Chastille Wyatt's Point of View
"Gracie. I'm out with my friends. Do you need anything?" I asked when I answered my bestfriends call. All of my friends are looking at me. "Talk please." I said and my friends started whispering to each other.
"I have a problem." She said, "naiiyak na ako, Wyatt." She said and I heard her sniffles, which made me chuckle and worried at the same time. "It's so hard."
"You're already crying. What's the matter? Tell me, Graciella." I said and she just groaned as she cried, which made me laugh because it gave me an idea. "Proceed with your next assignment, hmm? I'll be there around 5."
"You'll help me with calculus?" She asked, which made me chuckle and answer 'yes'. "I'll be waiting, Wyatt. Thank you so much." She said happily and dropped the call, which made me smile as I shook my head.
"Is that your best friend?" Jaxon asked so I nodded. "Let's get straight to the point, Chase. Do you like your best friend?"
"What do you mean?" I asked him and they all just looked at me, waiting for my answer. "I like her. I mean she's my best friend so I definitely like her."
"Romantically, Chase." Gavin said, which made me think. "We don't want to get ahead of you but the way you smile whenever you're talking to her or talking about her is just so different."
"You never talk about liking someone, Chase but you always talk about your best friend." Kelvin said and they're looking at me seriously.
"A little advice, Chase. You should start identifying your feelings. She's your best friend." Bry said so I nodded. "We all know that your bestfriend is important to you. So you better figure it out."
"I agree. You and Reese are literally so close. You may be attracted to her already since she's always by your side." Jerom said, "you better hang out with different girls too." He added that it made me shake my head.
"Graciella won't like it. I don't want us to fight and I don't want to hurt her." I said and Jaxon clapped. "What is it?"
"Got you. You like your best friend." Jaxon said and chuckled. "Goodluck, Chase." He said and patted my shoulder.
"How can you say I like her?" I asked and they shook their heads as they laughed.
"You always figure out that we like someone whenever we're talking about one specific girl and yet you're here wondering how we can say you like her." Gavin said as he shook his head. "You better start self reflecting, bro."
I was about to talk when my phone rang and it's Gracie so I answered it. "Can you get dark chocolates on your way here? I'll just pay you here." She said when I answered the call. "Please, Chastille."
"Why? You ran out of dark chocolates already?" I asked and she said yes. "Then I'll buy you here. Do you still want anything? Any drinks?"
"Anything chocolate." She answered, "and can you please go here early? But if you can't, I can wait. I'll just sleep." She said and yawned. "I'm sleepy already but I want to finish my assignments first."
"I'll be there in like 20 minutes. Can you wait that long? Won't you fall asleep?" I asked and she said 'I don't know'. "Then better to just sleep. I'll help you with the rest of your assignments later."
"But I want to do it right now." She said, which made me shake my head. "I guess I can stay awake for 20 minutes. Pipilitin ko."
"No. Sleep first. I'll be there at five." I said and she sighed. "Graciella, if I go there and you're so sleepy I'll end up doing your calculus assignment myself. I want to do it with you." I said and I heard my friends cough, which made me look at them.
"Alright. Enough with excuses. I'm really not sleepy." She said and yawned, which made me chuckle. "I want to hangout."
"We can hangout later after doing your assignment. It's not like I'll go home after helping you." I said and she chuckled. "I never win when it comes to what time to go home. I might end up sleeping over because Tita won't let me go home anymore because it's already so late."
"Alright. I'll accept my defeat now. Just don't forget my chocolates, alright. I'll sleep first." She said and dropped the call.
"You can leave us for her. You really like her." Kelvin said and they laughed.
They're teasing me the whole time. When I decided to go they followed me to the supermarket and watched me buy dark chocolates as they continued teasing me. When I arrived at their house Tita greeted me and told me to go to Gracie's room so I did and saw her sleeping. I put the plastic of chocolate bars on her side table before sitting on the side of her bed. I watched the tv but ended up falling asleep.
"Thank you, Wyatt." She said and kissed my cheeks when I woke up, which made me stiffened. "What's the matter?" She asked so I shook my head. She always does that but why do I feel different right now? "Do you want anything, Wyatt?"
"Nothing. Let's do your calculus assignment so I can go home." I said and sat down. "Where is it? Let me see."
"You just woke up. Don't you want to drink water first or eat snacks?" She asked, which made me look at her and she's pouting. "I thought you'd stay the night here?"
"I don't think I can, Graciella." I said and shook my head. "We better start doing your assignment so you can proceed with the next subject."
"Why are you in a rush? Did I do something wrong?" She asked so I shook my head. "Are you meeting someone tonight so you'll go home?"
"No. Enough with this. Let's do your assignment already." I said and she nodded. We went to her table and I started teaching her but I barely got any reply or question. "Graciella, are you listening to me?" I asked because she seems to be just writing what I'm saying and she usually has a lot of questions everytime we're doing her calculus assignment.
