CHAPTER 18 NO ESCAPE

Henry, Natan, and Marlon followed the direction of the bird circling in the sky. Upon reaching the ground, they spotted a three-eyed toad—not yet fully grown—devouring a snake.
"Does that even count as prey?" Marlon muttered. "It's just a three-eyed tadpole."
"I'm not sure," Natan said, tilting his head.
"Of course it does," Henry replies in whispered "Teacher Vetron said we have to hunt every three-eyed toad, whether it's in its infancy or fully grown."
"I don't remember hearing that," Marlon said, confused.
"Come on, use common sense. He said to hunt them as long as they're three-eyed toads, right?" Henry affirmed.
"Who's going first?"
"Me," Natan volunteered.
"Henry I want to use your bow"
"Alright," Henry said, handing it over.
Natan took the bow, leveled his aim, and released the arrow with a sharp whooshing sound It missed the three-eyed tadpole but grazed its thigh.
"Agh, damn it!" Natan exclaimed as his shot missed the three-eyed tadpole.
"That was close," Henry said with a smirk. "You need more practice, chatter-mouth."
"He's getting away! We need to catch him," Marlon said, watching as the three-eyed toad leaped away.
"Don't worry," Henry reassured them. "My Mugger Hawk already marked it. The moment she pooped on that beast, it meant she left a scent mark. No matter where it goes, tracking it will be easy."
"Then let's chase it!" Natan said eagerly.
"This is getting exciting," Henry muttered, his grin widening. The thrill of the hunt, the way his prey struggled to escape his grasp—it only made him more excited.
The three of them sprinted after the toad, weaving through the dense, overgrown grass. While the Mugger hawk followed suit in the sky.
"Where is it?" Marlon asked, scanning the area as he took his spear behind and gripping it tightly
"It's still here," Henry said confidently. He whistled, and his Mugger Hawk swooped down from the sky, landing in a specific spot. As it touched the ground, leaves and dust scattered, revealing the three-eyed tadpole trembling in its hiding place.
"Hah! Don't even think about escaping," Henry sneered as he drew another arrow, taking aim at his prey.
However, Henry missed the target. Natan dashed toward the beast and swung his sword, but the three-eyed tadpole narrowly evaded the attack. Still, a deep wound had already begun to worsen.
The beast dashed away again, its blood dripping onto the ground.
"Hahaha!" Henry laughed. "Chase it again!"
Marlon and Natan exchanged uneasy glances. Something about Henry's excitement felt off, but they had no choice but to continue the hunt.
They chased the three-eyed pole as the Mugger Hawk swooped down repeatedly, harassing the beast. The toad tried desperately to defend itself, swiping at the bird with its limbs, but the hawk was too quick, its sharp beak striking again and again.
------------------
"You fucking shit, you've been harassing me for too long!" Fang Mu cursed under his breath, his frustration boiling over. The bird had been tormenting him for what felt like an eternity, forcing him to expend his energy just to defend himself.
With a powerful leap, Fang Mu launched himself into the air, facing the bird head-on as it swooped toward him.
"Die, shit " He opened his mouth wide, his tongue lashing out like a whip. The strike landed before the mugger hawk could reach him, sending the bird crashing to the ground. The hawk trembled, its wings flapping weakly as it struggled to recover.
"Baby!" Henry shouted, his voice filled with concern and panic He dashed forward toward the fallen mugger hawk, his heart pounding. The bird tried to stand, but its legs gave out, collapsing beneath it. It flapped its wings desperately, but it only managed to crash back down to the ground—paralized.
"Henry!" Natan called out as he saw what had happened.
"Move! Leave this to me—go after the beast!" Henry ordered.
Natan hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded in agreement before dashing off.
Henry knelt on the ground, carefully checking the bird's condition. Its breathing was ragged, and its movements were sluggish.
Henry sighed in relief, realizing the bird's condition wasn't severe. It would be fine after two to three days of rest. Gently, he lifted the bird and tucked it behind his back for protection.
"Don't worry, baby. I'll avenge you," Henry muttered under his breath as he resumed chasing the beast.
