out for good. Anu could no longer hold her laughter. She wondered how they were able to deceive her so easily. Three months later, Anu and Babajide were lawfully wedded at All Saints Church, Lagos. What a wonderful wedding. They later went for a honeymoon at Obudu ranch in Cross River State. Their love prevailed at long last despite Anu's dilemma. They gave birth to a boy and a girl. Ayomide was duly adopted by Babajide.
