28 - White Crane Origin

I carefully broke a sweet before I turned away. The man in front gaze made me uncomfortable. This man is the doctor I requested from Kalester, but I didn't know he's quite decent, he has such a small body, but he's posture is quite masculine. He has dark pale hair, so does his gray eyes. He was not bad at all, but what made me uncomfortable was his gaze piercing through my disguise.
"Hey, boss, you have a guest?" He asked.
Isn't that obvious? Perhaps his not as clever as he looks.
"Yes, I have, any problem?" Then Kalester responded coldly.
"Hmm, yeah, I have no problem. Anyways, why did you call me? Is this some kind of another hobby of yours, where you initially asked me to do something?" I give a long breathe, as I heard him speak. He's very informal for someone who is talking to his superior.
Now, I wonder where Kalester got his slang tongue. Rune was speaking more formal, the guard do the same, and this man speak like a delinquent. Should I be worried where he got it from?
"Are you questioning me now?" A chill soon run down through my vein, as Kalester's questioned had made me look at him.
Then I quietly move as I turn to look in front. The man in front tightly clenched his fingers, as he comfortably swiped his hands on his bangs, that exposed his forehead. Then he looked at him. "You just had to call me at the wrong time, can't you stop bothering people whenever you want!"
Do they not have a good relationship? He sounded mad. "I am cutting off your paycheck—"
"Shut up! You're always threatening me like that," he then marched from his seat as he pointed at him while the other was at the coffee table. "You little bastard, you really have no manners are you!?"
"Doctor, if I were you, keep those filthy fingers away from me," then Kalester said.
I was not sure what was happening now, since both of them are cursing at one another. That said, I thought they are close, turns out they don't have that kind of relationship. Seeing them like this reminds me of Kalester and Eris.
"So," the doctor said as he stood up and he looked at me. "Who's this fair lady? And why is she with a tyrant like you?"
"You have a foul mouth as ever," said Kalester. "She is actually the one who required your presence."
I stood up at the chance, and I bowed my head. "Hello, excuse my boldness, and thank you for coming, I hope I did not bother you today."
"A noble lady?" he asked and I looked up.
"Yes, thought I prefer having my identity secret, if you may."
He nodded as he sat back, which is why I followed. "Milad—"
"Do please address me informally, I do not mind, you can call me Cat as well."
The doctor daze before he frowned and nodded. "She's well mannered, unlike our petty little owner here," he mumbled but we could still hear him whispering those words.
"Might having to live in the alley's suffice your arrogance?" asked Kalester.
"Oh, I deeply apologize, because I am merely arrogant," then the doctor teased enough to make Kalester pissed.
I smiled and patted his shoulder's to calm him down. He looked at me before he pouted. He looks cute when he acts like a child, but sometimes he's scary when he became serious. Glad, he only shows this side to me.
"The reason I asked for your presence here is simply because I want your knowledge on something related to medicine," I stated as calmly as I could.
"Oh, finally a genuine person who understands my advocacy over medicine," he said nodding his head and he looked at me. "What can this lad do for you then?"
I breathed in and I straightened my back. "Let me ask you, are you aware of the effects caused by White Crane?"
The effects of White Crane depends on the type of illness one has. However, such drug is dangerous if someone with none illness were to take it. That said, other effects or symptoms are what I lack.
"Are you interested in those drugs?" He asked me, and I nodded. "Well, most people know that White Crane is an effective cure for mild sickness, and it also is effective against rushes. This drug could kill bacteria that is plunging a human body."
Yes, many people knew about it. I failed to see why he had to mentioned it, but strange, his face had changed and become pallid. "However, White Crane is still a poisonous drugs that has been banned by many countries. Because, apparently, White Crane came from a flower called Lizbell."
He silently shot a gaze as he looked down. "What do you mean poisonous?" asked Kalester.
"Lizbell is a flower that is rich of medical attribution, only if you do not considered the roots. Lizbell is a powerful medicine, but it's roots are a drug of poison that can become dangerous, that is why many doctors have to carefully use method when extracting each powder inside of those Lizbell Roots," he's right, it needed to be extracted.
"But, what happened if it's not extracted and someone used it on someone, what does this effect them? And what is White Crane?" I asked with confusion.
They then looked at me, and the doctor coughed. "In that case, roots that are not extracted can cause problem. Which is why doctors recommend Lizbell Roots to be extracted first. Because, once they made those roots into powder, without the process of extraction, it will remain poisonous and can cause a terminal disease if someone continuously take it. A disease similar to Ephesia Rush, called as Phizlia will effect their body."
I was right, those drugs are not just medicine for cure, but also a poison! That man I met before, he might be a doctor or pharmacist. He seemed to know a lot about medicinal herbs and compounds.
"Can Phizlia case cause death?" I asked.
He silently gaze for a second, before he shook his head. "No, but the continuous take of the White Crane can."
I cover my mouth from what I just heard, it was like a bittersweet of stunned and fear. It horrified me, I was aware that someone wants the first prince's death, but this much, I know who did it.
