Chapter 24 Elijah Hugs Jennifer

Elijah put Jennifer gently to bed, and tucked her in, then went back to the desk to continue with his work. He has a few cards to check into, and he was going to check the phone number on the cards.
There were only five, and he put the numbers into a call search site on his laptop. All five brought up the same name, Williams.
He checked the cards. They were all slightly different. But not that he saw it, some had "Mr.Hugh." While others had "Liam Hugh."
It rang a bell in his mind, and he put a call across to Ivan.
"Hello."
"Yes sir?"
"The name of the contractor for the suburban area residential homes...what is his name again?"
Ivan took a second before he answered. "Mr. Williams hugh. He was brought back and is still in jail awaiting evidence."
"He is? Alright then. Thank you."
He hung up and looked at it. No matter how he tried to check, Mr. Williams hugh was definitely connected to glory bar and the missing girls. All evidence and even circumstances pointed to him.
He had built the house where the first body was, and deliberately made it inhabitable for prospective buyers. He lived very close to glory bar too, and his wife mysteriously died years ago. His number is on the cards handed out to those girls before they went missing.
He dropped the large notepad he had used to make a rough sketch, rubbing his sore eyes. He was finally getting somewhere and decided to get some sleep.
Tonight though, he felt a little somber leaving the room and Jennifer alone.
"Congratulations, Susan! For the first time in this house, we are getting a grand child. I have waited so long for my own direct grandchildren, but Susan, you have made me so happy. So so happy. Bless you child." Mrs. Morrison said, hugging Susan over and over again.
Marian sat silently on one corner of the dining table, catching the slight reference directed at her.
"Well, mother. I am happy too." Susan said. She was happy about the child and now she was sure she would be free from Nicholas even if it was temporarily.
"Congratulations, Susan." Jennifer said, hugging Susan. Despite the rude scowls Nicholas kept sending her way, she still decided to express her happiness towards Susan and the soon to be newest member of the family.
"Thank you, Jennifer. And yesterday too. I hope it will soon be your turn." She said with a small wink just as Elijah made his way down.
"Congrats, Susan." He said and without waiting for her to answer, he turned to Mrs. Morrison. "Mother, I have urgent work at the office, and I will be on my way now."
"Thank you," Susan said, and made her way to her seat.
Jennifer stood, watching Elijah as he waited for his mother's normal blessings. She didn't expect him to say a word to her, seeing as how he was in a hurry.
"Bless you, Elijah. You will come back home, won't you?"
He nodded. "If I have some unfinished work, I will comp lete it at home."
She smiled and nodded.
Elijah then turned to Jennifer, his eyes suddenly becoming tender. Mariah raised her eyes to him, eyes that were filled with tears fuelled by anger and jealousy.
"I am leaving now, Jennifer. Is there something you would like?"
Her eyes widened slightly. The question was different, his eyes different. She couldn't deny though, it made her heart flutter.
She shook her head as she looked at him, his eyes expectant. "Just come back safely."
She felt conscious of everyone as the dining room suddenly went silent, all eyes on them. Elijah was different. He was always kind, but he was different in a way she couldn't pimpoint, or was too naive to.
He smiled. "I will." Then suddenly drew her into a warm hug. It didn't last long, and he immediately walked out after releasing her, but she found herself red in the face, her body tingling all over.
"Somebody tell me I am not dreaming. That was Elijah, right? Our mayor? Please tell me that wasn't him or I'll freak out." Jason said dramatically bringing his mhands to his mouth.
Susan giggled, mirroring the happy smile on Mrs. Morrison's voice. This was the kind of marriage she had envisioned for her son, not the loveless one she had unknowingly trapped him in, together with Mriah.
"Of course, it's Elijah. Who else is her husband here?" Stephanie suddenly said, causing everyone to be even more surorised.
"Did you just defend her? I mean, you don't have any side comments waiting, right?" Susan asked, her eyes wide with exaggerated surprise.
"Why would I?" Stephanie asked defensively, before casting a small, almost apologetic glance towards Jennifer.
Jason smiled, shaking his head. "Just let her be, jennifer. She is just a cute panda."
They started to bicker back and forth regarding what he had called her, as the others finally steeled to it.
After managing to stomach just a little, Jennifer excused herself and made her way to her room, her heart beat going wild.
Elijah had hugged her on his own. Like a proper conventional husband would do. Like a man...who was in love with his wife.
She felt her heart skip at the word, her mouth going dry. She walked slowky to the mirror, watching her reflection.
Did he probably like her? Even with that mole? Did he just want to hug her?
This questions flooded her mind, so much that she didn't notice someone come into the room.
"Jennifer?"
She turned to the door and it was Stephanie.
"Uhm, Stephanie? Is there something you want?"
Stephanie shrugged. "I think...I was a little mistaken. I am not saying I don't think yiu are just here for the money...but, maybe you are just not all here for the money. If that even makes sense."
Jennifer smiled and held her hand. "Thank you."
Stephanie couldn't help but smile too, as she patted Jennifer's hand, then turned and left the room.
