Chapter 23 The Issue With Chris

Chris felt absolutely useless. The two women of his life were close to physical over an omega while he was standing behind them, not knowing who to support.
Aiden grunted, and Kaitlyn quickly knelt close to him, holding him in a sitting position.
"Aiden. Look at me." She said, cupping his cheeks, her big teal eyes carrying uncensored worry.
"Lyn." He managed to say again. "Yes, its me. Lyn. Your Lyn. "
He nodded, then gave a small moan of pain. "My head hurts.. "
He said, his eyes relaxing as they finally settled on her. Her eyes, big and teal, her hair, glorious, her skin like milk. Even with the throbbing pain at the back of his head, he could remember all the reasons he had fallen for her.
And all the reasons he continues to stay madly in love with her. He closed his eyes momentarily, everything and everyone around them fading away. Kaitlyn straightened, then sat on the floor with her legs outstretched, so she could rest his head on her lap.
"Aiden, don't pass out. I'll heal you." She said, then placed a feathery kiss on his forehead. Linda rolled her eyes.
Now that she'd come off her anger and listen, she realized, it was better that he had actually rejected her. That way, she would have him without the pain of her werewolf eating her own mate. Her lips parted in a lopsided smile, before she turned, went in to her home and closed it with a bang.
The light was dim and easy on his weak eyes as he opened them slowly, the dark colors of the ceiling attracting him. His eyes were almost the same color, but not quite. He had only a slight ache from his earlier fall, and nothing else.
"How do you feel?" He didn't need to check. "Lyn?"
She came in front of him, nodding. "Yes, Lyn. How do you feel?"
He bit his lower lip, wondering whether directing his many questions at her right now would be a good idea.
"I feel better. Where am I?"
She pushed closer to him, her hand going to the back of his head, her fingers tracing the skin in the back of his neck.
She then buried her fingers in his hair till she could feel the small ridge left of the wound. "Its all healed. Sorry you had to go through all that." He sniffed.
"Do you still think we are meant to be?"
Her eyes met his, and there was already building resistance in hers.
"What do you mean?"
He swallowed. He loved her. With every fibre of his being. But what if....what if they were going wrong?
He didn't care about the wrong, but...why did they keep on facing things? Getting separated? "Why us?"
This time he searched for the answer in her eyes, darting from one eye to the other, hoping he would find an answer that would convince him they were meant to be.
"I am sorry, Aiden. Everything keeps going wrong and its always because of me. First I barged my way into your life..."
"As if I wouldn’t want you to barge in a million times over." She smiled at that.
"Are you going to let that love go to waste, then?" She was playing with his fingers, and watching his eyes.
"I am not sure.if you didn’t invite me, Lyn, who did?" Her brows furrowed.
"Who did?" She echoed after him.
He laughed a bit, before his features straightened out again. "It's been a while, Lyn..it didn't start now." He said with a shrug.
"It will have to end now, Aiden. I don’t care who'll get hurt, as long as it's not you."
She made time stand up, but he pulled her back. "Just a minute." His voice came in a low whisper, and his fingers traced the side of his face, moving her hair and tucking it behind her ear. She moved closer, her eyes closing and he laughed. "The effect..."
"You caused it." she said, her breath hitching. "No..its all You"
She smiled as she rubbed their noses together. "How?" His hand cupped the side of her waist, rubbing linearly.
She arched towards him. "I don't know what I’ll do if I ever lose you, Lyn. I went through that once, I can't do it again. You don't mean the world to me, you mean way more than that. I didn’t think these flames could be rekindled once more, but here you are, setting my heart on fire over and over again, it can only be you. Just you."
He kissed her lips then pulled back.
"Just me. I like how that sounds."
He nodded, and she didn’t have to open her eyes to know he did cause their faces were still leaning on each other.
"It's just you." He said, his breath tingling her skin, setting her on a fire she didn’t know how to explore.
She laughed as his hand came in contact with the skin under her shirt, causing tingling sensations to erupt from the point of contact.
"Aiden.."
"Yes?" He answered knowing fully well she wasn’t calling him..
"Uhm....why don’t you suspend that for a bit?" Kaitlyn drew back abruptly, causing Aiden to topple forward, over the edge of the bed and land on his face.
"That must have hurt." Her dad added, trying hard to hide his amusement.
Aiden straightened, and bowed. "Greetings, Alpha."
He said in one breath, his voice surprisingly steady. The alpha only nodded.
"There is an issue with Chris. We need to sort that out before you carry on with your business."
He said simply. Kaitlyn stiffened.
"What's that?" The Alpha shrugged.
"Why did you come home asking to get married to him?"
She shrugged, catching Aiden's disgusted look. "I was depressed. Why?"
The alpha sighed. "The entire pack has news of your marriage come morning."
