My mind seems to be stuck on one thing. Pil Ho. That stubborn boy whom I gave an order to leave after an hour. It's been several hours now, I wonder if he made it back to the estate safely. I wonder if my Father will do something when he doesn't hear from me. Or whether he will start preparations for a funeral.
I'm not our Father's favorite son, I know. Our brother, Chang is his favorite and my Father can flip the world over if it's for Chang or Tae Ho. Unfortunately not for me. Because the woman he cherished the most in the world died because of me.
Mother gave her last breath of life to me when I shouldn't have been born. I was supposed to die, and she was supposed to live. But because I'm in the one who lived in the end, I had to do so many bad things in my life just to prove to my Father that I'm not completely worthless. Drugs, trafficking, and all sort of activities that are labeled as illegal.
If I die in this cell, it will be because of Karma.
"Master Jin." Someone whispers, and it takes a couple of seconds before I snap out of my thoughts, recognizing Hana's voice.
The cell is dark but I can hear the sound of her footsteps coming from the door.
"Over here." I whisper, a little loud enough for her to hear me. I'm tied up on a chair so I'm not able to make a move.
"Here, use the flashlight on my phone." A different voice says, and I realize that Hana isn't here on her own. "I'll go to the other cell and untie your brother." The voice adds, before I hear the sound of the iron door opening and closing once again.
Hana appears before me and within some few minutes, she has worked her way around the ropes tying my hands.
"Master, are you okay?" She ask as she tries to help me up, her hands wrapped around my arm. "Ohmo, did Sergio hit you? Your eye looks swollen."
Sounds like she's worried about me. I shouldn't be focusing on any other things but our escape, damn it! But my heart is suddenly misbehaving.
Come on, she's just my favorite maid, I shouldn't harbor feelings for her.
But why do I feel like I've missed her?
I went through all that trouble just to come and get her. I've never done something like this for anyone in my life, but still, that doesn't mean it's because I have feelings for her, does it?
I want to hug her, but I shrug the feelings immediately. "I'm fine, don't touch me."
She quickly lets go of my arm. "Sorry. I thought you might need my help. We need to hurry, my brother is in the next cell."
"I don't need your help. You're the one who needs my help." I clarify. "By the way, we cannot trust that girl that is helping you."
"Of course we can trust her. That was Sergio's sister, Paulina, but she's also my friend and she just wants to help us escape."
"If she really wanted to help, she should've given you a gun."
"We're not killing anyone. We're just escaping."
"So naive and stupid." I scoff as I snatch the phone from her hand. I turn off the flashlight before pulling the iron door. "Stay behind me. And watch the way you walk."
As we move out, I stop by the next cell and Hana overtakes me and make her way into the cell. She reunites with her brother, while I keep watch in the corridor for any signs of movement.
After some minutes, Kai comes out limping, and the two girls also follow him out of the cell.
"Lorenzo. I can't make it out in my situation." He says in a hurry. "Please take my sister away and keep her safe. I'll stay behind and buy you some time."
"No!" Hana snaps at him. "We're leaving together. No one will be left behind."
"But—"
"Listen to your sister." I cut him short before he can start an argument with her.
"Once you reach the end, you'll find the exit on the right." Sergio's sister says as they hug with Hana. I have an urge to grab her and use her as a cover, but because of Hana, I am forced to control my urge.
"Let's get going." I grab Hana's hand and begin to move, while Kai follows behind us.
Once we're at the end, we take the exit door on the right and it leads us outside to the back of the building.
Shit! I pull Hana down with me as Kai smashes his fist into the face of the security man who was cracking a rifle. Damn, how did I miss that? He could've shot one of us if Kai wasn't so fast.
"I'll take the lead." Kai says as he unstrap the rifle from the man's body.
"Let me have the gun."
"No. We're not shooting anyone Lorenzo. Unless we have no choice."
I huff under my breath. What do they take me for?
Following Kai, we make a quick move towards a van and take a cover.
"There are too many of them." Hana whispers. "How can we pass them?"
"They're drunk. We just need to create a distraction." I grab a piece of stick which was lying near the van's tire.
"Wait!" Kai grabs my arm seconds after I've already hauled the stick to a direction and a dog begins to bark harshly. "I was going to warn you about the dog."
"Shit. We have to run." I grab Hana's hand and we begin to run as the dog chase after us, barking.
"Shoot the damn dog!" I yell at Kai who's acting clumsy with the rifle. I'm trying to run fast but Hana is slowing me down and the dog is catching up to her. "Aisshh! Throw that fucking gun if you can't shoot it!"
As Kai throws the rifle, I let go of Hana's hand for a moment to catch the rifle. By the time I pull the trigger, Hana has fallen to her knees and is screaming as the dog falls dead on her bottom.
Kai pulled her away and hug her while I take a moment to get a grip on myself. That dog was so fucking close to biting her.
"Over here! They're coming this way!" A car drives ahead of us with Pil Ho's head sticking out the window and yelling at us. "You need to hurry up Sir!"
My chest swells in pride as I run to the car and pull the backseat. Kai shoves his sister in before he jumps next to her. I'm the last person to get into the front seat before we heard several rounds of gunshots aimed towards our car.
Pil Ho drives in a frenzy as we fled the vicinity.
