Chapter 13

From my chained position, I watched as the titan gods, their colossal forms radiating a profound and intimidating presence, loomed over the man beside me.
The goddess of beauty, her ethereal pulchritude reminiscent of celestial elegance, fixed her piercing gaze on him. Her voice, though gentle, carried the weight of authority.
"Explain to us, mortal, how you breached the barriers of human realms to enter this sanctum where none but the divine should tread."
The titan god of war, seated to the right, his visage marked by an imposing and battle-worn countenance, leaned forward, his gaze sharp and scrutinizing.
"Indeed," he growled, his voice like the rumble of distant thunder. "What manner of audacity drove you to traverse the boundaries that separate our worlds? And by what means did you manage to achieve such a feat?"
The man beside me began to speak, his tone imbued with a mixture of resolve and vulnerability.
"It was driven by love," he said, his voice carrying a sincerity that cut through the tension in the air. "I sought to reach someone dear to me, someone who is entangled in a situation far beyond my understanding. My actions were fueled by a desperate need to save her, even if it meant defying the very matrix of existence itself."
I remained silent, absorbing the gravity of his revelation. His words, though straightforward, held an emotional depth that somehow resonated with me.
Despite the grandeur and fearsome presence of the titan gods, my focus remained on him. I could see the unyielding determination in his eyes, reflecting the strength of his love and the lengths he was willing to go to protect someone who mattered to him.
"Lucky," I muttered in jealousy.
The titan goddess, her ethereal presence commanding the very air around her, leaned forward, her eyes glinting with an inscrutable mix of interest and skepticism.
“Your love,” she began, her voice resonating like a celestial melody, “has compelled you to challenge the immutable laws that govern our realms. What is it about this love that impels a mere mortal to confront beings of our stature?"
Her gaze was both penetrating and thoughtful, as though she were dissecting not just the man's words, but the very nature of love itself.
“You speak of love as if it were an unstoppable force, capable of transcending the boundaries of reality and defying the natural order. Yet, love is often seen as ephemeral, a fleeting moment of joy or sorrow. How can such a transient feeling possess the power to dismantle the cosmic structures that we, the gods, have established? What makes you believe that your love can overcome such profound divides?”
The titan god of war, his countenance a blend of stern resolve and analytical intensity, cut in with a booming voice.
“You imply that love has enabled you to breach our domain, yet love is but an emotion, often driven by irrationality. How does such a seemingly fragile concept grant you the strength to confront divine authority? What is it about your love that makes you believe it has the capacity to breach the very foundation of existence itself?”
The man gaze, though resolute, bore the weight of profound fatigue and introspection.
“Honestly,” he responded, his voice tinged with both defiance and vulnerability, “I don’t fully grasp it myself. What I do know is that the mere thought of losing the person I love forever was more than I could bear. The idea that I might be separated from them for all eternity, that they would be lost to me completely— it was an unbearable notion. The thought of their absence felt so overwhelming that it seemed capable of shattering every boundary and rule that stood between us.”
He took a deep breath, trying to articulate the depth of his conviction. “In that desperate moment, love transformed from a simple emotion into something far more potent. It became a driving force, a primal energy that defied reason and fate. I didn’t understand how or why, but it felt as though love had the power to transcend the limits of reality itself. That belief, that raw conviction, gave me the strength to face what should have been insurmountable. It was as if love itself had become a force capable of defying the core of existence, and that was what drove me to challenge the impossible.”
As I stood there, tethered by chains beside this man, I was engulfed in a swirling tempest of confusion and disbelief. The titan gods' questions and the man's answers seemed to weave an intricate tapestry of concepts I could barely comprehend.
The goddess’s celestial beauty and the god of war’s imposing presence added to the surreal nature of the situation. My thoughts churned chaotically as I tried to make sense of it all. Was this really happening? Was this some sort of cosmic judgment or a final confrontation before my own end?
The sense of disorientation only deepened as I listened to Sander's earnest, though baffling, explanation.
I nearly gasped. Sander? Where did that name came from?
My confusion reached a boiling point as I interjected, trying to grasp my place in this otherworldly dialogue.
“Why am I even here?” I asked, my voice tinged with desperation. “What does this have to do with me? Is this happening because I’m about to… fade away? Am I part of some final test or judgment?”
My heart pounded as I tried to reconcile my own existence with the divine drama unfolding before me. The gods' scrutiny and Sander's passionate declarations, or was that even this man's name, left me feeling like a mere spectator in a cosmic play, with no clear role or understanding.
The titan goddess’s gaze turned toward me, her eyes shimmering with an unsettling curiosity. “And you, mortal,” she addressed me with a tone that was both gentle and probing. “What is your perspective on love? How does it resonate with you in light of what our guest has shared?”
Her question seemed to carry an expectation of insight, but all I could muster was a somewhat naive and simplistic view of love. Why are they even asking me with such anyway?
I fumbled with my thoughts, trying to articulate a definition that felt honest yet inadequate.
“Love, to me,” I began hesitantly, “is like a warm, comforting presence. It’s the feeling of being cherished and cared for, a bond that makes life more meaningful. It’s simple, really—like a gentle hug or a kind word. It’s something that brings joy and connection to our lives.”
As the words left my mouth, I noticed the goddess’s expression shift to one of amusement. She let out a melodic laugh that seemed almost mocking.
“Is that all?” she inquired, her tone laced with subtle derision. “Such a simplistic view of love hardly aligns with the depth of emotion that drove this man to challenge the gods.”
Her laughter, though enchanting, stung as a reminder of the inadequacy of my understanding compared to the profound declarations of Satoru— I gasped when another name suddenly slipped my mind that I swiftly looked at him.
Yes! That was... his name.
“S-Satoru?” I stammered, my voice trembling with a mix of confusion and disbelief. “Y-You… Why are you here?” My question seemed to strike a nerve, as Satoru’s face crumpled into an expression of melodramatic despair, almost as if he was about to burst into tears.
“Did you really forget about me?” he groaned, his voice thick with a theatrical sense of betrayal.
It was like I’d just told him I’d forgotten his birthday and was re-gifting him last year’s socks. His dramatic reaction had me feeling like I was on a stage set for a soap opera.
“I-I kinda did,” I admitted, shifting uncomfortably and feeling like the world’s worst amnesiac. I turned my attention back to the goddess, who had apparently had enough of this soap opera melodrama. She turned to the god in the middle with a look of pure exasperation.
“You forgot to return her memories, didn’t you?” she snapped, practically throwing her hands up in divine frustration.
The god of universe, looking like he’d just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar, had the decency to look sheepish. The whole scene felt like a cosmic sitcom, with forgotten memories and divine reprimands adding a dash of comedic chaos to the surreal drama unravelling before me.
