Tiktik-The End
Days passed quietly in Sitio Pula after that terrible night, and Raul and Rosa dared to believe that they were finally safe. Since the standoff with the creature outside their children’s window, there had been no more “tik-tik-tik” sounds, no scratching at the door, and no strange shadows lurking in the darkness. The villagers offered encouraging words and blessings, and Nanay Mila assured them that the Tiktik had been warded off, perhaps even driven away for good.
Raul and Rosa took these comforts to heart. They resumed their routines, tending to their garden, visiting the marketplace, and even allowing their children to play outside in the daylight once again. But a tension lingered, a shadow that never quite lifted. Despite the calm, a lingering feeling haunted them both, as if the quiet was just the calm before another storm.
One day, as Raul was out repairing the fence around their house, a familiar figure approached him—Arman, the same strange man they had seen before, the one who had watched their home with that unnerving, silent stare. But today, Arman wore a friendly smile, and his demeanor seemed open, even warm. The sharp, unsettling presence he once carried was gone.
"Good morning, Raul!" Arman called out, raising a hand in greeting.
Raul felt a strange mix of emotions. He hadn’t seen Arman in weeks, not since that haunting night. But now, here he was, acting as though everything was perfectly normal.
“Hello, Arman,” Raul replied cautiously, wiping his hands and forcing a polite smile. “It’s good to see you again. I, uh, noticed you haven’t been around lately.”
Arman’s smile widened, though there was something strange in his eyes—something distant, as though he were trying to conceal some dark secret. “Yes, I had some… personal matters to attend to. But I’m back now, and it’s good to see you’re doing well.”
Raul nodded, though an uneasy feeling twisted in his stomach. He thought of the strange looks Arman had given their home, the night sounds, and the Tiktik’s relentless pursuit. But he kept his thoughts to himself, not wanting to appear rude or overly suspicious.
They exchanged a few more words, and just as Arman was about to leave, he paused, turning back to Raul with a thoughtful expression. “You know, Raul, strange things happen in these parts. Creatures that lurk in the night, shadows that take on… familiar shapes.”
Raul stiffened, feeling a chill race down his spine. “What do you mean?”
Arman’s gaze hardened, a strange gleam flashing in his eyes. “Not everything is as it seems. Sometimes, the very people we trust have secrets darker than any creature that haunts the night.”
Raul opened his mouth to respond, but Arman had already turned and was walking away, disappearing into the trees without another word.
That night, Raul and Rosa couldn’t sleep. Arman’s words haunted them, filling their minds with unsettling possibilities. Rosa clutched Raul’s hand tightly, whispering her fears into the darkness.
“What if he’s… involved somehow?” Rosa asked, her voice trembling. “What if he knows something about the Tiktik?”
Raul held her close, feeling her heartbeat pounding against his chest. “I don’t know, but… we can’t ignore the signs. We have to find out the truth.”
The next morning, Raul decided to confront Nanay Mila, hoping she could shed light on the mystery. He found her in her small hut, brewing herbs and muttering ancient prayers under her breath.
“Nay Mila,” Raul began, his voice low and urgent. “I need to know about Arman. Do you know anything about him? Anything… strange?”
Nanay Mila’s face darkened, and she gave Raul a knowing look. “Ah, Arman,” she murmured, her voice laced with caution. “He is… not what he seems. He carries a darkness with him, a shadow that clings to his soul. He has always been an outcast, a man of few words, but there are whispers… whispers that he harbors a secret.”
Raul felt a chill run through him as her words sank in. “Is he… could he be connected to the Tiktik?”
Nanay Mila’s gaze sharpened, her eyes glinting with a grim understanding. “The Tiktik is a creature that hides in human skin by day, only revealing its true form under the cloak of night. It craves life, the essence of the living, and it will stop at nothing to satisfy its hunger.”
Raul’s blood ran cold as he pieced together the horrifying truth. Could Arman… could he be the Tiktik?
That evening, Raul and Rosa prepared for whatever might come. They fortified their home, securing every window and door, hanging herbs, and sprinkling blessed salt along the perimeter. They kept their children close, praying for the strength to face whatever awaited them in the darkness.
The night fell, thick and suffocating, wrapping the village in a shroud of darkness. The silence was unnerving, a stillness that seemed to pulse with anticipation. Hours passed, and just when Raul and Rosa began to think they might be safe, a soft, rhythmic tapping echoed through the house.
Tik-tik-tik.
The sound was unmistakable, chilling them to their core. But this time, Raul was prepared. He tightened his grip on the blessed blade Nanay Mila had given him, his heart pounding as he listened to the creature draw closer.
Tik-tik-tik.
And then, a shadow appeared outside the window, shifting and twisting until it took on a familiar shape. It was Arman, his face pale and gaunt, his eyes gleaming with an unnatural hunger.
Raul and Rosa watched in horror as Arman’s face contorted, his skin rippling as the human guise faded, revealing a grotesque, twisted creature beneath. His mouth stretched into a gaping maw, his eyes glowing with a blood-red light as he pressed his clawed hands against the glass.
The Tiktik.
Raul and Rosa braced themselves as the creature let out a low, menacing growl, its eyes fixed on them with deadly intent. But they stood their ground, refusing to let fear consume them.
The Tiktik’s claws scraped against the window, its mouth opening to reveal rows of razor-sharp teeth. It let out a bone-chilling shriek, filling the air with a foul, metallic scent.
Raul took a step forward, raising the blessed blade as he locked eyes with the creature. “You’re not welcome here,” he said, his voice steady and unwavering. “This is our home, and we will protect it with our lives.”
The Tiktik let out a furious roar, its body tensing as it prepared to strike. But Raul was faster, lunging forward with the blade and driving it into the creature’s chest. The Tiktik let out a scream of agony, its body convulsing as the blessed blade burned into its flesh.
The creature staggered back, its form shifting and twisting as it struggled to maintain its hold on reality. For a moment, it flickered between Arman’s face and the grotesque visage of the Tiktik, its eyes filled with hatred and pain.
But as the blade sank deeper, the Tiktik let out a final, guttural howl, its body dissolving into a cloud of darkness that dissipated into the night. And then, silence.
Raul and Rosa stood in stunned silence, their hearts racing as they took in the empty room. The Tiktik was gone, defeated at last. The nightmare that had haunted them for so long had finally come to an end.
In the days that followed, a sense of peace settled over Sitio Pula. The villagers rejoiced, celebrating the end of the Tiktik’s reign of terror. But Raul and Rosa knew that they had paid a heavy price for their victory—a reminder of the darkness that lurked beneath the surface, waiting to strike.
And though they never saw Arman again, his shadow lingered in their memories, a haunting reminder of the creature that had once hidden among them, disguised as a friend.
They had faced the darkness and emerged stronger, but they knew that the Tiktik would forever be a part of their story, a ghost that would haunt them long after the final battle had been fought.
The peace in Sitio Pula was hard-won, and Raul and Rosa knew that they would carry the memory of the Tiktik with them for the rest of their lives—a reminder of the darkness that could hide in the hearts of men, and the strength they had found within themselves to fight it.Download Novelah App