"Then, how long does White Crane take the life of that person?" I asked as little calm was heard from my voice.
"At this point, it will shorten their life, my estimate could be depending on the time they took the drug. If, however, they have been taking it for years since childhood, my guest would be not far long, maybe next year, we might not know without checking that person's condition first," he responded.
Everything fell into pieces, one by one, and the only irrational thought that was coming inside of my head is that everything was planned. The death of the first prince, the empress sudden passing, my crimes and death, the fall of the empire. That is an impossible coincidence, as if someone's pulling a string.
"Cure..." I utter. "Is there a cure for it?"
My words have started to crack. I have seen the empress fall down at the death of her child, as all hope from her eyes has darkened. She would always cry at the thought of her son, and sometimes lose her mind. I have visited her countless of times, and I always witness her becoming violent when the concubine people were trying to stop her from meeting her relatives and family.
Nor when she wanted to go on a vacation. She was just like a trapped canary, losing her mind inside her husband's house, and finally I was told that she took her life.
"The medical institute has been developing a proto—"
"Rox, this is confidential information about the medical institution, are you aware of the contract you signed with them? This could ruin you," said Kalester as he quietly sat next to me.
The man in front, whom he called Rox stiffly smiled. "Well aware, indeed, but you forgot, I am already part of your league, my liege, whatever confidentiality is not a problem with us in the information house. So, I assume, this lady here is also part of us now? She is someone you precious, is she not?"
Rox started speaking formally, it is quite weird for me but I guess, he could speak like a noble as well.
"Why are you asking me, Rox Brusch?" Then Kalester said with a smirk.
Wait, what!? "Rox Brusch!?"
I covered my mouth and they suddenly looked at me. No way, he's Brusch!? That infamous genius? The one who top amongst the entire Medical Institution, and the one who invented the cure for Ephesia Rush two years later?
He has saved hundreds of patients near death, and those who have been diagnosed with a disease which has known to be incurable. The only one heir to the Medical Institution, the one who will soon become the new master? What is he doing here? Worse, he becomes a doctor for spies?
"Oh, it seems, my lady knew me?" He asked and I marched up.
"Of course!" I stated. "Who would not know of the genius soon-to-be master of the Medical Institution, you are the man of many capabilities, who would not know of you?"
Wait, I looked at Kalester and Rox before thoughts suddenly left my head. "Two of the famous male bachelorette, handsome on the other hand, if I put Eris in, I'm sure women would go crazy to see them all together in one picture."
I covered my lips and looked down. I realize my intrusive thoughts won over me. The average beauty of this era is the standard that women want even if they are being rejected by them.
"Eh!"
I looked at him, and Kalester was looking at me smiling as each smug made me want to hide my existence. It was good that I got a veil or else, I'll be blushing hard.
"So, that is your standard?" Then he suddenly asked me.
"No!" I denied as I sat back.
"Would I be worried that you might run away if I am not of your taste?" He teased.
"Stop saying nonsense," I pouted as I breathed out. "You know that's not true."
I averted my gaze when I suddenly heard a fake cough from Rox. "I guess, you two have that kind of relationship... As I was saying, I have the capability of curing someone with the newest invention that my associates have been developing over time."
"Pardon?" Oh, I remembered. A month after his highness the first prince's dead anniversary, someone from the medical institution suddenly announced a technology that they invented which could have saved the first prince life.
That time, I was already married to the Second Prince. This gossip was one that I only heard from the palace maids. I was not allowed to leave my position as the crown princess, that is why I can only gather information through gossip and rumors.
"This might sound impossible, but we did invent a technology that could help us cure diseases that are considered incurable. As the upcoming master of the institute, we have the best inventors that can compare to the Tower of Science, who have been handling new technology for the military," he explained and then I nodded.
That invention which he mentioned had saved hundreds of lives before my regression. The Medical Institution is a place like the Tower of Science, they do not belong to any countries, they are independent seekers of truth that has helped our world flourish. Though religion is against them, they still couldn't get rid of them because what they bring into this world has affected the development of this world.
In a sense, as an independent place, they are not bound by any rules. Currently, those who pass the academy have two choices if they are pursuing knowledge for truth. That is either enter as one of the noblest graduates to work in the empire, and join one of the top hospitals in the empire. There is also this choice, they can enter the Medical Institution or any part of the Tower of Science.
They are no wonder the best of all time. If that is the case, can I trust him? This is about the security of the Imperial Family, the first prince. With him by our side, her majesty's influence will wildly increase. She can overturn the concubine's wicked schemes, but that is only guaranteed if I gain his—
I shifted as soon as I felt a warm that flowed within me. Then, I looked down as I saw a huge hand wrapped around my fingers. This took me a second as I looked up, and saw Kalester's gaze on me.
"Rox Brusch is part of my organization, whatever we may do, he will follow, do not worry too much. The security of our fellow is stronger than the palace does, everyone can be trusted," he whispered to me, when I suddenly felt the urge to breathe out.
I nodded. "Sorry, it would take time, can I leave for now?"
