Chapter 23 Panic

Yuto found himself repeatedly glancing at the text messages he had received from Hara, reassuring him that she would be home soon. As time passed without her arrival, a sense of worry began to gnaw at the edges of his thoughts.
He checked his phone again, hoping for a new message or an update on her whereabouts. The minutes ticked by, each one seeming to stretch longer than the last as his concern deepened. He knew Hara was capable of taking care of herself, but the feeling of unease remained.
His mind began to conjure various scenarios, each one more worrisome than the last. He considered texting her, but he didn't want to come across as overly anxious or intrusive. Instead, he glanced at the clock, silently counting down the moments until he would see her again and find solace in her presence.
As the minutes continued to pass, Yuto's thoughts remained focused on Hara, his anticipation mingled with a hint of anxiety.
Yuto's heart raced as he left the confines of their home and ventured out into the evening. The fading light of day cast long shadows, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty that mirrored his growing unease. Hara's absence had stirred a restlessness within him, propelling him forward with a mixture of worry and determination.
As he followed the path that Hara usually took, his eyes scanned the surroundings, searching for any sign of her. Every minute that passed without a glimpse of her seemed to stretch infinitely, amplifying his concern.
And then, his gaze landed on something that made his heart skip a beat—an image that struck him like a punch to the gut. A single shoe lay abandoned on the road, a stark and unexpected sight that sent a jolt of alarm through his veins. It was a shoe he knew all too well, one that belonged to Hara.
Fear gripped him as he picked up the shoe, his mind racing with worry. Questions surged to the forefront of his thoughts. How had her shoe ended up here? Where was she? Was she hurt? His instincts kicked into high gear, urging him to move swiftly and find her.
"Hara!"
As the sky shifted toward darkness, Yuto's pace quickened, his strides becoming more urgent. He scanned the area, calling out her name with a mix of concern and urgency. The once-familiar path now felt like a labyrinth of uncertainty, each step carrying a weight of anticipation and fear.
His heart pounded in his chest as he pressed on, driven by a fierce determination to find Hara and ensure her safety. The shoe he held in his hand served as a poignant reminder of her vulnerability, spurring him forward despite the encroaching darkness.
"Hara!"
Yuto's search became a desperate quest, fueled by love and concern. As he continued down the path, his thoughts were consumed by a singular focus—to find Hara, to hold her in his arms, and to bring her back to the safety of their home.
Yuto's brows knitted together as he bent over, his breath coming in unsteady pants. His fingers trembled slightly as he hastily pulled out his phone, his heart pounding in his chest. He dialed a number, his voice carrying a note of urgency as he sought information that could ease his growing nervousness.
"Hello, Mr. Chen, is Hara still at your house?" he inquired, doing his best to conceal the rising anxiety in his voice.
"Yuto? Hara left a while ago," came the response, causing Yuto to release a frustrated sigh.
His grip on the phone tightened as a mix of frustration and worry churned within him. "Yuto? What happened?" Mr. Chen's concerned voice reached him, but Yuto swiftly ended the call, his emotions threatening to overwhelm him.
Guilt gnawed at Yuto's thoughts as he blamed himself for the situation. He squeezed his eyes shut, feeling the sting of tears at the corners of his eyes. "This is my fault," he muttered, the weight of responsibility heavy on his shoulders. Taking a deep breath, he attempted to regain his composure, determined to act swiftly and decisively in the face of the uncertainty that had befallen him.
Summoning all the strength he could muster, Yuto wiped away the tears that had welled up in his eyes. He couldn't afford to lose focus now. With a firm resolve, he began piecing together the fragments of information he had collected—the cryptic stranger, The Viper Cartel's ominous presence, and their unsettling intentions. He knew that Hara's safety hinged on his ability to navigate the treacherous world that had unexpectedly intertwined their lives.
Despite the turmoil inside him, Yuto's hands steadied as he dialed another number on his phone, his fingers moving nimbly despite his anxiety. The call connected, and a familiar voice greeted him from the other end.
"Hello, Yuto. How can I be of assistance?" The voice exuded a composed calmness, a contrast to Yuto's racing thoughts.
"Sebastian," Yuto's voice quivered with urgency, "I need your help. Hara's missing, and I suspect The Viper Cartel's involvement."
A moment of silence followed on the line, then a sigh. "I had a feeling it might come to this," Sebastian's tone carried a note of resignation. "I'll mobilize our resources and launch an investigation immediately. Keep me informed about any developments."
Yuto's grip on the phone tightened, a mixture of gratitude and frustration coursing through him. While he appreciated Sebastian's readiness to act, a sense of helplessness gnawed at him. Hara was out there, exposed to unknown perils, and he was determined to bring her back unharmed.
"I'm coming with you," Yuto declared resolutely, turning on his heels to sprint back to his home, where his car awaited.
