The following week passed quickly, with the excitement of the upcoming exams and the school festival keeping everyone busy. Soyoung and Chaewol had continued their study sessions, their bond growing stronger with each shared challenge and laughter-filled break. One afternoon, after a particularly grueling study session, Soyoung and Chaewol decided to take a break and enjoy some fresh air. They walked to a nearby park, where they settled on a bench under a large tree, the shade providing a welcome respite from the afternoon sun. Chaewol sighed, stretching his legs. “I think we’ve earned this break. That last math problem was a monster.” Soyoung nodded, taking a deep breath of the crisp air. “Definitely. And we’ve got a lot more to tackle before the exams, but at least we’re making progress.” Chaewol looked at her, his expression thoughtful. “You know, I’ve been meaning to ask you something. How are you feeling about everything—school, exams, the festival?” Soyoung glanced at him, her expression contemplative. “It’s been a lot to handle, honestly. But having you around has made things so much easier. I feel like I’m not facing it all alone.” Chaewol’s gaze softened. “I’m glad I could be here for you. And I feel the same way. Having you as a study partner and a friend has made a big difference for me.” Soyoung smiled, feeling a warm flutter in her chest. “I’m glad we’ve been able to support each other. It’s nice to have someone who understands what I’m going through.” Chaewol’s expression turned a bit more serious. “There’s something else I’ve been thinking about. You’ve been really supportive, and I feel like we’ve grown closer. But there’s something I need to tell you.” Soyoung’s curiosity was piqued. “What is it, Chaewol?” Chaewol took a deep breath, his gaze meeting hers with a mixture of determination and nervousness. “I’ve been thinking a lot about us lately. And I realized that... I have feelings for you, Soyoung. More than just friendship.” Soyoung’s eyes widened in surprise, her heart racing. “You... you do?” Chaewol nodded, his cheeks slightly flushed. “Yeah. I didn’t want to say anything until I was sure, but it’s been on my mind for a while now. I really like you, Soyoung. And I want to see where this could go.” Soyoung’s mind raced as she processed his confession. She took a moment to gather her thoughts, feeling a mixture of excitement and uncertainty. “Chaewol, I... I didn’t expect this. But I’ve been feeling the same way. I just wasn’t sure if you felt the same.” Chaewol’s expression brightened with relief and happiness. “Really? That’s... that’s amazing to hear.” Soyoung smiled, feeling her nerves ease as she looked into his eyes. “Yeah. I’ve really enjoyed spending time with you and getting to know you better. I think I’d like to see where this could lead, too.” Chaewol’s eyes sparkled with joy. “I’m so glad to hear that. I was worried that I might have ruined our friendship by bringing it up.” Soyoung shook her head, reaching out to gently touch his hand. “No, not at all. I’m happy you told me how you feel. It means a lot to me.” Chaewol’s gaze softened as he looked at her hand in his. “So, where do we go from here?” Soyoung’s smile widened as she squeezed his hand. “I think we take it one step at a time. Let’s continue to support each other, enjoy our time together, and see where this takes us.” Chaewol’s expression was one of contentment and hope. “That sounds perfect.” They sat together in comfortable silence for a few moments, enjoying the peacefulness of the park and the newfound clarity in their relationship. The gentle rustling of the leaves and the distant laughter of children playing created a serene backdrop for their conversation. Soyoung eventually broke the silence, her tone playful. “You know, we should probably get back to studying soon. Those exams aren’t going to prepare themselves.” Chaewol chuckled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. “Yeah, I guess we should. But I’m really glad we had this talk.” Soyoung nodded, her eyes shining with affection. “Me too. It’s nice to have this moment between us.” As they stood up and began to walk back toward their study spot, Chaewol glanced over at Soyoung with a warm smile. “So, how about we make a deal? For every exam we conquer, we treat ourselves to something fun.” Soyoung laughed, her spirits lifted by his playful suggestion. “Deal! And maybe we can add a few more ‘treats’ for every small victory along the way.” Chaewol grinned. “Sounds like a plan. I’m looking forward to all the celebrations we’ll have.” Soyoung’s heart swelled with happiness as they continued their walk, feeling grateful for the special connection they shared. The day had brought unexpected revelations, but it had also strengthened their bond and given them a new sense of excitement for the future. As they reached their study spot, they dove back into their work with renewed energy, their shared moments of laughter and affection fueling their determination to succeed. The exams were still ahead, but with each other’s support, they felt ready to face whatever challenges lay in their path.
