Chapter 12: Extreme Happiness.

As soon as the call disconnected, I let out a primal scream, unleashing all the pent-up emotions that had been building inside me. The sound echoed through my room, reverberating off the walls, and piercing the silence of the night. I forgot that it was the middle of the night, forgot that I had neighbors, forgot everything except the overwhelming joy that threatened to consume me. It was as if the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders, and I was finally free to breathe again.
Emily and Rachel burst into my room, their faces etched with concern and confusion. "Emma, what's wrong?" Emily asked, rushing to my side. Rachel followed closely behind, her eyes scanning the room for any signs of trouble. They were both dressed in their pajamas, their hair disheveled from sleep, but their expressions were alert and worried. I realized my mistake and clamped my hand over my mouth, giggling uncontrollably.
"I'm so sorry," I apologized, trying to compose myself. "I just got some amazing news." Emily and Rachel exchanged puzzled glances, their faces relaxing as they realized I wasn't in distress. "What is it?" Emily asked, curiosity getting the better of her. Rachel nodded in agreement, her eyes sparkling with interest.
I took a deep breath, savoring the moment. "Elijah is staying," I announced, my voice barely above a whisper. The words hung in the air, and for a moment, there was silence. Then, Emily and Rachel's faces erupted into huge smiles.
"We're so happy for you!" Emily squealed, launching herself at me for a hug. Rachel joined in, and we stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, basking in the joy of the moment. I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes as I realized how much my friends cared for me.
As we pulled back, Rachel asked, "What happened?" I nodded, taking a deep breath. "We just talked, and he's willing to stay in town for us," I revealed. Emily let out a whoop of excitement, while Rachel bounced up and down, her eyes shining with happiness.
The three of us danced around the room, our laughter and excitement filling the night air. We twirled and spun, our feet bare, our hearts full. It was a moment of pure joy, unadulterated and free.
As we calmed down, Emily asked, "Tell us everything." I grinned, settling onto the bed with my friends. "From the beginning," Rachel added, snuggling under the blankets. I smiled, launching into the story of our conversation.
From Elijah's apology to his declaration of love, I recounted every word, every pause, every emotion. Emily and Rachel listened, entranced, their faces aglow with happiness. When I finished, Rachel sighed.
"That's so romantic," she said, her voice dreamy. Emily nodded, her eyes sparkling. "You two are meant to be." I smiled, feeling grateful for my friends, for Elijah, and for our love.
We talked long into the night, basking in the glow of our happiness. The darkness outside receded, replaced by the warmth and light of our friendship and love.
As we sat around the kitchen table, enjoying our breakfast, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. The Friday night party had been planned for the week, and I knew Emily and Rachel were looking forward to it. We had all been counting down the days until Friday, eager to let loose and have some fun. But with my new development with Elijah, I wasn't sure I wanted to go anymore. Things had changed dramatically since our conversation last night, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that my priorities had shifted.
"Guys, can we talk?" I asked, putting down my fork and taking a deep breath. Emily and Rachel looked at me curiously, their eyes sparkling with interest. They knew something was up, and they were eager to find out what it was. "What's up?" Emily asked, her voice filled with concern. Rachel leaned in, her elbows on the table, her eyes fixed intently on me.
"I've been thinking, and I don't think I'll be able to make it to the party tonight," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Rachel's eyebrows rose in surprise, and Emily's face fell. They had been looking forward to this night for weeks, and now I was backing out. "What? Why not?" Rachel asked, her tone filled with disappointment. I took another deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts.
"It's just that things have changed with Elijah and me," I explained. "We talked last night, and...well, let's just say it's getting serious." Emily's eyes sparkled with excitement, and Rachel grinned, her face lighting up with understanding. "Oh, Emma! That's amazing!" Emily exclaimed. Rachel nodded in agreement, her eyes shining with happiness. "Congratulations!" she said, reaching out to squeeze my hand.
"I know this is last-minute, but I want to spend time with Elijah tonight," I continued. "I want to bring him over here and have a quiet night in with him." Emily and Rachel exchanged glances, their faces filled with understanding. They knew how much this meant to me, and they were willing to support me every step of the way. "You guys go ahead and go to the party without me," I said, trying to sound convincing. "I'll be fine, really."
Rachel nodded, her expression sympathetic. "We totally understand," Emily said. "You need this time with Elijah." They both smiled, their faces filled with happiness for me. "We'll have fun, but we'll miss you," Rachel said. I nodded, feeling grateful for my friends' understanding. "Don't worry, I'll make it up to you soon," I promised.
As we finished breakfast, Emily suggested, "We should plan a double date soon!" Rachel's eyes lit up, and she clapped her hands together. "That sounds like fun!" she exclaimed. I grinned, feeling excited at the prospect. "I'll talk to Elijah about it," I said. With our plans settled, I texted Elijah. "Hey, want to come over tonight?" His response came quickly. "Can't wait." My heart skipped a beat. Tonight was going to be special.
