Chapter 15

The goddess’s cold demeanor seemed to soften, her eyes flickering with something I couldn’t quite place—compassion, perhaps? The other gods exchanged glances, as though weighing the finality of what they had just discussed. Then, with a deep breath, she spoke again, her voice less severe but still carrying the authority of a deity.
"Perhaps we have overlooked something," she began, casting a glance at Satoru, then back to me. "While your actions have undeniably disrupted the natural order, they were born out of something more powerful than we first acknowledged. Love, it seems, has a way of bending even the rules of time and fate."
The god of war grumbled slightly, but even he nodded, recognizing the truth in her words. The god seated in the middle, the one who seemed the most kind, leaned forward.
"Satoru’s love for you, Quinn, was strong enough to break through the walls that even gods have set. That is not something we can easily dismiss. You’ve proven that the human heart carries its own kind of power, one that rivals even our authority."
I exchanged a quick glance with Satoru. His face, though worn with the trials of everything we had been through, now held a glimmer of hope. My heart fluttered—was this really happening?
The goddess continued, "Instead of the punishments we initially spoke of, we will offer you both a different fate. Satoru, your courage in facing us head-on and defying the laws of time cannot be ignored. You will keep your memories and your love for Quinn, but you must live with the responsibility of what you have done. The bond between you two will remain, though the timepiece that allowed you to break the rules will be returned to its rightful place, far beyond your reach, thus, must be forgotten."
I gasped, barely believing what I was hearing. "We can… stay together?"
The goddess nodded, a faint smile gracing her lips. "Yes, Quinn. But remember, love alone must guide you from here. No more meddling with time or the realms of the gods."
Satoru moved closer, squeezed my hand, and I felt the warmth of his touch, grounding me in that moment. The burden of the past lifted slightly as hope for the future began to bloom. We had faced divine judgment and come through, together.
"As for the scales of balance," the god of war added, "they are now restored. You will return to the human realm, to live out your lives as you choose. But tread carefully—your actions have shown us that even the smallest ripples in time can cause great waves. We trust you won’t make the same mistakes again."
I nodded fervently, tears of relief stinging my eyes. Satoru turned to the gods, bowing slightly, gratitude evident in his expression. "Thank you," he said softly. "You can count on us this time."
“We'll out our trust to your words. Eventually," she explained, “the memories of everything that has happened—from the very beginning where Quinn found the timepiece and to the chains that bound you to the trials you endured—will begin to fade. It’s not a punishment but rather a natural outcome."
"Humans are not meant to bear the full weight of divine conflicts. Over time, all that will remain is the bond you and Satoru share, free from the shadows of what transpired here. Live your lives without this burden, for this is the greatest gift of freedom we can offer.
As the goddess spoke her final words, a subtle shift in the air made my skin tingle. I glanced down at my wrists, where the cold metal chains had bound me for what felt like an eternity.
The links that had clung so tightly, confining me to the metal bar beside Satoru, began to shimmer. Slowly, as if dissolving into the fabric of the universe itself, the chains faded into a mist-like substance, unraveling strand by strand.
I watched in awe as the last remnants of the chains dissipated into thin air, leaving only faint, glowing traces of where they had once been. My arms, once heavy with the weight of captivity, now felt light—almost weightless. For a moment, I just stared at my wrists, turning them over to make sure I wasn’t imagining it.
Satoru, too, looked at his now-freed hands, then back at me, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "It’s over," he whispered, his voice full of disbelief and relief. "We’re free."
I couldn’t help but smile back, the feeling of freedom washing over me like a warm breeze after a long winter. The oppressive presence of the chains had vanished, and with them, the tension that had gripped my heart.
With a wave of the his hand, the god of justice signaled the end of the trial. The great hall around us began to dissolve, and soon, the celestial figures faded from view.
Before I knew it, Satoru and I were back in the world we knew—alive, together, and free to make the future ours.
A smile broke across my face as I looked at him. "Looks like we’ve been given another chance."
He smiled back, pulling me close. "And this time, we’ll make the most of it."
