Chapter 9

Chapter 9
The afternoon with Rizer was quite peaceful than yesterday. I was quiet the whole time and honestly speaking, I didn't feel the need to retort to whatever shits that slips from his mouth. If this wasn't a different day, I would've probably kick his ass off. But as what I said, today is a different day. I've met new girl and my thoughts are running but her alone.
Siria...
She was constantly circling my head till I met her earlier. Was she okay? I've forgotten to ask her number. I could've just texted her to ask if she were okay.
Uh... It'll probably sounds so overly as we just literally met a couple of hours ago. But I was quite concerned and worried about her. Not the kind of worry that I will make her pregnant the next day after we had sex. It was a kind of worry that was so genuine to feel.
“Babe!” My head snapped as I heard a familiar, irritating voice. It was Kessie, and she was making her way towards Rutherford who was now having a cigarette in between his fingers.
“Hey, Kelly—” she cut him off
“It's Kessie!” she said with a pout. She ran towards him and throw her body against his as she pressed their lips together. I have to stop myself from puking out. Gross.
I was still having a break from the work I've been doing together with him and so did he. We are not done yet and there are few we have to finish before we could finally go home. I had also thought of a way to stop these ever-so-messy field. Maybe I will make a placard posted everywhere. It was such a bright idea. Now all I have to do is to tell it to the asshole of a Rutherford. We have to buy things we needed and he has to pay as well. He dreams if I would pay it all by myself. I would never do that, especially because it was him.
“5:37 pm,” I uttered, looking at my wrist watch.
I saw through my peripheral vision that Rizer glanced at me. “Ah, yes! Yes! It's late, you're right!” he exclaimed.
I looked at him questioningly.
He removed Kessie's body and jogged towards me. “We're not yet done. So let's go and finish it all up?” he said.
I rose a brow, and said nothing as I put my hands on my pocket. I blow an air through my mouth to his face and I watched how his hair on the forehead flew.
He smiled a sarcastic smile.
I smiled back, more likely as a mock.
__
I went home quite late. It's already dark outside and my body was tired. I lazily went upstairs and took a bath. After I've finished putting on in my usual sweatpants and white hoodie, I headed towards our kitchen.
I saw my sister in her laptop doing her project. She was sitting on the stool chair and was hardly focused on her work. I went to her and kissed her temple as I opened the fridge and find something to eat. Our housemaids came and reheated the food they've cooked earlier.
I picked up a chocolate bar in the fridge before settling down across Missi's chair. She rose her head and smiled at me as she greeted, “Hi, Michu.”
“Yeah,” I simply replied.
“Don’t forget the party, okay? You can invite friends if you want.”
I shrugged and took a mouthful of chocolate. I also requested a glass of hot milk from our servant and had my chocolate dipped there. I don't know if I'm the only who's doing this. Yeah, I'm definitely a weirdo.
“Where’s mom and dad?” I asked. “I mean, where are they now?”
“They can't go home tonight. The hospital is pretty hectic.”
“What happened?”
“An accident. School bus,” she said while busy typing in her laptop. I could already guess whe would be managing our chain of hospitals soon. She like medicine and she likes helping people. Contrary of me. “A lot got injured, kids died.”
“What?!” That caught my interest. I've stopped eating and just looked at her in shock. My eyes were wide.
She sighed a tired sigh. “Yeah... unfortunately.”
I felt a pang in my chest. “What... what happened?”
“Brake problem.”
“The school bus driver?”
“Dead.”
I blinked my eyes. “Damn...”
“So saddening, right?” she said with a smile plastered in her lips. “The kids are too way young to be dead.”
I didn't say anything. I felt bad for the children. They are too young to experience this thing and too young to leave the world.
Suddenly, Siria's voice echoed in my head. My mood went down even more. My throat felt dry and I balled my fist.
"Accident always happen. It's inevitable," I said, trying to lift up our moods.
"But we can always avoid it," she said and closed her laptop. I looked at her. She smiled and stood up. "I'm going to finish this in my room. Good night, Mich."
I just nodded my head.
"Sleep well,"
She shrugged. "I hope I could."
Just like that, she turned her body and slowly disappeared in my sight.
I sighed heavily and finished up my milk. My plan of eating tonight wouldn't happen. I've lost my appetite.
I slowly stood up from my seat and went back to my room, letting the thick blanket to cover my body as I slept there, imagining how the parents' reaction when they've learned that their children got into an accident, and how they'd cried during their helpless situation seeking help for their mommy and daddy. I felt so bad and I felt deeply hurt.
When I woke up, I'm still feeling this heavy thing in my chest. Our parents wasn't still home. My sister was sent by our family driver while I've taken a taxi towards our school.
“Hey,” Rizer said when I stopped in front of my locker. Beside mine was his. I didn't look at him like I usually does. I'm not in the mood to kid around with him. “You left this thing yesterday.”
He handed me my hankie.
I looked at it for a brief seconds before my eyes went up to look at his jet black eyes. His thick brows was creased and his lips was formed into a thin line.
I accepted my hankie and put it on my pocket. “Thanks."