The Three eye pole had spent too much energy defending itself from the bird while trying to escape its pursuers. Now, its movements were slowing, its strength fading as exhaustion took over.
"The toad is getting tired!, it's getting tired" Natan said, gasping for air as he struggled to keep up.
"Marlon, you're up next. Show me what you've learned from Rommel," Natan said.
Marlon nodded at him with agreement.
Marlon took the lead, sprinting after the wounded beast. The three-eyed pole was incredibly fast, disappearing into the thick grass. Only the rustling of leaves and plants gave away its movement. Behind him, Natan and Henry followed closely, determined not to let the prey escape.
--------------------------------------
Fang Mu gasped for breath, his breaths ragged. Every time he tried to push his body forward, the wound on his thigh worsened, the pain growing unbearable.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" he cursed under his breath, desperately trying to shake off his relentless pursuers. He couldn't believe how fast these youths were—almost as quick as Usain Bolt in his previous world—and their stamina seemed endless.
A youth wielding a spear was right behind him. Every time he paused to leap, the gap between them shrank.
Suddenly, a sharp, crushing pain shot through his back, so heavy that it sent him flying. His body tumbled through the air before crashing to the ground, rolling uncontrollably.
Fang Mu gasped for air, unable to fight back due to exhaustion. His thigh was severely wounded. The spear plunged into his wounded thigh, embedding itself deeply. He couldn't move because the spear was pressed against him, preventing him from escaping.
.
"I-I c-caught him," Marlon said, gasping for air, while his spear was lodged into the body of the beast.
"Y-you're g-good," Natan said, kneeling on one knee and gasping for breath.
"What are you waiting for? Kill him," Nathan said, while gasping for air. "That beast really wore us out."
Marlon pulled a small dagger from his pocket. "Hold this," he said, handing Nathan the spear that was still embedded in the three-eyed toad.
As Marlon bent over and swung the dagger, Fang Mu smirked. He was determined to fight to the death, even if it meant dying in the process. He lashed out with his tongue, striking Marlon's arm as he knelt.
Marlon screamed in pain, dropping the dagger as he clutched his arm, which had been struck by the beast's tongue. He fell to the ground, rolling as if the searing pain was unbearable.
"You beast!" Nathan shouted, he kicked the beast in the mouth several times until small teeth broke free from its jaws, and green blood poured out.
Fang Mu looked at Nathan with a smirk. His eyes were yellow-red, and Nathan was a bit shocked. For the first time, he wasn't imagining it—the beast was smiling at him.
"You beast" Nathan shouted, kicking the beast in the face again.
"Die! Beast" Nathan shouted once more as he pulled out the spear embedded from Fang Mu thigh, a green blood splattered into the air, falling to the ground.
Fang Mu looked up, he saw the gleaming edge of the spear. At the same time, the bright blue sky with white clouds above him made him appreciate the world he lived in. He knew this would be the end, so one last time, he wanted to admire the beauty of the world. He was content even though he only live as a beast
"Wait!" a cold voice shouted at Nathan just before he could thrust the spear. He turned and saw Henry.
Henry strode over to them, gasping for air. Behind him, a Mugger Bird was tied to his back.
"Let it live. I'll take care the beast ," Henry said.
"Why?" Nayan asked, a bit confused.
"I said I'll take care of it," Henry replied firmly.
"Just look after Marlon," Henry ordered.
With no choice but to follow orders, Nathan immediately went to Marlon.
"You thought it would be easy to escape from me," Henry said as he leaned toward the beast. "I'll make sure you regret what you did."
Henry pulled out a rope and a sack, tying up the beast tightly. Fang Mu could do nothing but accept his fate. After dealing with the beast, Henry looked over at Nathan and Marlon.
"What happened?" Henry asked when he saw Nathan's anxious expression.
"Because of Marlon, look ,look," Nathan said
"Let me see," Henry said as he examined Marlon. His face was pale, and the marks from the beast's tongue were visible on his arm. He was shuddering.
"He's been poisoned."
"Quick, carry him. We need to get him to the Camp," Henry ordered.
Nathan nodded and lifted Marlon over his shoulder, and they quickly made their way along with Henry and the already imprisoned Fang Mu.
