Chapter 45 The Covenant!
"Your what?" Lolita screamed in alarm.
"He is my brother, Lolita," Kurah responded. Then she watched her friend's expression change from shock to anger, and to many more emotions hidden in her eyes that Kurah didn't dare to probe.
She continued in a small voice, "I always spoke to you about him, right? Now you remember him, don't you? Lolita, please help me. Please!"
"What the f**k? Alpha Gavin is your brother? He is Kuralis?" Lolita blurted out in anger.
She couldn't help asking animatedly, "Is this a joke? Kurah, is this a joke? If it might interest you to know that your dear brother ordered the murder of my grandmother. You can ask his two sidekicks for the details."
Lolita was so angry that she wanted Kurah to know she would do nothing to save Gavin, not even if he was her brother. "I'll tell you this, there is nothing I'll do to save your brother. You already know how much I hate him.
I gave him a gift once, now I take it back. Sorry, Kurah, but I can't help you." Kurah was totally shocked to hear Lolita's words.
However, her friend was in pain, and she could tell the turmoil hidden in her clear eyes. She knew how much Lolita hated the supposed bastard who murdered her grandmother. Even she hated the bastard as much. Now it turned out the bastard is none other than her beloved brother. She couldn't get herself to call on Lolita to help Gavin anymore.
Kurah fell limply onto the floor, placed her hands on Gavins's chest, and then she began transferring her life force to him. She didn't have much left of herself anyway, but whatever she had left, she wanted her brother to have it all.
Everyone watched with different thoughts and expressions. Lolita, however, was shocked at her friend's actions. "She's willing to die for him!" She mumbled in confusion.
Then she blurted out in shock,
"Kurah!!" Lolita knew that nothing Kurah did could wake Gavin up. She would rather hurt herself in the process. He was doomed to die since the day he laid a hand on her grandmother.
As she took steps toward her to help her, Kurah said weakly, "Please, don't come close. I want to exchange my life for his. I know it's not enough, and I am extremely sorry. But my brother cannot die like this.
Lolly, my brother is not a bad person. I can't ask you to forgive him, but I believe there is more to this. I just hope you find the answers you seek. I'm so sorry for everything. Be happy, okay?"
Lolita hesitated a little, upon hearing Kurah's declaration. "She's not angry with me? And how could she give up her life so freely for this godforsaken creature? What is happening? Kurah cannot die this way either."
Lolita watched her friend engage in the impossible, but Kurah wouldn't allow her to touch her. She was hell-bent on sacrificing what was left of her life for her brother.
A violent whirlwind suddenly blew in the direction of their gathering, jolting her from her thoughts. Lolita was not surprised to witness the occurrence. She knew that something strong must be holding Wolftown in place. She felt it the first time she stepped into the city. She couldn't help wondering if her mother felt it too.
"Did mother also feel this energy when she walked into Wolftown? Where could she be right now?" Lolita's anger which was dissipating at the sight of Kurah had suddenly flared up once again. At that moment, a voice could be heard from the whirlwind.
"It's been foretold… the Triton is supposed to end the war, not complicate it." Urika declared firmly. Then she waited for Lolita to process the information before she requested for her to calm down and reconsider.
Lolita only chuckled and countered, "I do not speak to shadows."
As soon as the words escaped her lips, the wind dissipated, and an extremely beautiful woman emerged from it. She had a kind of presence that screamed, 'stay away from me'. She seemed to be totally misplaced in this kind of world. Even her clothes had a strange vibe to them.
"I know you have a lot of questions, but you cannot watch him die. You will regret it later on, but it would all be too late then. You cannot do this alone, Surri. I can assure you of that." Urika stated.
"What did you just call me?" Lolita asked in alarm. However, Urika only responded matter-of-factly, "Surri. That's what your father named you" Lolita didn't like the posture of the woman. She seemed like a package of secrets, and she didn't wish to be around her for the next five seconds.
She stared at her amusingly and declared, "Let me worry about what I'll regret later. Well, over to you." She then walked away in the same direction she came from. She was sure that the new person could save Kurah, but Gavin was far from being helped. He could die a slow and painful death for all she cared.
"We both know that only your blood can save him now. You can't walk away from this, little one." Urika was getting desperate, and Lolita could detect the haste in her voice. Lolita countered by saying firmly, "I will not bleed for him."
"How about a covenant?" Urika asked expectantly. She then continued in desperation, when she noticed Lolita's steps had halted. "We are losing him."
A covenant means that Gavin's life and death would be in her hands, but is that what she truly wanted? If she is to choose between avenging her grandmother and controlling Gavin, she would so gladly choose the former. Lolita was however more confused at this point.
At this moment, Lolita didn't get any feeling of sudden fulfillment. If anything, she was rather feeling more dejected and empty.
"Everyone kept telling her that Gavin was innocent, even Venom took his side." Lolita didn't know what to believe anymore. Even she knew that she wasn't certain of what she was doing.
She just couldn't let Gavin walk away from it all. "What if…" Lolita began wondering about a thousand reasons why she couldn't see what everyone else sees. "Is the pain making me too paranoid?" She thought further in confusion.
Even her friend was willing to die for Gavin. She thought for a while, then decided to give the people a chance to tell their story. After all, she could still kill Gavin at any time.
Lolita made some enchantments and pricked herself with her arrow. When her blood came into contact with Gavin's forehead, she stood there and waited for his reaction. The drop of blood disappeared immediately, and Lolita could see how it traveled quickly from his head to his heart, then to his abdomen.
A short while later, Urika spoke when she noticed Gavin was out of danger, "I would meet the Triton when she chooses to grant me an audience. Nevertheless, this is my word of caution, please, do not leave Wolftown for now.
Lolita diverted her gaze from the strange woman who suddenly disappeared, and trailed her sight to Kurah.
She shook her head slightly and began attending to her friend's injuries.
Before the watchful gaze of everyone, Lolita disappeared into thin air, leaving the dumbfounded spectators in Gavin's chamber totally awed.
