Chapter 43 Incantations!

When Lolita saw Gavin for the first time in months, she expected to see something about him that spoke of his guilt or even a dark heart to show he was capable of what he did to her grandmother.
However, Lolita found no malice in his heart, no hidden evil, no darkness, not even an iota of guilt for a wrongful act committed. Yet, she couldn't allow her grandmother's killer to go scot-free, just because he had no malice in his heart. Lolita swore to make sure the guilty party pays, and that is exactly what she will do.
"You must be enjoying what's going on huh?" Lolita declared as she released another poisoned arrow at Gavin, who dodged it as effortlessly as usual. She expected to see nothing less than a scratch, but even that didn't happen. Gavin still shifted effortlessly from where he was, and she couldn't be more pissed than she already was.
She thought it was effortless, but only Gavin knew how focused he had to be, resulting in the use of much inner strength that he couldn't wait for everything to stop. He wasn't in the mood for all these, but it was clear that his opinion wasn't needed. The young girl was out for blood.
He could tell that Lolita wasn't a regular girl, and she may even have more tricks up her sleeves. If she continued the way she was going, he may need to attack her in a bid to contain her, but Gavin just couldn't get himself to imagine manhandling Lolita Clint.
It would be tantamount to hurting himself, and he just couldn't do it, considering the fact that she wouldn't go down without a fight. Not just a fight, but a fierce one at that.
The girl who saved his life must be saved by him, no matter what. She deserves nothing less than that.
"You damned snake.. Fine. Now try and stop me if you can." Lolita was unwilling to allow the snake to spoil her day. The damn animal had been sabotaging her since she arrived at the palace. It was reducing the effect of her aim and even redirecting it subtly.
She was now pissed at everyone, including the animal that kept hindering her moves, yet it remained coiled on her wrist.
Lolita wished for nothing more than to shake the damn distraction off. However, it only remained a wish, and nothing more than that. "Venom, I do not have all day to play with you here. If you have anything to say, now is the time."
He knew she wasn't talking to him, but Gavin could only ask in confusion, "Can we talk? I need to hear your reason for thinking so lowly of me. Why do you have so much anger toward me? Could it be because I wasn't there to convey my gratitude properly? I.."
"Oh please, shut it, would you? Did I just hear you speak of conveying your thanks properly? Really? How else do you think I deserve to be thanked? Or how else would you have shown me gratitude then?
Please spare me such talks. I am not a desperate housewife waiting for her shameless husband to return into her pitiful arms." Lolita spat at Gavin in anger.
She was not expecting him to even talk as if they were an old couple who had been separated due to a minor misunderstanding.
She had been with Kurah long enough to master how to talk dirty. This sentence of hers only made Gavin relent more in attacking her. She sounded so much like his sister spouting nonsense whenever she was pissed. Only that this time, he knew he had been wrongfully accused.
Gavin fixed a longing gaze on Lolita as he could tell that she was really pissed about the situation. He, however, couldn't tell why she seemed to hate him so much that she truly wanted him dead.
Venom could tell that Lolita was getting out of control.
Lolita gave a loud chuckle and then threw an arrow at the pillar behind which Gavin was hiding. Unlike the other arrows she had fired that were aimed at hitting Gavin, this one was purposely thrown to hit the wall.
Venom felt that something was wrong, and even Gavin could tell that the arrow was an intentional miss. However, he couldn't tell what Lolita was thinking.
Venom heard the weird incantation Lolita made before throwing the arrow and was totally awed by her ability to cast such a spell. He knew what was going to follow, hence, he was frightened about what the turn of events would be.
Something very bad was looming, and Venom was consumed by an ominous feeling he couldn't shed off. Where did she even learn that from?
Gavin suddenly smelled something extremely enticing. It was a smell he had never come across before, and couldn't describe what it was either. For a wolf like him, it was a great deal for him to not identify what the smell was.
He knew it was one of Lolita's tricks, but the brief moment he spent imagining what type of smell it was, caused him to be vulnerable to Lolita's incantations.
Before he could pinpoint what was happening, he already lost control of himself and Kuralis took over his body without being summoned. It was so forceful that even Gavin's wolf couldn't comprehend what was happening. It was moving against its will.
It was as if the wolf was trapped in a place it couldn't escape from. Try as it may, it couldn't save itself. The same feeling was what engulfed Gavin's mind also.

Kurah was being led to her brother's chamber by a displeased Drucilla. Two girls, one enthusiastic, though in pain, the other was looking extremely tense.
As the two walked ahead in slow steps, a guard followed them at the same slow pace, only leaving a few feet between them.
Every step Kurah took was a chore, but she was bent on seeing her brother and allaying his fears about the state of her health. She couldn't have her brother thinking and worrying non-stop about her, yet being unable to come and see her.
"Miss, how about we go back and return another time? You look so worn out already. Please listen to me, okay?
If anything happens to you, the queen would have my head, and you know it. Please listen to me." Drusilla pleaded unsuccessfully.
Even though she was distraught about Kurah's decision, the young lady knew her body better than Drucilla and could tell that she wasn't going to die by merely taking a short walk to her brother's chamber.
She then blurted out in jest, "Sounds nice. We are so close that it wouldn't be a bad idea to exit together, huh?"
Drucilla was taken aback by her words and quickly blurted out frustratedly, "Kurah…"
