Bayo, though weak, was comforted by his wife's presence. Anu doted on her husband and went home to prepare, liquid pap to give to him. Bringing it, she fed him with a spoon, he took it and later slept off. By night, his breathing became abnormal. Anu ran to call one of the nurses to invite the doctor on duty. Later the doctor glided in and saw his condition. He looked at Anu and said calmly, "Don't worry about your husband, he will be fine." "I pray so doctor." Anu declared with a note of sadness. Her face was somehow sober and her spirit became troubled, to the point of excusing the doctor to go to the restroom, while the doctor kept on checking his pulse and heartbeat. By the time she returned much later, the doctor had gone and Bayo was lying helpless on the bed. Her heart skipped for fright, but she kept praying silently in her mind until one of the nurses came over. “Madam, please leave the room for a while. Let's take care of your husband.” “But I was just coming in to check on him,” Anu yelled, feeling both irritated and confused. “Please madam, just leave a while.” The nurse insisted on trying to be firm. Meanwhile, she was empathic. Reluctantly she agreed and left but her heart became restless and she found herself soliloquizing. She later returned after an hour and discovered that a white cloth had been used to cover him. She screamed so hard that it attracted a lot of the nurses. She picked up courage and removed the cloth, shaking her husband but he was no more. His spirit had departed. There he lay, lifelessly never to wake up again. Her mother, Mrs Moji, was around because the doctor had invited her. Bayo's relatives came over too. It was a trying moment for Anu, who was trying to sit for her examination at the Medical school. Mourning over the loss of a loved one, especially a husband was no joke, but God pulled through for her. When Babajide heard about it, he was shocked beyond words. He made a call to Anu but she never picked up at all. Once she saw it was Babajide, she would hissed like a serpent. Her traumatic experience was real. One day, as Anu stood there in her room, thinking, she heard a voice telling her to go to the living room in the hostel. She fought so hard to resist, but the more she resisted, the stronger the nudging. Finally, when she could fight no more, she wobbled into the living room and sat down watching the television. It was a cool evening on Sunday. Suddenly, she became weary and stood up to go to the library to read for a little while before returning to the hostel, then the special program came on air. ‘Life Encounter with Pastor Johnson.’ “I'm talking to you! Are you undergoing a traumatic experience? Then this program is for you. Are you grieving over the loss of a loved one? Stay, don't go away. Quietly sit down and let us reason together. The holy spirit helps our infirmities. He is here to help you out of every pain. Lean on Him, and depend on His healing power. Let Him hold you by your right hand. Drop your pain right now. Let the dead go. Release him or her from your heart. Go right on and wave at him! “ Anu never knew the time she raised her hand and waved Bayo. It was a reflex action and immediately, she felt a cool breeze descended on her. She was at peace. That was how God delivered her from the pains of Bayo's death. She completed her years at the University of Ibadan with a second-class upper as a medical doctor and bagged her MBBS. It was a great moment in her life. Babajide got to know about it and came for her graduation, bringing Iyin, her brother with him. Then it occurred to her that without Babajide, she couldn't have become a medical doctor. She rushed into his arms and he responded too with a grin on his face. “Thank you very much for being part of my success. Babajide, I'm very grateful to you. May God reward you exceedingly abundantly.” “Put it in a far mind, Anu. “ “Yes my mentor, you deserve an award from me too.” Iyin joined to appreciate Babajide. What a nice reunion for both Anu and Babajide. Iyin broke through their talk and suddenly yelled. “And when are you too going to tie the knot?” He declared looking at both of them. They were too surprised to reply. Babajide felt it was a good time to propose, though there was no ring to do so. He cleared his throat and proclaimed in his deep rich voice, “I quite appreciate your promptings, my boy.” Turning to Anu he went down on his knees and Anu protested, shaking her head, with a furrowed brow. “No, don't do this now, I plead with you. Today is a day of joy, don't spoil it.” “Today is the best day to do this! Why are you resisting the program designed by God? Come off it! You are the one spoiling the day.” Iyin protested, frowning. “It's okay, let's go back to Lagos. Maybe she is right. Let's focus on what we came for.” Babajide turned to Iyin and held him by his hand, he went away. Anu watched them leave her and she stretched out her hand as if to stop them. She later folded her hands watching them, helpless, unable to move till they disappeared into the thin air. Her heart was broken. The beautiful day was ruined. Starring into space, she wondered why she felt bad. Is she still in love with him?
