Chapter 18: Unexpected Turns

The days following their romantic evening were filled with excitement and anticipation for Soyoung and Chaewol. Their relationship was stronger than ever, and they were eager to continue building their future together. However, life had a way of throwing unexpected challenges their way.
One sunny afternoon, Soyoung and Chaewol were sitting in the school courtyard, enjoying a peaceful moment between classes. The courtyard was bustling with students, but their little corner seemed to be a haven of calm.
Chaewol was flipping through a book, while Soyoung worked on her homework. The warm sunlight filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground.
Chaewol glanced up from his book, his brow furrowed slightly. “You seem a bit distracted today. Is everything okay?”
Soyoung looked up from her notes, her expression thoughtful. “Actually, I’ve been thinking a lot about the upcoming exams and how much work we still need to do. It’s been a bit overwhelming.”
Chaewol closed his book and set it aside, turning his full attention to Soyoung. “I understand. Exams can be stressful. But remember, we’ve been handling things pretty well so far. We just need to keep supporting each other.”
Soyoung smiled gratefully. “You’re right. I guess I’m just feeling the pressure of balancing everything—school, the festival, and our personal lives.”
Chaewol reached across the table, taking her hand in his. “We’re in this together, Soyoung. We’ll get through it, just like we always do. And if you ever need a break or someone to talk to, I’m here for you.”
Soyoung’s eyes softened with emotion as she squeezed his hand. “Thank you, Chaewol. Your support means a lot to me. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Chaewol smiled warmly, his gaze filled with affection. “And I wouldn’t want to imagine life without you either.”
Their peaceful moment was interrupted by the arrival of Mina, who approached them with a concerned look on her face. “Hey, Soyoung, Chaewol. Can I talk to you for a minute?”
Soyoung and Chaewol exchanged a curious glance before Soyoung nodded. “Of course, Mina. What’s up?”
Mina took a seat next to them, her expression serious. “I’ve been hearing some rumors around school. Apparently, there’s been some talk about your relationship, Chaewol.”
Chaewol’s eyebrows raised in surprise. “Rumors? What kind of rumors?”
Mina looked around, ensuring no one else was listening. “There are whispers that you and Soyoung are only together for show, or that it’s some sort of scheme. People are saying all kinds of things, and it’s starting to affect how others see you.”
Soyoung’s heart sank as she listened. “What? That’s ridiculous. We’re together because we care about each other, not because of some scheme.”
Chaewol’s expression hardened, his protective instincts kicking in. “I don’t understand why people have to be so cruel. Our relationship is real, and we don’t owe anyone an explanation.”
Mina nodded sympathetically. “I agree. It’s frustrating that people can be so judgmental. I just wanted to let you know, so you’re aware of what’s being said.”
Soyoung took a deep breath, trying to process the information. “Thank you for telling us, Mina. We’ll deal with it. It’s just frustrating that people can’t be more supportive.”
Chaewol squeezed Soyoung’s hand reassuringly. “We’ll get through this, Soyoung. Let’s not let their negativity get to us.”
Mina smiled, trying to lighten the mood. “You two have always been strong together. I know you can handle this.”
As Mina left them, Soyoung and Chaewol were left to process the new challenge. They both felt a mix of frustration and determination.
Chaewol looked at Soyoung with a determined expression. “We’ve faced challenges before, and we’ve always come out stronger. This is just another test of our strength.”
Soyoung nodded, her eyes resolute. “You’re right. We won’t let rumors or negativity affect us. We know what we have is real, and that’s all that matters.”
Chaewol smiled, his gaze softening. “Exactly. And no matter what anyone says, we’ll continue to support and care for each other. That’s what’s important.”
Soyoung’s heart swelled with gratitude and love. “Thank you, Chaewol. I’m so lucky to have you by my side.”
Chaewol leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “And I’m lucky to have you too, Soyoung. We’ll face this together, just like we always do.”
As they walked back to their classes, Soyoung and Chaewol felt a renewed sense of unity and purpose. They were determined to rise above the rumors and continue building their relationship on a foundation of trust and love.
The challenges they faced only strengthened their bond, and they knew that their love would be their greatest source of strength as they navigated the ups and downs of life together.
