CHAPTER 36 THE ROAR SHOOK THE NIGHT

Meanwhile, at the Medicine Hall, Lok lay on a bed while the nurses tended to his wounds. His body was covered in bruises, and his chest was swollen from the intense battle.
Moments later, a middle-aged man entered the room—it was Rommel.
"Lok, I heard you fought against the Antilla, and you were the one who led the charge to defeat it," Rommel said, his voice filled with both curiosity and admiration.
Lok chuckled, shaking his head slightly. "Not really. We all worked together to take it down."
Not long after, more visitors arrived—Simon, Rony, Antony, Henry, and Ferdinand.
"Oh, you’re here too, Rommel," Antony said as he entered.
Rommel nodded. "Yes, I came to check on Lok."
"The new hero of our village!" Simon declared with a grin.
"Lok, they say you fought bravely," Henry added, crossing his arms.
"The whole village is talking about how you were the reason the Antilla was defeated," Ferdinand said, smirking.
Lok chuckled again, shaking his head. "Not really..."
"Don’t deny it, Lok! You should be proud of what you did!" Simon insisted.
The people inside the tent nodded in agreement.
"The new hero of our village—Lok Mercicus!" Henry teased.
Lok felt embarrassed by the praise, but deep inside, a sense of pride swelled within him.
Simon nodded. "Because of your sudden fame, some villagers are even thinking of betrothing their daughters to you."
"That's right!"
"Yeah, some of them said they’d offer their daughters to you once you recover," Antony added with a smirk.
"So be careful—you might end up being chased by women," he teased.
The group erupted into laughter.
"Oh, come on, you guys," Lok said, shaking his head.
"But seriously, tell me, Lok—how did you do it?" Simon asked, curiosity in his voice.
"I don’t know," Lok admitted.
"You don’t know?" Rony echoed, confused.
"Yeah... The moment I saw our comrades dying, I felt this sudden surge of strength," Lok explained.
"I see. That must have been rage-lust," Rommel chimed in. "Some hunters say that when they get agitated or overwhelmed by strong emotions, rage-lust can temporarily boost their strength. But once it fades, they experience extreme fatigue."
The group nodded in agreement.
"What a pity... Nina, Eddie, and the other two died because of that beast," Rommel added, his tone heavy with sorrow.
A heavy silence fell over the group as they mourned their fallen comrades.
"Anyway, let’s not dwell in sadness for too long. Once you’ve healed, we’ll celebrate your victory!" Rony said, trying to lift the mood.
"That’s right!" Antony agreed.
"I'll go first," Simon said. "My wife might scold me if I stay out too long."
"Be careful, Simon! Loti might eat you alive," Antony teased.
"What are you talking about? My wife is kind!"
"You never know—she might beat you up," Rony added with a grin.
"That probably won't happen," Simon replied, though he didn't sound too sure.
The group laughed again.
"I'll be going now. Once you’ve healed, Lok, we’ll celebrate," Simon said.
Lok nodded at them.
After Simon left, Antony stretched and said, "Well, I should get going too."
"Me too," Rony added. "Lok, once you’re healed, we’ll have a proper celebration."
With that, they both departed, leaving only Rommel behind to keep Lok company a little longer.
**AT THE FOREST**
A few hours after Fang Mu left, the battlefield was no longer silent.
Dark shapes descended from the sky—carrion birds, their sharp eyes gleaming with hunger. From the depths of the forest, scavenger beasts crept closer, drawn by the overwhelming scent of blood.
The scene turned grim as the air filled with the squawks of the birds and the guttural growls of the beasts. They wasted no time. Each peck from the carrion birds tore chunks of flesh from the fallen Antilla, their beaks stained red. The scavenger beasts, larger and more ferocious, sank their fangs into the corpse, their powerful jaws ripping through muscle and bone.
An hour passed, and already half of the Antilla’s body had disappeared, devoured by the relentless feast. Blood soaked the ground, mixing with the torn remains of flesh and shattered bones.
The battle was over, but nature had its own way of cleaning up the aftermath.
Moments later, a massive shadow loomed over the carnage. With a single, powerful swing of its thick arm, it sent the scavenger beasts flying, their cries of pain echoing through the night. The impact was so forceful that bones cracked upon landing, and the unlucky ones were left writhing on the blood-soaked ground.
The carrion birds, startled by the sudden intrusion, let out panicked squawks and took to the sky, abandoning their feast.
The towering beast sniffed the remains of the Antilla corpse, nudging the torn flesh with its massive claws. Its glowing eyes gleamed with recognition, as if assessing whether the meal was worth its attention.
Then, without warning, a deep, guttural growl rumbled from its throat, rising into a deafening roar that shook the ground. The force of it sent nearby creatures scurrying for safety, their instincts screaming at them to flee.
The massive shadow lifted its head, its sharp eyes locking onto the distant sky. There—rising above the treetops—was a thin column of smoke.
A village.
Without hesitation, the beast’s muscles tensed, and in an instant, it dashed toward the source of the smoke. Each step sent tremors through the ground, crushing fallen branches and uprooting small trees in its path.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The night air grew heavy as the predator closed in on its next destination...
Fang Mu heard it—a deep, earth-shaking roar that sent a chill down his spine.
What the fuck was that?
The ground trembled beneath him, a low rumbling that made the trees quiver. Birds erupted from the canopy in a frantic swarm, their wings flapping wildly as they fled.
Something was coming.
Fang Mu’s heart pounded. Then, from the darkness, a massive shadow loomed over him.
His body froze.
Cold sweat drenched his back as fear gripped him like an iron vice. His three eyes widened, locking onto the monstrous figure before him.
A pair of glowing yellow eyes stared back, gleaming like twin suns in the abyss.
Fang Mu couldn’t breathe. His limbs felt like lead, his instincts screaming at him to run, but his body refused to move. The sheer presence of the beast was suffocating. His vision blurred at the edges—he was dangerously close to passing out.
But then…
The beast turned.
Without a sound, it faded into the darkness, vanishing like a phantom.
Fang Mu collapsed to the ground, gasping for air. His body trembled uncontrollably, his mind racing.
What the hell was that thing?
Even after it had gone, the lingering fear clung to him like a second skin. His instincts told him one thing—
He had just encountered something far beyond his current strength.
Fang Mu shuddered.
He had felt small before—back when he was just a man, facing powerful foes in his past life. But this… this was something else entirely.
In front of that beast, he wasn’t just small.
He was nothing.
Not an ant. No, an ant would at least be noticeable if it crawled on your skin.
He was less than that.
He was dust—something so insignificant that the beast hadn’t even spared him a second glance before leaving.
His pride burned at the thought, but he couldn’t deny it.
Right now, in this world, he was still weak.
"Damn, another problem for them," Fang Mu thought, his curiosity outweighing his caution.
The beast was massive, a creature that could crush men like insects. Yet, instead of hunting, it was moving with purpose—fleeing.
Fleeing from what?
Fang Mu’s three eyes gleamed in the darkness as he leaped from tree to tree, silently following the monster’s path. His powerful legs propelled him through the air, his webbed feet barely making a sound as he landed.
He wasn’t foolish enough to get too close, but he needed to see. Something capable of making that thing run wasn’t something he could ignore.
Moments later, the distant glow of fire flickered through the trees, and the scent of blood thickened in the air.
The hunters , The village?
Fang Mu crouched low, blending into the shadows, as he watched the scene unfold.
