Chapter 10 - Bonds
As Cheska stood before Angelo's grave, a wave of emotion washed over her, mingling with the memories of their time together and the ache of his absence. She took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts before speaking aloud to the silent headstone.
Cheska: (softly) Hey, Angelo... I hope you're doing okay up there. I just wanted to tell you something... I saw your son today.
As she spoke, Cheska's mind drifted back to a moment from their past, a memory that now held new significance in light of her encounter with Constantine.
Flashback:
Angelo had shown Cheska a faded photograph, cradling it gently in his hands as he spoke with pride and affection.
Angelo: (smiling) This is my son, Constantine. He's just a few months old here. Can you believe he's going to be a big brother soon?
Cheska had marveled at the image of the tiny baby, his features already hinting at the strong will and determination that would come to define him.
Cheska: (awed) He's so adorable, Angelo. And you said he'll be my junior by a year, right?
Angelo: (nodding) That's right. You'll be his senior by just a year. I hope you two become good friends, just like family.
Present:
Cheska blinked back tears as she recalled Angelo's words, the weight of their significance hitting her with renewed force. She took a moment to compose herself before continuing to speak to her dear friend's resting place.
Cheska: (voice trembling) I never got the chance to meet him back then, Angelo... but today, I saw him. Constantine. He's grown up now, and he's... he's brave, just like you said he would be. I wish you were here to see him too.
As she shared her thoughts and feelings with Angelo's memory, Cheska found solace in the quiet of the graveyard, knowing that even in death, her mentor and friend would always be watching over her. And as she turned to leave, she carried with her a renewed sense of purpose, determined to honor Angelo's legacy and forge her own path forward, with Constantine by her side.
As Cheska stepped through the front door of her home, she was met by the concerned expressions of Joshua and Andrea, who had been waiting for her return.
Joshua: (worriedly) Cheska, you're finally home. We were starting to get concerned. What took you so long?
Cheska hesitated for a moment, her mind still reeling from her visit to Angelo's grave, before summoning the strength to speak.
Cheska: (softly) I... I went to visit Angelo.
Andrea's eyes softened with understanding, while Joshua's expression grew somber as he processed Cheska's words.
Andrea: (placing a comforting hand on Cheska's shoulder) Oh, sweetheart. How are you feeling?
Cheska: (sighing) It was... it was difficult, but also comforting in a way. I needed to talk to him.
Joshua: (nodding) We understand, Cheska. Angelo meant a lot to you. We're here for you if you need anything.
Cheska offered a grateful smile to her guardians, feeling the weight of their support and love in that moment.
Cheska: (softly) Thank you, Joshua. Thank you, Andrea. I'm okay... I think I just needed some time to remember him and what he meant to me.
Andrea: (squeezing Cheska's hand gently) Take all the time you need, sweetheart. We're here for you, always.
As they embraced in a comforting hug, Cheska felt a sense of peace wash over her, knowing that she was surrounded by people who cared for her deeply. And as she settled in for the evening with Joshua and Andrea by her side, she found solace in the warmth of their love and the memories of Angelo that would forever remain in her heart.
Alone in her room, Cheska couldn't shake the image of Constantine from her mind. His unexpected appearance had stirred something within her, reigniting memories of Angelo's words about their potential friendship.
Cheska: (softly) Constantine... I can't believe I finally met you today. It's like Angelo's words came to life right before my eyes.
She paced back and forth, her thoughts swirling with a mix of curiosity and uncertainty about the boy who shared a connection with her through Angelo.
Cheska: (murmuring to herself) What did Angelo see in you, Constantine? What kind of person have you grown into?
As she pondered these questions, Cheska couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation about the possibility of getting to know Constantine better. She wondered what he was like beyond their brief encounter in the cafeteria, and whether they would indeed forge the friendship that Angelo had envisioned for them.
Cheska: (quietly) I hope we get the chance to talk again... to really get to know each other. Maybe then, I'll understand why Angelo believed in our connection so strongly.
With a determined resolve, Cheska made a silent promise to herself to keep an open mind and embrace whatever the future held in store, including the potential friendship with Constantine that Angelo had hoped for. And as she drifted off to sleep that night, her thoughts lingered on the possibilities that lay ahead, guided by the memory of her dear mentor and the mysterious boy who had captured her curiosity.
As Cheska made her way to school, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of the encounter with Constantine the day before, she rounded a corner and collided with someone, nearly stumbling in the process.
Cheska: (apologetically) Oh, I'm so sorry!
She quickly regained her balance and looked up to see Constantine standing before her, a slight frown creasing his brow as he rubbed his arm where they had made contact.
Constantine: (gruffly) It's okay. Just be careful next time.
Cheska's heart skipped a beat at the sight of him, but she quickly composed herself, masking her surprise with a polite smile.
Cheska: (nodding) Of course, my apologies again.
Without another word, Constantine continued on his way, leaving Cheska standing there, her thoughts spinning with the realization that he didn't recognize her from their encounter in the cafeteria.
Cheska: (to herself) He didn't even remember me... Maybe it's for the best. I'll just keep my distance for now.
As she resumed her walk to school, Cheska couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment mingled with relief at the missed opportunity to reconnect with Constantine. She resolved to focus on her studies and let fate take its course, unsure of what the future held for her and the enigmatic boy who had captured her attention.
As Cheska walked away, her mind still lingering on the encounter with Constantine, she couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity that lingered in the air. But as she turned the corner, her thoughts were interrupted by the voices of Lennon and Hillarion, who had caught up to Constantine and were engaged in animated conversation about a movie they had seen.
Lennon: (excitedly) Hey, Constantine, did you catch that new superhero movie that just came out? It was insane!
Hillarion: (nodding in agreement) Yeah, it was epic! The action scenes were off the charts.
Cheska paused for a moment, her attention drawn to the trio as they discussed the film with enthusiasm. But as she continued on her way, a sudden memory of Angelo flashed through her mind, intertwining with thoughts of Constantine.
Cheska: (whispering to herself) Angelo... Constantine...
She couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness at the reminder of her mentor, whose absence still weighed heavily on her heart. And yet, there was something about Constantine that stirred a sense of familiarity within her, a connection that she couldn't quite explain.
With a heavy sigh, Cheska pushed aside her thoughts and focused on the task at hand, determined to navigate the complexities of high school life with strength and resilience, even as the memory of Angelo and the enigma of Constantine continued to linger in her thoughts.Download Novelah App
