Chapter 14 Deceptive Paradise

There were enormous buildings in their sight. Those buildings were tall and sturdy. Most of the buildings they were seeing were made of stone but not far away, the tallest building was made of lustrous glass.
Revi and Felix’s jaws dropped as they saw the world outside the island. This is very different from Atolon. Not only in the buildings but also in the clothes of the people here.
Revi beamed. “This. . . is the world I saw in my dreams! ” She gazed at her father. “Father, the outside world! We’re here in the outside world! ”
The young and fragile Renata was ecstatic as she looked around. For a moment, the sins of Madreign’s people on her island disappeared from her mind. For now, she felt some freedom because she was finally outside Atolon as she always wanted.
Deafening chatters entered the Vigliancos’ ears as they walked along the side of the road. They walked slowly while observing the outside world.
In the center, there were large glittering metal four -wheeled carriages. The edges of that metal have windows. The windows of the other moving metals were reflecting an image while the others allow people to see what’s inside that metal. At the back of it, the metal was emitting black smoke.
That’s not the only thing seen in the middle of the road. Others looked similar to bicycles but were thicker and faster. Just like the ‘metal’ earlier, it was also emitting  black smoke.
"F-father," Revi called her father. When Felix gazed at her, she said, “are they improvised horses? Or. . . upgraded carriages? ” She pointed to the moving metals in the middle of the road.
Felix pinched her daughter’s wrist a bit. “They are more like upgraded bicycles. Those things didn’t even have an eye or anything like life!”
Renata just nodded and gave attention to her surroundings. Until now, she still can't believe it. It was as if she had just asked heaven to fulfill her dream and her wish was immediately granted by the gods.
Renata walked slowly and was unaware that she was slowly moving away from Felix. She stopped in front of a store. There her hands began to tremble. “H-hey, Miss. What. . . are these? ”
The vendor grinned. “Oh these, little kid? These are ice creams.” The slack jawed look of astonishment in Revi’s face made the vendor laugh. “Do you want to taste it?” She carefully handed the ice cream to Revi.
“Ice . . . cream?” Renata received the desert from the vendor. She slowly took a bite and dumbfounded.
The vendor chuckled while looking at the young girl standing in front of her.
After Renata took a bite, she scoffed until it turned into laughter. “Is this really ice cream?” The child was beaming. Her eyes began to sparkle. Her heart started to beat rapidly. She trembled even more.
As soon as the vendor nodded, the edges of Revi's lips lifted. Her smile reached the sky. She continued to eat ice cream until her clothes were stained and her face was dirty.
“Ice cream — it’s real!” Renata jumped up and down while laughing, incredulous. In a short time, she immediately finished eating her dessert. "Ice cream!" she shouted.
She had finally proven that what Vida and Ender said was true. The dessert was cold but had a unique flavor. A rich and sweet cold meal made with different flavors of dairy products called ice cream. This was the food Renata was always wanting to taste.
Felix, on the other hand, was worried about Renata as soon as his daughter went missing. He was restless. Frustrated, he walked along the side of the road looking for his one and only child.
While searching, he was slightly surprised. The surrounding was chaotic and there were so many people that they were almost crowded. As a result, Felix found it even more difficult to find Renata.
"Father!" That voice entered Felix's ears.
He immediately turned around. “R-revi! Revi, where are you?!” Felix's heart beated rapidly as he searched the area to find his child.
Someone touched Felix. He almost jumped because of that. Stunned, he looked at the one who touched him. The first person he saw in his sight was Renata.
Out of sheer concern, he hugged the child tightly. He scolded her, “where did you go?! Don’t. . . ever leave my side again please, Revi. ”
Revi was a little surprised by his father's reaction. She could do nothing but say, “F-father. . . ”
Felix carried Revi. He kissed her on her forehead and started walking away. “Promise me, Revi. Promise me not to leave my side unless I ordered you to do so. ”
Renata nodded.
A strange noise from north caught the attention of Vigliancos. Not so far away, they saw a dragon dancing in the air, being controlled by some random men. There were also a group of dancers wearing costumes; creatively decorated parade cars; young men and women playing instruments; and ladies and gentlemen above parade cars, waving to their audiences. All of those advanced, sharing their joy and beauty to the people.
Renataʼs eyes widened as she saw the colorful parade. “Itʼs . . . beautiful,” she uttered. Her eyes reflected the scenery she’s watching. Every movement, every beat, and every melody of the festival touched her soul. Renata gave them a look of astonishment and left while being carried by her father.
They walked around, finding some place to stay. Suddenly, Renata got distracted. “Father, food.” She pointed to the stalls selling some bread with vegetables and steak.
Felix sighed and landed Revi on the ground. He just ignored the child and brought it somewhere.
“No . . .” Renata’s voice was trembling. She slowly left her father to go back to the store earlier.
"Renata," Felix threatened. He chased Revi who was already in front of the store. "Renata, let's go."
Revi pouted and slowly gazed at her father while holding the bread. This made Felix lower his face and cover it with his hand. He sighed again.
Revi slowly approached him. "Please?"
"Uh, excuse me, sir?" the seller interrupted the conversation between the father and son so that the attention of the two was already on him.
“Oh.” Felix chuckled. “I’m sorry for this. We’re not buying any.”
“Father!” Revi was disappointed when she heard her father.
“Renata.” Felix widened his eyes and glared at Renata.
“I see, but I can give it to you for free. It seems like you’re tourists,” said the vendor.
