Chapter 22: City Festival - Part 2

The festival was winding down, the lights now casting a softer glow as the evening settled into night. The crowd had thinned out, but the remaining festival-goers were enjoying the last of the festivities. Kuze and Masha had managed to grab a couple of seats at a small outdoor stage where a local band was performing.
“This band is really good,” Kuze commented, leaning closer to Masha to be heard over the music.
Masha nodded, her eyes fixed on the stage. “Yeah, they’ve been amazing all night. I’m glad we stayed.”
As the band played a lively tune, Masha started to sway slightly to the rhythm, and Kuze couldn’t help but watch her, admiring how the festival lights danced in her eyes. She caught him looking and laughed, her cheeks tinged with pink.
“Why are you staring?” Masha asked, her voice playful.
Kuze shrugged, a teasing smile on his lips. “Just enjoying the view. You look pretty cute dancing.”
Masha’s laughter filled the air, light and happy. “You’re not so bad yourself.”
They spent the next few minutes talking about their favorite songs and the best parts of the festival. Kuze noticed how relaxed Masha seemed, her earlier tension from the day melting away. It was a stark contrast to the first part of the day, when she had seemed more reserved.
Just as they were beginning to feel the chill of the evening, a soft glow appeared in the sky as fireworks began to light up the night. Masha gasped, her eyes wide with wonder.
“Oh, wow! Look at that!” she exclaimed, clutching Kuze’s arm.
Kuze looked up, a grin spreading across his face as the first firework exploded in a burst of color. “This is perfect. The fireworks are always the best part.”
They watched in awe as the sky filled with bright colors and patterns, each explosion eliciting delighted gasps from the crowd. Kuze glanced at Masha, noticing how the fireworks reflected in her eyes.
“It’s beautiful,” Masha said quietly, her voice barely audible over the fireworks.
“Yeah, it is,” Kuze agreed, his gaze fixed on her. “I’m really glad we got to experience this together.”
Masha turned her head to look at him, her expression soft and sincere. “Me too. I’m really happy we did.”
The firework display continued, each burst of light creating a mesmerizing spectacle in the sky. Kuze felt a surge of emotion, something he had been holding back all day. As the final firework exploded in a brilliant finale, he turned to Masha, feeling a sudden urge to express his feelings.
“Masha,” he said, his voice steady despite the thumping of his heart. “I need to tell you something.”
Masha looked at him, her eyes curious. “What is it?”
Kuze took a deep breath, gathering his courage. “I’ve had an amazing time with you today. And... I don’t want this to end. I really care about you, and I want us to be... more than just friends.”
Masha’s eyes widened, and for a moment, she was silent. The excitement of the festival and the emotions of the day seemed to converge into this one moment. She looked at him, her heart racing.
“Kuze,” she said softly, her voice filled with emotion. “I care about you too. More than you know. I’ve been feeling the same way.”
Kuze’s heart soared as he heard her words. The tension between them melted away, replaced by a warmth that seemed to fill the space around them. He reached out and took her hand, feeling the softness of her fingers against his.
“Masha, will you be my girlfriend?” he asked, his voice filled with hope.
Masha’s eyes sparkled as she smiled, her cheeks flushed with happiness. “Yes, Kuze. I’d love to.”
As if on cue, the final fireworks exploded in the sky, casting a dazzling light over the couple. Kuze and Masha leaned in, their faces close, and shared a tender kiss, the fireworks serving as a backdrop to their moment. It was a kiss full of promise and affection, a sweet culmination of the day’s events.
When they finally pulled away, both of them were smiling widely, their hearts full.
“I guess we should make the most of the rest of the night,” Kuze suggested, his voice light and cheerful.
Masha nodded, still holding his hand. “Definitely. Let’s enjoy every last bit of this festival.”
They walked together, hand in hand, exploring the remaining booths and enjoying the last of the festival’s offerings. The night was filled with laughter and joy, and as they continued to make memories together, it was clear that this was just the beginning of something special.
As they finally made their way back to the entrance of the festival grounds, Masha leaned her head on Kuze’s shoulder, and he wrapped an arm around her, holding her close. The festival had been a perfect setting for their new beginning, and they both knew that no matter what the future held, they would face it together.