He blinked his eyes and nodded.
I turned my back after I've locked my locker. My bag was hanging on my shoulder. Instead of going in my first subject, I went towards the rooftop, expecting to see Siria. But I see none.
I was about to leave when I heard a oh-so silent footsteps. I looked over my shoulder and saw her walking slowly with her headphone in her head. Our eyes met and she smiled, more likely as a smirk.
I smiled at her kindly. “Hi,”
She removed her headphone. “Hi, Mighty.”
“How are you feeling?” I asked and walked after her as she walked past me, sitting on the same spot yesterday.
“I'm fine,” she answered.
I sat beside her. “I'm glad you're okay. You seem so sad yesterday,”
She laughed softly. “I always am.”
We fell into deafening silence. And I sighed for the ninth time.
“How 'bout you?”
“Hmm?” I hummed.
“How about you? How do you feel today?” she asked, carefully.
I was kind of shocked she asked me that. I looked away immediately. “I don't know how to feel. I just learned that kids died due to bus accident and I'm kind of feeling bad for them. They're just too young,”
“Oh... I've heard that in the news.” I saw her nodding through my peripheral vision. “You're right, they're too young. And they're too... unlucky. But that's life. Some would come and some would leave. It is something we couldn't control of. And instead of feeling guilty over the things we haven't had a grasp of, let's just continue living on our own. We also would die sooner. Unfortunately of them, they went way too earlier.” She shrugged.
“I'd wished they could live longer so that they could experience world. The life is so unfair...”
She tapped my shoulder and we went quiet again.
“I've been thinking about this lately,” she suddenly opened a new topic. “I have no friends here in this school, neither did I even have a family in this country.”
My brows furrowed. “Where's your family?”
“They're dead. After my mother died, my father committed suicide, leaving me all by myself.” The nonchalant was visible in her voice
I gasped. She just laughed at my reaction.
“I-I'm sorry to hear that."
She shrugged. “It's okay. It's been a year now so I guess I'm kind of okay with this hurtful truth now.”
I cleared my throat. “If you don't mind me asking, who's guarding you now. I mean, you said you have no family, right?”
“Me. Alone,” she replied. “ Since I have no one but myself, I live by myself.” She chuckled.
I just stared at her sideways.
How could she even laugh like that?
“I have no family other than myself. My parents had left me with a wealth and I am taking care of it,”
“How old are you?”
“In the certificate or real?”
“Huh?” I asked, confused.
She waved her hands in the air and laugh happily. “My real age is seventeen but I've faked my birth certificate into 19. So yeah, I'm 17 and 19. Both.”
“You're sixteen when they died...” I stated. “Do you have any siblings, or anything else? Relatives perhaps?”
“I do. But they are all after my family's wealth so I have to get rid them off. They do not care about me, they did not even attended my parents' funeral. They are shits and absolutely golddigger. I don't even had any idea why they'd became a blood related to us. My parents are not like that. They may did a lot of bad things, but family is a family. What they have, they shared the blessing-shit to their families. But when they died, the so-called families started walking away like it was as though the family who supported and cared for them didn't exist at all. What a f*cking toxic people. And so I just live alone. I supported myself and studied even life is hard.”
I felt like getting mad for her relatives. Just hearing it coming from her makes me mad. They are shits.
“You know, I do have a sister. You could be friends,” I said and heave a deep sigh. “I know we just met yesterday and we barely know each other but... if you allow it, I could talk to my parents and... and we would've adopt you...” I carefully said. “And don't worry, my parents are absolutely nice. They are doctors and we can afford to have you live with us.”
She turned her head and looked at me in the eyes.
I quickly find a nice words to not to scare her. “It sounds weird, right?” I chuckled. “I'm genuinely concern, Siria. You could live... with us. We will treat you as a family.”
Her eyes watered and her small nose turned into a shade of pink.
My eyes softened and I lifted my hand to pat her head.
“I'll talk to my parents, is that okay with you?”
I saw her gulped as she looked away. “Thank you, Mighty. You are the first person who talked to me since I've went here in this school. It still shock me how I could easily get comfortable with you around and how it is so nice to talk to you.”
I smiled. “The feeling is mutual.”
We kept on talking, not attending our morning classes as we sat there, talking with each other. We laughed at some corny jokes and even talked about our childhood memories with our families. Just then I had learned that her parents are very unlikely to my mine. Her parents are going in and out of the country because that was their business, and has no time to spend with her through special occasions such as Christmas, birthdays, Thanksgiving, etc. Siria has a twin but she was already dead. I couldn't imagine what Siria had gone through it in such a young age.
In the afternoon time, I've decided to join class. As I entered the room, I noticed an intense gaze directly pointing at me. I cranked my head and wandered my eyes around.
Until my gaze landed on those jet black orbs. It seems like darkening even more. I suddenly shivered under his gaze and I immediately looked away, clearing my throat and raising my chin. I tried to find a vacant seat but I see none but beside his.
I clenched my jaw and looked at him, seeing his thick brows was raised and his arms was wrapped around his chest.
He then smirked darkly, making me gulp for some reason.
