Final Chapter: The Last Thing She Wanted
Queen’s Land. A place where time seemed to slow down, where the winds whispered secrets of old royalty, and where legacies were carved into the soil and stone. Once an untouched island, now a haven of elegance and serenity, it bore the name of JC’s lineage—a tribute to the empire the Queen family built. It was where JC and Keira chose to retreat, far from duty and danger, and closer to peace.
Two months had passed since the accident. JC's body had endured pain, his spirit tested to its limits, but he survived. And through it all, Keira was his constant. She was there during the fevers, the sleepless nights, the grueling therapy sessions. She never left his side assisting him from his ups and downs. And now, at last, they were free. Just the two of them. No secrets. No pretending.
Their cottage, perched on a gentle slope, offered an unspoiled view of the ocean. As the sun prepared to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of burnt orange and lavender, Keira sat on a cushioned bench on the terrace, a shawl wrapped around her shoulders. JC stood behind her, arms draped lovingly around her waist, his chin resting on her shoulder.
“This view never gets old,” Keira whispered.
JC smiled, his voice low and tender. “Neither do you.”
Keira chuckled softly, the kind of laugh that came from a full heart. They had talked about this trip endlessly during his recovery. A promise to escape, to rediscover each other, and to breathe again. And now, here they were.
The sun inched closer to the sea. JC gently took Keira’s right hand, her fingers still cold from the breeze. She looked at him curiously.
Without a word, he slipped a gold ring onto her finger.
Keira blinked. Her heart skipped. “JC...”
He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The simplicity of the moment spoke volumes. No grand speeches. Just intention. Just love.
Tears welled in Keira’s eyes. Her lips trembled, but she smiled and leaned back into his chest. She understood.
As darkness slowly replaced the sunset, stars began to flicker into view. The quietness was soon broken by a gentle boom—then a second.
Fireworks lit the sky.
Colors danced above the sea—pinks, purples, golds. Each burst formed perfect heart shapes, glowing against the canvas of night. Keira stood, captivated. The wind kissed her cheeks, carrying her hair like silk ribbons.
She turned to JC, stunned. “Did you do this?”
He didn’t answer.
Because the next moment stole her breath.
Lights began to appear along the hill, one by one, twinkling in sequence. Then, they shifted, arranged in delicate patterns.
WILL YOU MARRY ME?
Keira gasped, her hand over her heart. She turned—and there he was.
JC was on one knee, this time holding a different ring. A white gold band glimmering with tiny diamonds, shimmering like stardust.
His voice broke the silence. “Keira Allen, will you make me the happiest man alive?”
Her knees nearly buckled. She dropped beside him, cupping his face, tears freely falling.
“Yes,” she whispered. “Yes, JC. A thousand times, yes.”
The ring slid onto her finger like it had always belonged there. They kissed, their souls colliding in a perfect harmony of relief, joy, and passion.
The night carried them inside, where they made love as if time didn’t exist. Slow, deep, and reverent. Each movement a promise. Each touch a memory sealed.
Keira lay against his chest afterward, her fingers drawing idle shapes on his skin.
“You know,” she said, voice soft and sleepy, “I always wondered what the last thing on my list would be. What I’d still want, after all the pain, the secrets... the danger.”
JC looked down at her, brushing hair from her face.
“And now?”
She smiled.
“Now I know. It was you. It’s always been you.”
In the mind of Keira she knows that her last thing to do in life is to marry the man he love and this is it.
Outside, the sea whispered, the stars blinked, and Queen’s Land stood witness to a love that endured every trial every tears and every hardship they have fought together.
Keira Allen had lost everything once. Her name. Her family. Her peace. But in JC, she found it all again. And when morning came, she would wake up not as someone hiding in the shadows, but as someone loved. Truly, endlessly, completely.
Because sometimes, even destiny can be rewritten.
And love, the kind that survives everything, always finds its way home.Download Novelah App
