Episode 30: A Sorcerer’s Fate
Adira’s POV
“Tell me your plans, Edith,” my lips spouted. Every footstep she does seems to be the only noise bouncing onto the walls of the corridor, it accelerates every second it ticks.
“Leave that for later. We have to see the frontier now.”
Even her tone suddenly changed when she heard the news. She paced the right-wing and took the stairs down. From the doors that were settled in a row, Edith opened the fourth. “Don’t waste a single second, Adira. The faster we reach the battlefield, the easier we can have an idea to come up with a plan.”
She flung her dangerous killing stares at me before she closed the door. Though she didn’t wait for my reply, I nodded my head and paced deeper inside the room. It’s the armory, and these weapons awaiting me weren’t a simple collection. It was almost the exact replica of Sinandaya’s weaponry room in every district.
Hung up the ceiling were arrow canisters filled with, of course, the shafts. Arranged abreast the walls were blades of several different sizes. From daggers to swords, and axes to rapiers. Stocked surrounding the closed windows were spears, lancets, and halberds. I wouldn’t deny, but this place is somewhat… amusing than what’s in Sinandaya.
My legs started moving and grabbed enough things it could get. And the minute my eyes nailed on the far corner left of the area, there was no second wasted as I swiftly approached the stand. Exquisite… the color and every detail on every part were what I call fantastic.
All dark, like the color of the night. Every buckles and clutches were perfect places to hide and settle multiple daggers. Metal plates on the shoulders, arms, and down the knees. The boots were light and easy to move for its spikes like it is intended for leaping and landing on high areas.
“I’ll assume you’re done. Follow me.” Edith appeared on an earthen brown armor.
It was recently I realized that the combat armor I’d been staring at a while ago was what I am wearing now. The same kind of side braid fastened my hair and the black cloak aside easily clasped on my shoulders as I hurriedly catch up Edith.
“There’s an item of clothing beneath the frontal part. Pull it and try to cover your face. Better be ready when we arrive there,” she commanded and rushed towards the exit. “Who knows? Someone might kill you.” She laughed and turned her head to face me.
“I don’t consider that as a question,” I replied sarcastically as I pulled the silken fabric and covered half of my face that only my eyes were visible.
“Glad to know.” She took her eyes off me and run as she leaped on the dashing fawn stallion.
“Wow. I didn’t know wolves do ride horses!” I chased her with another sepia horse, the mocking grin on my face started. “Shouldn’t you just shift into your wolf and run?” I added and intentionally thumped my horse’s stomach and raced with her.
Edith turned at me with baring teeth and clenching jaw. Her chestnut hair freely dancing and her, maybe natural, raised brows signifies that she’s not in the mood to receive jokes. I also noticed her high-to-neck metal collar and the breastplate.
Almost everything was hard metal in her armor. I know it should be it. But Edith is a werewolf that would shift to her wolf anytime she wanted. How would she do it when she’s all covered in those tight suits?
“Because I can’t,” she suddenly blurted. “I lost it the moment I accepted the role of being the sorceress high priest.” Again, spurning her gaze away and darted ahead of the way. “It’s my greatest decision with no choice. It’s like I did trade what I am to something I don’t.”
“You read thoughts, I see,” I cut in nodding my head. I keep my eyes ahead of the road and equaled her speed. “You are what it should be. You regret accepting being the second highest to the Alpha, yet I do not see anything wrong with how you manipulate your responsibilities and role being a sorcerer.”
Minutes clicked and she didn’t respond. Perhaps she chose not to speak. Diego mentioned the thing about her sister. That she only had three years to bond with her wolf when she learned how to shift. Diego said Edith described it as cruel because the former alpha, Alesandro Alfarro, finds the truth about her destiny.
“How far is the frontier?” I asked, breaking the wall of silence between us.
“About a kilometer more,” she responded in a second. “I thought you are more than an introvert kind of being. Mind shutting that mouth of yours?” Edith rolled her eyes causing me to raise a brow.
