Chapter 8: Teasing

When we went inside, I immediately stood beside my mom. My mom and Kaisel Mom talk about the past years that have happened in their lives.
I'm so happy to see my mom talking to her friends as if they've not seen them for a long time. While Kaisel, after greeting my mother, stepped up to the top, her mom stopped him.
"Come over here, Kaisel!" He didn't do anything if he didn't come and join us. I chuckle. Oh my gosh! I can't believe he's afraid of her mom.
I just find it cute. I really can't believe he's afraid of his mom. You know... I just can't believe he's so scared of his mother. It's just really cute.
"Hello! What's your name? " I asked the boy next to Kaisel. He did not answer my question. He even pretended he hadn't noticed me. So his mother immediately apologized to me and rebuked him, but it is really okay with me. It's not actually a big deal. I was already used to it for his brother.
"Kaisen!" She disobeyed her son and turned her attention to me and smiled at me.
"I'm really sorry for his actions. He doesn't really talk to people he doesn't know, so I'm the one who apologizes. Btw, you both already ate dinner?" Kaisel's mom asked.
My mom and I looked at each other, then we both nodded. But Kaisel Mom insisted we eat because she said she prepared a meal for us. She also said we should eat dinner first before we go to bed.
We don't have a choice and Kaisel Mom takes her time just preparing a meal for us. It's shameful to waste her time and effort, especially since she's my future mother-in-law. Kidding! Her son doesn't even like me, so how can that happen?
I was about to walk when I suddenly tripped on the foot of the glass table. Instead of asking me if I'm okay, his younger brother even teases me. They are the same as his brother, a heartless person!
"Dense." Kaisel's younger brother called out, but I didn't understand it. I don't know how still managed to smile at him and ask him what's he's talking about.
"What?" I asked.
"Totally stupid!" He mumbled, then walked into the kitchen. Ouch! I know it's true, but it still hurts me. Did I really act really stupid, lubberly, and empty-brained? Sorry, even I didn't like it. Even me, I don't like myself. But, I have to love myself because no one will do it for me.
"I'm so sorry again, dear. I'll talk to him to apologize to you. " Kaisel Mom asked and touched my shoulder to assure me, but she didn't have to do that.
"You didn't have to do it, Ma'am. Don't worry, I'm fine and it's not actually a big deal to me what he said. I'm already used to it. " I told her but she didn't agree with my answer.
She really insisted on talking to her young son to apologize to me. Our eyes met. He was the first to turn away, then followed his younger brother into the kitchen.
"Just call me Aunt Kailey. You're not strange to us after all. I've been your mom's best friend since we were in college. So just call me. Aunt okay? " I smiled and simply nodded. She's so kind. I wonder why his two sons didn't inherit that attitude from her.
We all went to the kitchen to eat our dinner. While we're eating, my mom and Kaisel Mom... I mean, Aunt Kailey are talking about kitchen stuff and some dishes that they like and know how to cook. I was jealous of them.
I don't have any knowledge about the things in the kitchen, and I don't know how to cook either, so it's hard to enter into their conversation. All I knew was to eat--- eat over and over, then wash the plate I used.
"You guys just felt at home, okay?" My mom and I nodded.
"Kailey, El, thank you so much for letting us stay in your house for the meantime while we're looking for our new house. We will never forget your kindness to us. " My mom said to them
"You guys are not different from us after all." And this is the only thing that I can do for my friend Armen, who has passed away already. You guys are so welcome to our house." Uncle El remarks that made me smile widened. We thanked them for their kindness. Why are they their sons if they aren't like them?
After we eat dinner, I help Aunt Kailey wash the dishes. At first, Kaisel mum didn't want me to help. She said I should just rest because I was tired from the trip and we were their visitors, but I said it was okay. This is also the only thing I can help with.
"You and Kaisel are from the same school, right? " She started asking a question while washing the dishes with a sponge and soap. I nodded.
"How is he at school? Maybe he doesn't have friends and people don't like him because of his behavior right?" She passed the plate on to me after she washed it. I got it, and started wiping it with a clean, dry cloth. If she only knew what was going on at school.
She will know that I am the one she's referring to. I'm the one who doesn't like it and has almost no friends. If Celestine hadn't approached me, I wouldn't have been a friend.
By the way, where is that woman? I haven't seen her since the last time. I'll just talk to her on Monday. But Kaisel is like me too. In the four years I have known him, I have noticed that he doesn't talk to people often.
And he always has only his headphones with him and his books. I wonder if he was bored with his life.
"Not sure, Auntie Kailey. We're not close that much." I replied. I noticed the curve of disappointment on her face. Sorry, Aunt, but your son is so heartless to me! I wish I could tell you that. That's why Aunt Kailey thanked me and told me to go upstairs to my room to fix my things and that I could rest eventually.
When I went inside, I was immediately impressed and made myself smile. This is very beautiful. This is actually big for me, but it's also my dream room. I don't know how to thank Kaisel mum for this. I lay down on the bed and it was so soft. It's much dimmer than my previous bed.
I still wanted to lay down there because it was so soft, but I still had to fix my things. My mother entered my room in the middle of fixing my things. I smiled broadly at him.
"Are you okay here?"
"Super, mum!" I smiled again. She sat beside me and softly touched my hair.
"When you're not comfortable here, just tell me right away, okay?" I nodded.
