Chapter 15 HIDING
Jason had initially felt restless when he got home after school. He realized that he needed to do something pertaining his advice to Blue. He rushed off to the garage, took a Honda Accord. He had luckily managed to steal its key from his father's study where he kept most of his cars keys.
He wanted to do something to appease Blue. He knew that he had hurt her beyond measures. He must make up for it, either way.
Even as he threw stones up the window of her room, he had no idea of what he would say to her. The sight of her alone made him a nervous wreak. How could he admit to her that he usually stalks her? He had to make her trust him. And that was his plan.
He took her to a stylist who cut her hair low, gave her two suitable wigs which she can wear around. Thereafter, she can play basketball with her cut hair under another name.
That was a risk, he told her as they drove back to her house. Coach Bernard needed the best, he had an illness not to recall faces. And that was what Blue would use to her advantage. She would go under another name attached to her surname. Coach Bernard wouldn't sniff anything.
They would work out something about Hanson and his cohorts being able to recognize Blue.
"Whose car is this?" Blue looked around, patting the wig which still sat on her head while she held the other close to her head.
Jason didn't know what to say to that. Blue was smarter than what he thought he knew of her. She could smell a fowl as well as a lie.
"One of my father's. I took it from the garage."
She looked over at him. "You don't have a car yet?" She asked him.
"I don't own one yet, although I can drive. I'm sixteen, when I clock 18, I might get a car." He had to say the truth.
She nodded.
"Do you talk to your mum?" He asked her.
"My mum?" She looked back at him in surprise, to which he nodded.
"Yes, your mum. Don't you atleast miss her?"
She smiled at that. "I do miss her. I hardly get to talk to her since she works over time."
"That's harsh. That's a terrible way to live. She needs rest and some vacation." Jason put in.
"My mum is a hard woman. She wouldn't even listen to me. I wish to talk to her though." She smiled again.
He drove into a mini parking lot close to her house and packed.
"Why not come in for a while?" She turned to ask him.
His eyes bulged in surprise. It was almost 6 minutes to 9. He threw a quick glance at his wristwatch.
"We'll be quick. I want to show you a picture of my mum." She smiled at him.
They went in the same way that they had sneaked out. She snugged out an old, musty album from the last of her drawers. She took her seat on the edge of the bed and beckoned him to join her.
He was careful, his skin brushing hers was like wild fire. She flipped through the pages, showing him pictures of herself and her mother.
He looked back at her, wondering why she was still wearing the wig.
"Why don't you take the wig off, you're home now." he told her.
Blue shook her head. "I look good in it, don't I?" she smiled sweetly at him.
He nodded, turning to look back at the album. Then, he laughed when he saw a particular funny picture of her pouting her lips and being dressed as a boy. She was watching him laugh with glowing eyes that they both got carried away, staring at each other.
"Blue?"
Blue and Jason startled at the sound of Danielle's voice. They fidgeted, not knowing what to do. The moment that door would be opened, they sure would have a lot of explanations to do.
"Get under the bed, NOW!" Blue shoved him below the bed.
"How will I get under the bed?" Jason mouthed back at her, trying to get to the window.
She pulled him backwards, pushed him downwards and under the bed. The moment he was under the bed, the door opened and her Aunt walked in.
Blue stood up like a statue, smiling from ear to ear that Danielle found that appalling. Danielle was dressed in another different kind of pyjamas. Her hair was covered in a turban as usual.
"What's wrong? Why are you standing like that?" Danielle asked, studying her room.
"Nothing, aunt Danielle." Blue answered, picking up her picture album. "I was just going through my picture album thinking of my mother." She added.
"Your mother is on the phone. She wants to talk to you." Danielle said to her and they both got out together.
Jason waited till the room was quiet, he rushed out quickly. Blue had nearly suffocated him by pushing him under the bed. He groaned softly, looked around as he picked a pen and a piece of paper. Then, he scribbled something in it, folded it and rushed out through the window before any of them would get back to the room. He hope she sees it and get him the reply he wants.Download Novelah App
