CHAPTER 5
(Kade's P.O.V.)
I sat in my office deep in thoughts.
How had she gotten a mate almost as soon as he rejected her?
Was this the moon goddess's plan all along?
He had seen his mother and sister harassing her and like always,he had kept quiet about it.
After all,she had been so eager to get rejected by him.
Why of all people did it have to be Raven Sadler that Layra was mated to,the thought of them made him even more angry.
He couldn't get her out of his mind and was constantly thinking about her.
He had thought she was cute from the moment she arrived at the pack but his father had warned him to stay away from her that she was a rogue they were going to keep as a slave for the pack and so he had avoided her like the rest of the pack.
As the years passed,she had become more and more beautiful and the females had noticed it and tried to hurt her for it while the males had just been waiting for her to turn eighteen so that they could get her.
Even when she had been beaten,the pack had still denied her medication care while she was injured and Kade had stayed away from her.
He had disliked her because she was a rogue and had treated her terribly, unknown of course to him that she was actually an Alpha.
Now,Raven Sadler had come and swooped Layra away and his wolf seemed to hate him more since he saw that Layra had gotten another mate.
I was doomed to a joyless sex except I imagined Laura was the one under me but now,I could only imagine Raven touching her. I realized that I loved Layra and I had to find a way to get my mate back.
I had to talk to someone about this,so I quickly mind linked my dad and an Elder.
[Kade? what is it,son?]
[I need you and Elder Gray to come to my office, please].
[We will be right there].
I sayy back and waited while praying that there was indeed a way out of this mess for me to get my mate back.
"Son".
"Alpha", they both bowed.
"Please, come in", tell them.
They both and sit in the chairs opposite my desk and wait for me to start.
"What's going on,Kade?",My father asked.
"I found my mate",I announced.
"That's great, son!" he exclaimed.
"Who is it? Is it one of the girls from the visiting packs?", Sylvester asked excitedly.
"No".
"Then is it a member of our pack?"
"Kind of,"
"Kade,stop playing games and just tell us".
"It's Layra".
A dead silence took over the room.
I looked at both of them and they both stared right back at me,blankly.
"Dad, did you hear me?"
"I heard you, son",he replied and paused for a moment.
"Please tell me that this is some kind of sick joke you thought of?"
"It's not".
"Why on earth would the moon goddess pair our Alpha with a rogue?" Elder Gray asked.
"Son,tell me you already rejected her?"
"I did".
"Whew,okay then,crisis averted,"he said.
"No dad,the crisis was in no way averted".
"Dad, do you even know what Layra's full name is?"
"Layra?"
"Ehk! Wrong. Her full name is Layra Crest".
"Alpha, did you say her last name is Crest?",Elder Gray asked.
"I did. She used her full title to accept my rejection. Imagine my surprise when she said that she was an Alpha's daughter".
"My goddess,Layra is the daughter of Matthew Crest",Elder Gray exclaimed.
"That little b***h!" my father shouted.
"She's been keeping her identity a secret this whole time!"
"What did you expect?" I asked in a condescending tone.
"You orchestrated the slaughter of her entire pack when she was ten years old.Old enough to know what was happening,old enough to know her identity, and old enough to know to hide it".
I stood up from my chair and went to the couch.It was very hypocritical of me to talk to them this way but it was true.
After all, I had nothing to do with the slaughter of her family!
"Layra hid her pedigree on purpose, because of you, mom, Darla, and every other asshole in this pack that's f****d up her life, I lost out on the perfect mate!"
"Gray, can we fix this?" My dad suddenly asked.
I knew telling him that Layra was an Alpha by blood would get him to try and fix this.
We couldn't afford to miss out on the chance of having a Luna so powerful, we needed her for the future of the pack.
"Well, that all depends on if she has found a second chance mate or not".
"Our understanding is that she has. The Alpha of Gray Wolf",my father answered.
"Ah,Alpha Raven Sadler",He said rubbing his chin.
"Well, this may be a problem then".
"Why!?",we both ask.
"Alpha Ryan has been longing for a mate for as long as anyone can remember.He is 26 and has one of the largest packs in the central United States. If he claims Layra, and she accepts his claim,then it's too late".
"No!That can't happen,I want Laura! I love her!", I burst out without thinking, thoughts of her having already clouded my mind.
My outburst turned the atmosphere really cold and silent.
I had just admitted to loving the slave of the pack house.
"Son, what did you just say
(Ryan's P.O.V.)
I had Jacob guard the door to make sure that no one except Doctor Smith came in while I sat next to her bed and watched her sleep.
I didn't want to leave her alone because I didn't trust any member of this pack.
Darla, Sylvester's daughter had already tried to sneak in a couple of times.
Jacob had told me how she tried to assault her again after what she had done barely twenty four hours ago and it had taken all of my willpower to make sure I did not run out to attack her.
"Mmmm...",I heard Layra stir.
I moved closer to make sure she was not in any kind of pain and watched as she smacked her lips softly and opened her eyes.
"Hey, darling, did you sleep well?"I asked her. She gave me a small smile and nodded .
"How long have I been asleep?",She softly asked.
"About five hours",I told her.
"Oh wow, that's it?",She asked staring up at the ceiling.
"That was probably the best five hours of sleep I've ever had in my life".
"This bed is so comfortable,"She said patting the side of the clinic bed.
"You think that bed is comfortable?", I asked incredulously.
"It's better than the s**t I've been sleeping on for the last eight years".
I furrowed my brows at her comment .
"Layra, do you not have a bed?"
"I have a cot,"
"A what?"
"A cot," she wrinkled her nose. "Think of it as a small trampoline with no springs, and is supported by four plastic legs".
I still had no idea what she was talking about I took out my phone and Googled what a cot was .
When I saw what it was , I scowled at the image .
"This thing?",I asked and showed her my phone , and she nodded.I was about to say something when the doctor came in.
"Good afternoon, how are you feeling?",he asked her .
"Better now that I've gotten some real sleep".
"That's good to hear. I'm going to do a quick physical exam would you mind lifting your shirt?",She looked over at me and paused a moment.
I stood up and turned around,facing the wall . I could hear her lift her shirt, and I had to keep myself calm knowing that the doctor was staring at her bare skin.
It was his job,I kept telling myself, and Jack. "It's fine,it's fine,it's fine", I mutter silently to him.
"Ah".
I hear Layra's voice,I wanted to turn around to see what caused her harm,but before I could, the doctor spoke.
"Well,your rib area still seems to be a bit tender to the touch,but your facial wounds seem to have cleared up nicely.
Even though your immune system is weak, you have strong healing capabilities, especially now that you've gained your wolf".
"You can turn back around, Raven", Layra said to me.
I turn around and take my seat next to her bed again.
"Doctor, when can Layra be released?",I asked him.
"Oh, so your name is Layra,"he said with surprise.
I had forgotten that he doesn't know who she is.
"Well , I would like to keep you for one more day, but if you're feeling up to it, I can release you today,however, you would need to be on bed rest until your rib completely heals".
"I can do that,"Layra replied hastily.
"Absolutely no housework, Miss Layra, bed rest means bed rest. You can go outside for some sun because you still need the vitamin D, but nothing strenuous".
"Don't worry doctor, I will make sure she is comfortable",I tell him.
"Very well then, Alpha, if you will come with me, we can start work on her release papers".
"I will be right back, darling",I tell her and kiss the back of her hand.
As I'm walking out the door, I turn to Jacob.
"You watch her like a hawk. If even one strand of hair on her precious head falls off, you're going to run an extra twenty mile,everyday for the next calendar year".
"Yes, Alpha," he salutes and goes into the room,while I go with Dr Smith.
