“I’m going to go back to the apartment to get the rest of our things,” he said.
“I’ll stay here and make sure everything is put away,” I told him.
He nodded and kissed me goodbye. I watched him leave and then I started putting my clothes away. I went into the kitchen and started putting dishes in the cabinets. I was in the middle of putting away some cups when I heard a knock on the door.
I walked over to the door and opened it. Standing on the other side was Giorgio’s friend, the realtor.
“Hey,” I said, smiling.
“Hi,” she said. “Sorry to drop by unannounced. I just wanted to give you this.” She handed me an envelope.
“What’s this?” I asked, taking it from her.
“It’s just a note from Giorgio,” she said. She smiled at me again and then turned to leave.
I closed the door and opened the envelope. Inside was a note and a key.
Allie,
I’m sorry for leaving you. I know I said we would look for a place together but I wanted to surprise you. I hope you like it. I’ll see you at home soon.

I smiled and put the note down. I picked up the key and looked at it. It was a house key. I wondered where he had gotten it. I looked around the apartment and I didn’t see anything out of place. I put the key in my pocket and decided to wait for him to come back and explain where he got it.
I finished putting away the dishes and went back into the bedroom. I took out my laptop and started to look for jobs online. I wanted to find a job that I could do from home. I had been working as a receptionist but I didn’t enjoy it. I wanted to do something else. I applied to a few positions and then closed my laptop.
I heard a noise in the living room and went to investigate. I found Giorgio’s friend again. She was standing in the doorway of the living room, looking around.
“Hey,” she said when she saw me. “I just wanted to come in and say hi.”
I smiled at her. “Hi,” I said.
She walked over to me and hugged me. “You’re so tiny,” she said.
I smiled. I knew I was short but I didn’t think I was that small.
“I’m sorry,” she said, letting go of me. “I didn’t mean to offend you. You’re just so cute.”
I laughed. “It’s okay,” I said.
She smiled at me. “I’m glad you guys are back together. You two are perfect for each other.”
I smiled back at her. “Thanks,” I said. She gave me another hug and then she left.
I closed the door behind her and walked back into the kitchen. I opened the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. As I was drinking it, I heard another knock on the door. I went to answer it and found Giorgio standing outside.
“Hi,” he said, smiling at me.
“Hey,” I replied. “Are you done already?”
“Yes,” he answered. He walked inside and closed the door behind him. “I got everything we need. Do you want to come help me unload the car?”
“Sure,” I said and followed him out. We walked down the stairs to the parking lot and went to his car. He opened the trunk and we started taking out boxes and putting them in the apartment.
After we had everything in the apartment, Giorgio closed the trunk and walked over to me. “How was your day?” he asked.
“It was good,” I told him. “Your friend dropped by to give me the key.”
He smiled. “I told her to give it to you. I wanted it to be a surprise.”
I smiled back. “It was,” I said.
He kissed me on the lips and then pulled away. “Do you want to go out for dinner tonight?” he asked.
“Sure,” I agreed. “Where do you want to go?”
“I don’t know. Where do you like to eat?”
“I like sushi,” I said.
He smiled. “Me too,” he said. “Let me go change and we can go.”
I nodded and he walked into the bedroom to change his clothes. I went into the bathroom to get ready. I brushed my hair and put on some light makeup. I walked out of the bathroom and saw Giorgio waiting for me.
“You look beautiful,” he said, looking at me.
I blushed. “Thanks,” I replied.
He took my hand and led me out of the apartment. We walked to his car and got inside. He drove to a local sushi restaurant and we sat down at a table.
We ordered food and started to talk. Giorgio told me about his day at work and I told him about my day.
“So,” he said after we had finished eating. “Did you find a job yet?”
“Not yet,” I replied. “I’ve applied to a few but I haven’t heard anything back yet.”
“That’s okay,” he said. “You’ll find something eventually.”
I nodded. “I hope so,” I said.
We paid for our food and then left the restaurant. We got into the car and Giorgio started driving. We drove around for a while and then he pulled over to the side of the road.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
He looked at me and smiled. “I’m going to kiss you,” he said. Then he leaned over and pressed his lips against mine.
I kissed him back and then we pulled apart. He started the car and we continued driving.