"Yeah. Let's finish this quickly so you can go home." She said without taking her eyes off her notebook so I continued but stopped when a water fell on her notebook so I tried to look at her face but she covered it with her hands.
"What's the matter?" I asked as I tried to see her face. "You didn't get it? I can teach you again." I said and she shook her head. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"Nothing." She answered and wiped her cheeks before looking at her notebook again. "Let's continue."
"We won't continue, Graciella." I said and held her cheeks. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?" I was so worried about her and that's when I realized my feelings for her. I surely treat her better than my other friends. It may be because she's a girl but a part of me is telling me that I love her not just as a friend but something greater than that.
Teasing her was a habit. I find her too beautiful whenever she's annoyed. That's why I love teasing her. I find everything about her interesting. I only talk to other girls whenever they're talking about Gracie. I love how they appreciate her.
"Jerome. Do you like Gracie?" I asked our friend and he laughed at me.
"I do." He answered, then looked at Gracie. "She's good." He said and looked at me. "I like her as a friend, bro. You look so obvious about liking her. There's a lot of guys who like her but none of them approached her because of you." He said as he shook his head so I asked why. "Bro, you're always with her. Binabakuran mo kasi."
"I'm not." I said and he just chuckled. I looked at Gracie when she called me so I walked to her. "What do you need?" I asked and she told me to lean forward so I did. "Gracie, why do you need to whisper?"
"Can I have your hoodie?" She whispered so I stood up straight and removed my hoodie then gave it to her. "How about dark chocolates?" She asked so I pointed to my bag. "You're really the best, Wyatt." She said and kissed my cheeks. I can hear Jerome and Jaxon laughing as I was frozen in my position. "Wyatt?"
"Hmm? What is it?" I asked as I sat beside her then rested my head on her shoulder.
"Are you okay?" She asked so I nodded.
I consider her whenever I do anything. Years just passed and yeah I admitted my feelings to her. It was nerve wracking. When I asked her to date me, I was so scared that she'd decline and we'd lose our friendship but when she said she'd date me, I was over the moon. No one can describe how happy I was that day.
For years, we stayed together as best friends and now we're together. We're partners. College and med school was difficult but with her everything was easy but of course crying won't be missing within those years. We cried together and we comforted each other. Everything was great. We graduated, started working at the hospital. We finally achieved our dreams together but there's always something that will go wrong— I got attracted to Nurse Liza.
It was hard to admit it to Gracie but I did. I can't accept it but fate was playing with me.
"Dr. Hudgens. Can I sit here?" Nurse Liza asked and sat across from me before I could even talk. "Dr. Solis did a great job at the OR." She said, which caught my attention. Years have passed but I still find myself getting caught up everytime someone talks to me about her. I always love how other people talk about how good she is.
Nurse Liza always talks about Gracie whenever she sees me and I can't help myself but to focus on what she's talking about and smile because she's praising my girl but little did I know Graciella saw it everytime.
She tried to fix our relationship while I gave her time alone. I'm so dumb to do that because I hurted her more. I'm so stupid.
"Chase, your girlfriend isn't doing alright? What happened to the two of you?" Jaxon asked and sighed. "She's acting so differently."
"We're not okay, Jaxon." I admitted to him and explained. "Can you take care of her for me? I'll just figure this out. I also want to give her time."
For a week or two I was busy and so Gracie. She's always doing something and I'm worried about her but I kept my distance but I had enough.
"Chase, ayoko na. Pagod na ako. Hindi ko na kayo kayang makita sa hallway." She said and it was like a slap to me. "Tama naman na. You know how much it pains me when you look at someone the way you look at me. Ayoko nang makita 'yon, Wyatt. Ayoko na." She always told me how much she hates it whenever she sees me looking at other girls or anyone with the same eyes as I look at her. I didn't know that I look at Nurse Liza that way. "Let me go. Hiwalayan mo na ako, Chase."
"Why would I do that?" I asked and about to talk again but she suddenly passed out. "Fuck, love. Gracie, wake up." I said and I carried her out of my office and ran to the ER. I'm panicking, I don't know what to do. "Graciella." I called her as someone checked her. I'm holding her hand tightly. I don't want to let her go.
She was fine, she's just tired, that's why she passed out but hell it was dreadful waiting for her to wake up. I feel so bad. "I want a new nurse." I said and closed the door before Nurse Liza could enter. Jaxon called me but I stand firm on my decision. I stayed with her when she woke up. I explained and she's so understanding but stands with her decision about us breaking up.
"But I'm always open, Wyatt. I can take you again if you find your way back to me. I can accept you again. Ganun kita kamahal, Chastille." She said, which made me ask if I really deserve her.
