Chapter 5 DOOMED FROM THE START

STELLA
I don’t know how long I had been asleep, but I suddenly awoke, only to find that I couldn’t move my body. It ached terribly, but I could sense someone staring at me. I opened my eyes, and there he was—Nullus. His eyes were hauntingly unique, one entirely white with just a faint trace of his eyeball. I stared into those terrifying eyes. They seemed... almost beautiful. Yet, he is a murderer. A mass murderer. I want to ask why he does what he does, but I can’t bring myself to do so.
The fact remains: many have died. And though I hate him, I can’t deny it—there’s something about him that fascinates me.
"You awake?"
"...Huh...?" I stared at him, my thoughts muddled. His wavy hair—such dreams of perfection. Slowly, my mind began to come back to me. I fully woke up, though I instinctively leaned back, only to hit the wall behind me. A sharp pain shot through my head, and I hissed in discomfort.
He crouched slightly before me, inspecting my face in a way that sent shivers down my spine. His head tilted to the side, his eyes enlarging with a disturbing intensity. What a creep!
"Good... you're still alive," he said, remaining in his unsettling posture. "You know what? I'm getting tired of you. Why don’t you just kill yourself?" He reached into the long black coat he wore and retrieved a knife.
He extended it toward me, his eyes locked on mine, unblinking. His expression twisted in madness.
"Oh, shut up," I snapped, tired and annoyed. I flashed him a weary grin. "Why don’t you do it then? Aren’t you supposed to be a murderer? That’s what you claimed back on that show when you barged in and stole the host's microphone."
He froze for a moment, his expression unreadable. He brushed his long, messy hair back, revealing a glimpse of his insanity. It reminded me of a character from a fantasy novel I once read—a psychotic murderer. And here he was, in real life, playing the same twisted role.
"After all these years..." he muttered irritably, his face shifting from psychotic to bored amusement. His eyes no longer held the same intensity—they were dull, almost disinterested.
He straightened and, before walking away, gave me a brief once-over. "Ask my sister to bring your clothes. I’ve got business to attend to."
Business?
My heart froze as his words sank in.
No. No. No. He can’t leave. He can’t!
"Wait, wait, wait!" I cried out, scrambling to follow him. I managed to reach his side and frantically blocked his path. "L-Lord Nullus—" or whatever the hell his name is!
"Don’t. Many have already died—innocents. Children!" I screamed, hysteria gripping my voice.
He tilted his head, a faint smile on his lips. "Yeah. I know. Who cares?"
"Who cares?!" I bellowed, eyes wide with fury. "You killed them! Innocent people! Children!"
He shrugged nonchalantly, pushing past me.
"Wait!" I grabbed his shoulder, forcing him to face me. "I’ll do whatever you want. Just—don’t leave. Don’t unleash that... creature, that squid with eyes! Don’t let it loose! I swear, I’ll do anything!"
Tears streamed down my face. I couldn’t let this happen. I had a family. A mother and siblings. I couldn’t abandon them like this—what if something happened to my mother? She could have a heart attack again. No, I can’t let him win.
"At what cost?" he asked, raising a brow. His voice was dry, uninterested. It was as though I bored him to tears.
"I—I can make you a playlist. You know? Spotify?"
He raised both brows now, his expression a mixture of disbelief and amusement.
He doesn’t like music. Great.
"Don’t waste my goddamn time—"
"I’ll tell stories!" I nearly begged him. "I don’t know if you’re just bored or what, but I can tell stories..."
He grew silent, his expression shifting.
"I’m a great storyteller. I’ve got plenty to share... anything."
He looked down at the ground, his features unreadable. I let go of his shoulder cautiously. There was a flicker of curiosity in his gaze—perhaps I had piqued his interest.
"You really... huh," he finally said. Our eyes locked. I could see the genuine curiosity there. But instead of engaging further, he shoved me aside.
"Get the fuck out of my way," he ordered, vanishing before my eyes. He simply disappeared!
Anxiety gripped me.
I’m doomed.
