Giovannie's Point of View"‘Cause there’ll be no sunlight, if I lose you baby. There’ll be no clear skies, if I lose you baby. Just like the clouds, my eyes will do the same. If you walk away, every day it will rain. Rain, rain, rain…”I know I’ve failed Mavis as a boyfriend. Deeply. I made a terrible mistake—I left her for Ingrid, the same girl who blackmailed me. I benefited from that wrong decision, while Mavis was the one who suffered. I don’t know how things ended up like this. I don’t even understand why any of this is happening.Watching her earlier—how she fought back against Ingrid’s men—I didn’t know what to feel. I was slowly being consumed by guilt and anger, knowing I had a hand in all of this. At first, I didn’t realize how dangerous the Carters were. Or Albion. I thought Ingrid was just trying to break me and Mavis apart out of spite. I didn’t know there was something bigger at play. When I saw Mavis holding a gun at the party, I was stunned—and terrified. I instinctively stepped away from her, saying things I didn’t mean. But now, she’s proven just how fierce she is. A demon, maybe—but not in the evil sense. She fought like hell because she had something worth fighting for.I hate myself for standing there, frozen, while they fought for our lives. My chest aches. And as I watched her struggle to stay standing, bleeding and pale, I broke down in tears.I don’t even know who—or what—Mavis really is. But I know one thing: she’s not just some ordinary teenager. There’s something different about her and the others. I just don’t know what.I sobbed uncontrollably as I looked at Mavis, now lying on the pavement, unconscious. Her hand still pressed against her side, her skin ghostly pale. Beside her was Merville, in the same state, and now being cradled by my best friend who couldn’t stop crying. She left me.She died fighting for me.“No! No! Mavis! Merville!” a man’s voice cried out. He was in tears—it must’ve been their older brother, Mcphee.I could hear Yvo and Bolt sobbing, kneeling in front of Mavis. Bolt's older brother, Chord, was holding him up, crying too. Mavis’s classmates were sobbing. Luna, Devon—both crying. Denim was in shock.“G-Gio…” I collapsed into my sister’s arms, sobbing harder.“Damn it!” Mcphee shouted, before falling to his knees in grief.Yvo was trembling as he reached out to hold his sisters’ hands. “P-please… w-wake up,” he pleaded, barely able to speak.“V-Ville…” Kobe’s voice cracked as he sobbed, struggling to breathe. “Y-you promised me, right? That you’d come back? I waited, Merville… but w-why… why are you like this now? Y-you said you’d come back to me. Please… open your eyes.”Sirens wailed in the distance. Cars arrived, and even a helicopter hovered nearby. Suddenly, armed men in black stormed in.“Agent Yvo!” the one in front shouted. They moved quickly. Someone spoke into a walkie-talkie. A crying woman entered the scene—their mother. My own parents arrived shortly after, along with Grace, who held the dog Mavis and I raised together. Dean showed up in his pajamas, followed by the parents of Mavis’s classmates.“M-Ma…” Yvo managed to whisper, now being tended to by medics.Others were getting first aid too—including my sister. I had some injuries, but I refused treatment. I wanted to stay with them. Mavis and Merville were placed on stretchers and taken outside. I followed them. I wanted to see her… just one more time. Please. They were loaded into ambulances, machines and wires strapped to their bodies. They were trying to revive them.“Gio, my son!” my mom cried.I threw myself into her arms, crying harder. “M-Ma… s-she’s gone. Mavis left me… M-mama, I can’t do this…”“Shh,” she whispered, stroking my hair. “They’re trying to r-revive her. Just pray, son. Pray.”I heard Mavis’s mother sob loudly. A man in a business suit held her tightly—probably their father. He was crying too. Everything around me was blurry. I couldn’t think straight. When Yvo said he was heading to the hospital, I went with him. Thankfully, Mama allowed it.I expected to ride in an ambulance, but instead, Yvo brought me to Mavis’s car. “This will take you,” he said.Inside, I frowned. No steering wheel? Suddenly, the car lit up and spoke.“You are not Agent Key,” it said in a robotic voice, nearly making me bolt out. Luckily, Yvo was still outside.“Laven,” Yvo said. “This is Agent Yvo. I’m commanding you to bring this guy to the hospital where Mavis and Merville are confined.”