"Don't worry mum, I'll tell you right away!" She hugged me. I'm really lucky that she became my mum, but she just didn't lucky because I am the one become to her daughter.
"I'll go now. Good night!" She kisses my forehead before we go out to my room. I smiled bitterly. I'm so sorry, Mom! After a minute, Kaisel mom entered my room.
"Did you like your room? If you're not comfortable here, we still have one vacant room. You can stay there but only in my daughter's room. " I shook my head. Aunt Kailey's is really different to her two sons'. She's not just pretty, she's also kind and loving.
"No need, Aunt Kailey, I'm fine here. Thank you so much for asking! " She smiled at me and came over to me. I think that even now we have met, we already know each other that much.
"Btw, I brought you milk." She said and placed the milk she had brought for me on the bedside table. I thanked her for doing that. Kaisel's parents are really generous and kind. They are the only two siblings who really don't. Joking!
"Can I sit beside you? Dear." I frowned at her question. Why she still asking my permission? This is their house, of course she can and she doesn't have to ask me.
"Of course, Aunt!" She watched me as deep as a well, so I couldn’t help but wonder. Do I have dirt on my face? I want to ask her, but she might be offended by my question.
"Uh, there's something on my face?" I asked politely, getting her attention. I was shocked at her answer.
"Yeah, beauty!" She mumbled. I suddenly covered my mouth in shock at what Aunt Kailey replied. I'm not dreaming right now. And then what I heard is correct, isn't it? Argh! Can someone tell me if it is correct? Because I felt really deaf from the shock of what Aunt Kailey said.
"Au ... Aunt ... Aunt ... Can you repeat it again? I really didn't get it. " I really can't get what she said into my brain. It's not obvious, duh! Like what his son told me. I have an empty brain, so that's probably the reason why it is really hard to get that into my brain.
She really repeated what she said. Oh-uh no! That means... she can approve of me to his son? If that happens, only his son's approval is missing. Kidding! Of course, it will never happen. So nevermind!
"Aunt, you must be kidding!" She shook her head.
"It was true, honey! You really have something on your face. And that was a beauty." Oh, thank you so much, Aunt Kailey!
"I miss my daughter!" I looked at her eyes while she was curling my hair using her fingers. Did she also have a daughter? I thought she just had two children, but I guess I was wrong. Going back to her, I feel her sadness while curling my hair. I wondered where her daughter is now.
"Don't you mind, Aunt, if I ask where she is right now?" I am still hesitant to say that. "She's in the UK to study for her master's degree in medicine. Because she wanted to be a good doctor like her father someday. And she also wants to be independent. We let her do as she pleased. " She paused, smiled bitterly, and continued again.
"It's been a year since she flew there. Until now, we still haven't heard from her since we talked to her 3 months ago. I hope she's okay! " When I heard that, I just suddenly hugged her tightly. I feel how much she misses her daughter because I miss my father the same way.
"Don't worry, Aunt. I know she's okay there. I can be your daughter until she's not yet here, so don't be sad anymore, Aunt! I'm sad when you Dad." She slipped out of my embrace and looked at me seriously. At first I was nervous because I might have said the wrong thing, but that disappeared when she suddenly smiled at me.
"Thank you so much, dear. But I don't want you to be my daughter! " I was hurt by what she said. I thought what I said was okay because she smiled, but it didn't seem to be.
"I'm so sorry, I guess I---" she cut me off.
"No, It's okay." I smiled broadly at what I heard from her.
"I just don't want you to be my daughter because I want you to be my daughter-in-law!" She smiled at me and widened.
"Aunt!" I pretended I feel shyly. Aunt, don't be like that to me! We just saw and met each other earlier. You give me so much hope for your son.
"I will go now, my future daughter-in-law. Thank you so much for your offer. I'll not disturb you anymore. Don't forget to drink your milk, okay? " She reminded me while she chuckled. But I was preoccupied with what she said.
"I'll go now!" She tapped my thigh lightly, which brought me back to reality. I smiled at her.
"Thank you also, Aunt ... my future mother-in-law!" Maybe I just slowed down the last thing she said. Maybe Aunt, will thought I was too interested in what she said earlier. And it's a good thing she also came out of my room when I said that.
I was about to jump because of the tremor, but suddenly someone appeared behind me.
"You look happy. Something happen? " What did he care? And what's he doing in my room? I did not answer his question. It shouldn't be.
"The room is too big for you huh?" I don't if it's compliment or complain. What does he want to convey? Earlier, I was fascinated by what his
mother was saying, but now I'm taking it back.
"Did you just come here for teasing? You can come out now, because you have already won. " I was really pissed off. But he just chuckled at what I said.
"Yeah, I mean, I'm just here to get some books for my younger brother, who forgot to bring them with him." He went to the study table inside my room, then opened the first row of the cabinet and got the books he was talking about, then he showed them to me.
"Because this was his room before but not now anymore, 'cause he's in my room now to share with me because someone is using his room." He paused.
"The reason why my room is crowded right now." Somehow, I felt guilty. Because I was the reason why his room was crowded. I don't know where I got my guts to tell him this. Instead, I apologized to him because that still has to happen.
"Why didn't you know you were talkative sometimes?" I uttered.
"Tsk!" that was his only thing he said before he left out on I shrugged. I hate you for pissing me off my a wonderful night, Mr. Heartless! I hate you so much! I regret, that I liked you!