‘Tch, they three together with Amalia and Camilla were indeed from a single strain. The bitchy strain, but each ranks different level. With Camilla placed highest of course’ I laughed with my thoughts but then stopped the jiff I sensed her roasting glares she flung towards me.
“What? It is true, isn’t it?”
“Listen, even if you are this pack’s Luna, nothing will change on how I see you.”
Both of my brows hitched up, “Why? In what way do you see me?”
She slowed down and stared at me with no emotions to reflect. Here she goes again, her oaken eyes resemble Camilla’s way of glaring at me. Their B strain, I mean it! They come from it.
“Someone that does nothing but be a burden.”
‘Okay, that’s it. I doubt it if we no longer reach the frontier with her head still attached. I swear, I’ll pull every nail you have when I caught you, Edith!’ My teeth clenched and punted my legs, galloping the stallion as fast as I can.
Seems like she perceived me that she lifted her butt from the horse’s back like she’s in a race. My forehead creased until there was no gap to be seen between my brows. I tightened my grip on the rope that I am holding and tried to catch up with her.
But Edith is like a dashing arrow, after the high mountain that we’ve passed, she was gone and even her shadows weren’t caught up. I irritatedly rolled my eyes and followed the track she had left, whatever. Then go! Like you can start that plan without me, Tch. She’s clearly showing off skills.
“Who was it, Dievery?”
“Someone who can give enough tactics.”
“Why do I feel it was someone I wouldn’t trust.”
“There was no other choice, Malfoy.”
I paused and waited for them to finish arguing. Edith, talking to a man without a shirt on. I couldn’t help but stare at his burning pack of abs, not that it’s too tempting sexy damn but because it was dripping blood from his gashed wound.
“Coming from you?” he chuckled sarcastically. I saw Edith move her brow darted her eyes towards me, giving a signal to pace forth.
With a deep sigh, I leaped off from the horse and unclasped the metal plates on my arm. I wanted to remove them earlier than this but I was distracted when this man appeared from the makeshift tents and had his way to Edith, he’s quite interesting. Have we met before?
“You,” the man coldly muttered and was about to attack me with his claws unveiled when his own injury stopped him before Edith could. “What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’re the one she’s mentioning?”
He screamed at me while his hands tightly covered his wound from opening. Three of his men burst out of the tent and help him stand, others told him to get back and have his wound treated but he didn’t listen. Still staring at me with raging fury eyes, his anger on me maybe was too much that even only seeing my appearance wants to curse me to death.
“You killed her! You killed my mate!”
“Which one?” I taunted and clipped both my hands behind me. Like what is expected, they hate me. Nothing new. “I’ve slaughtered thousands, can you tell what she looks like?”
He growled and compelled his men holding him to calm down, trying to reach and bury me alive. To that sight, I didn’t stop and walked further to him. “Tell me. Maybe I can recognize how I killed her,” I enunciated.
“I will kill you! I will kill you, devil!”
“Calm down, Malfoy.”
“Enough!”
“Your wound is opening. Stop shouting!”
I simply raised one side of my lips at him before I walk and let Edith drag me away from this Malfoy.
“What were you thinking? You’re causing a scene. Do you want him to rebel?” Edith belled and rashly squeezed both of my arms.
I hissed in pain that her claws are now piercing my skin. Keeping my head looking down, I chose to avoid her stares. “Let him be.”
“Eh?” she chortled and shook my body like a stone. “If you keep on arousing anger out of them, then there will be no chance we’ll win on this battle. Do you really want to help us or not?” Edith paused and looked at me for a minute. “Or are you up to something? Are you planning to split our milita—”
“I have no reason to do that,” I cut her and raised my head, countering her judging stares. “I’m letting you curse and call me the way you all want without even knowing my side in this situation. You are all trampling on me like I’m a piece of trash, yet I do nothing about it. Because I have my own reason why I do not defend myself and escape from you. You hold no control over me, Edith.”Download Novelah App