“Where’s my Master, Agent Yvo?”Yvo glanced at me, then swallowed hard. “S-she’s… f-fighting for her l-life.”And just like that, the car sped off. It raced past traffic, overtaking even the ambulances. I clutched my head, dragging my hands down my face. Silent tears fell again. My chest felt heavy. I pulled out my phone and opened the gallery. There she was—Mavis, giggling as Frammers licked her cheek. Another photo of her dribbling a basketball in a hoodie. One with her dimples showing, another with her frowning. One where she dozed off in a swivel chair, arms crossed.A finger heart with furrowed brows. A clenched jaw, staring into the distance. One of her hugging me and kissing my cheek. A photo where we kissed. Another where she was brushing her teeth, newly awake. Why do I have to lose you, Mavis? Why?I didn’t know how long the ride was. I fell asleep crying. I woke up to a knock on the window—Yvo again. I blinked. We were already at the hospital. I quickly got out.We rushed into the emergency room. Kobe was there, slumped on the floor, devastated. Bolt and Yvo were already patched up. A nurse offered to treat me, but I refused.“They’re still trying to revive them. They’ve lost a lot of blood… but they’re still fighting.” Bolt’s voice was heavy.I wiped my face and paced back and forth, restless.“What the hell is happening?!” Kobe suddenly yelled, startling us all.He stood up, fury in his eyes as he glared at Yvo and Bolt. Denim tried to calm him down.“What the hell is going on between you and those damn Carters?! Why the gunfights?! Why do Mavis and Merville have to die?!”“Kobe, calm down,” Denim said. “We’re in a hospital—”“I don’t care, Denim! I just lost my girlfriend! And you’re telling me to calm down?! What the fuck?!”“Kobe—”“What, Yvo?! Are you not going to tell us what’s going on?! Why do you have guns?! Why did they call you ‘Agent’?! Are you an agent?!”I didn’t want to hear it. I really didn’t. I would lose my mind if I did.“Y-yes,” Yvo replied quietly, but loud enough for all of us.I expected it—but it still shook me. Kobe, Devon, and I all froze in disbelief. Luna and Denim remained unaffected. Did Denim already know?“I don’t believe you,” Kobe whispered, shaking his head. “You’re lying.”“You heard me, Kobe. I don’t lie,” Yvo replied.“And you never thought to tell us? Let us spiral, wondering why you were so damn good with guns? Like seasoned soldiers?” I snapped.“There was no reason to tell you—”“What’s the point of friendship if you all keep secrets from us?!” I shouted.“Friendship isn’t part of the mission. It doesn’t count. We’re family in the team. Not just friends,” Bolt said.“And we’re not family?” Devon asked softly.Bolt sighed. “Yes.”“Where’s my daughter?!”Dean suddenly ran toward us. The Summers family and Chord followed close behind.“Dad, I’m fine,” Devon said.“Not you. Where’s Mavis? Where’s my daughter?”We all froze.“Dad? What are you saying?” Denim asked.“My daughter. Your sister is alive, son. She’s alive.”Yvo’s mother began crying. We all looked at her, confused.“Mr. Demeri…” Mrs. Summers called through tears. “Did she already tell you about—”“Yes. She told me. She’s my daughter. She’s my daughter, Daron…” Dean cried.Denim and Devon looked stunned. Eyes wide, Devon covered her mouth, tears falling again.“B-but… how? I thought she—”“She didn’t die,” Mrs. Summers cut in. “The night of the accident, my husband and I happened to pass by. We found her barely breathing. We rushed her abroad for emergency surgery.”“She survived. But she was in a coma for five months, then had amnesia for nearly two years. She remembered everything while we were still in the States. And then our son Mcphee… he wanted us to adopt her. So we did.”“Then why didn’t she tell us she was our dead sister?” Denim asked.“It was part of her plan. Part of our mission. We didn’t want to interfere. But… things got messy,” Bolt added.“So you’re not really siblings?” I asked Yvo.He shook his head. “We’re all adopted. Except for Mcphee—he’s their real son. I was a beggar. Merville was an orphan.”I didn’t know how to react. So much truth, all at once. My mind couldn’t take it. Before I could gather my thoughts, a doctor stepped out. We all turned to him. He pulled down his face mask.“Doctor, how are the patients?” Mcphee asked.“The operation was a success. They both survived—but they’re still unconscious,” he said. “One will be moved to a private room. The other must remain in the ICU. Her body is too damaged and needs close monitoring.”He paused, his face grim."But there’s still a slight possibility her body might reject the procedure we performed—especially since one of her livers was struck by a bullet."He bowed his head slightly. "Excuse me."It was as if life had been breathed back into me with that news. She fought. She fought for her life. She’s back.©rrrrrylleism
