"Good morning students, I'm Dra. Uy your anatomy professor" Our first professor for today introduced herself. Now is our first day of college and I'm beyond happy to familiarize this new city first before the start of my college journey. I can say that my first two weeks here was amazing, I met a lot of lovely people and I got to settle everything first before I stress myself out in this course.
The day went smoothly, I only had 3 subjects for today, so I still have a plenty of time to read and do some advanced reading for the next day. But first, before heading back to my apartment, I got myself some flowers because the one's I bought last week had begun to wither.
"Hi, I'd like to buy these two please" I said to catch the lady's attention. After buying some flowers I headed straight back into my unit to cook for lunch and so that I can start reading early.
The first month of college was pretty tough but good thing I know how to manage my time. To be honest, the first week made me cry due to pressure and it was hard for me to manage my time during that time.
I made a friend, Chiara from Microbiology she's the sweetest, she's from Florida and also came here to study nursing. I'm not really that friendly type of person because I rather read books than talk to anyone, but we became close since we're seatmate and she did the first move, so she basically adopted me.
"Raya, are you done on our essay yet?" Chia asked me, it's the essay Dra. Uy told us to submit tomorrow. "Yep, I finished it last night" I answered, I don't have anything to do last night, I just revised my notes so I decided I might as well finish my essay. "Great, I thought you forgot" she then said, I just giggled and continues reading our Microbiology book.
Life's great here, Even tho I'm away from my family, at least I'm learning how to be independent.
"Hi, Is it possible for me to apply for a job?" I asked the Dean. I'm currently here in the Dean's office, I don't want to depend my allowance to my parents anymore, I'm old enough to earn money. "In campus job is I assume you're asking?" The Dean asked me while looking straight to my eyes, it makes me nervous. "Yes ma'am" I answered while she's going through my papers. It took a few moments for her to say something.
"Library assistant is available right now, if that's ok with you?" she then asked again, I smiled and nodded, "I was actually hoping for that one" I smiled and she smiled back at me. "Alright, give this to the librarian and she'll know what to do" she then gave me an envelope after writing something on it. "Thank you so much" I said before standing to leave. "Good luck" I smiled at her before closing the door.
I went ti the library to give the envelope to the Librarian. "Hi miss, Dean wants me to give this to you" I said as I hand her the envelope. She accepted it and looked at me for a second. "You want to work?" she asked and I nodded while smiling at her. "Salary is not big honey" she reminds me. "It's fine for me, I promise I just want to be able to afford food to start my financial independency" I answered her. "Alright, when will you start?" she asked, looking at me "as soon as possible" I replied with determination, she smiled at me before saying "you can start tomorrow," I smiled at her and thanked her before she let me go home for today.
The next day, I woke up earlier than usual to help at the library and ask the Librarian what my roles are. "Good morning miss Lan," I greeted the librarian "Good morning, Raya" She greeted back.
For the past 20 minutes, we've been walking around the library, she's telling me what will be my job is, and my schedule is pretty nice since she'll only be needing me during lunch break, because that's when students spend time here to study. My work is also pretty simple, I only have to make sure that the books are on their assigned shelf and they should be clean.
After that, I attended my morning class, I only have two classes today for the morning, and one for the afternoon, meaning I have a lot of time working at the library. My sallary is enough for me to afford my foods, so it's a win win since I also love being at the library.
After my last class for the morning, I saw Chiara running through the corridor. "Raya, are you free? let's study together" She asked, "I'm just about to head at the library, I got a job there" I answered, her eyes widened a bit, surprised by my news because I didn't tell her about it, "you didn't tell me that, anyway, let's go there then after your work you can sit with me then study" she said dragging me with her.
It's really nice to have a friend, I thought at first I wouldn't be able to make friends but here we are.
