CHAPTER 57
Sunny
"Sunny, let's have our dinner. Go outside now." I heard my sister calling out for me.
I slowly got up from my bed and went out of my room.
"Goodness! Look at you. You look like a zombie," she added when she saw me. "Let's go."
Fei guided me, and we went together to the kitchen.
We had our dinner quietly.
Very unusual.
It's the first time we've had a dinner like this.
No one dared to say anything, nor dared to strike up any conversation.
We have been like this for days already, and I know I am the reason.
That day...
I woke up and I was already in my room. I do not know, but my tears fell on their own, as if they were a river that does not know how to stop. It's like I was not able to stop them even if I wanted to.
They did not question me at all. They let me cry and cry until I fell asleep. At first, Fei asked me worriedly if Steven hurt me since I was crying nonstop, but I was able to tell them that he did not.
"Eat, Sunny." Grandma reminded. "Do you want me to feed you?" she asked.
I shook my head and smiled. "No need, Grandma. Thank you." I replied and started eating.
I do not want to make her more worried.
I am trying to be okay in front of them, but I guess I can't do that right now. I am just staying in my room all day. I am also absent for days at school.
I am still not ready.
I am still not okay...
Even though I want to see him and ask how he is.
I do not think I am ready for that one yet.
I am hoping that they are alright.
"Are you okay?" Mom asked when she sat beside me.
I am trying to bond with them. We are watching a drama tonight after dinner.
I nodded, "Yes, Mom. Thank you for asking." I answered.
"I am worried. That is why I am always checking on you. I need to make sure that you do not feel you are alone," Mom replied. "Remember that we are always here for you. You do not have to say it because we want to know. We will listen to you when you are ready." she added.
Fei commented, "You are crying again," as she handed me a tissue. "How can we be fine if you are not?" she asked.
I burst into tears.
"Sorry." I told them.
"Okay, you don't need to be sorry. Just cry until you get better." Grandma added.
"Steven...I do not think I know him that well." I shared.
"Why?" Mom asked. "Did something happen that day?"
I nodded. "Will you believe me? Will you promise to believe and understand me?" I asked.
They all nodded back at me.
"While we were watching a movie together with Mavin, they felt like someone was outside. So I volunteered to open the door to see who it was. I thought it might be their friends and we should not wait for them," I started sharing.
"I do not know, but I was confused that time. How could they know someone was out there when they did not ring the bell or there was no sound coming from the outside? I also thought that their friends had messaged them, but instead of letting me open the door, Steven stopped me from doing so."
"After that, I just saw the door fly away and... wolves came inside. They were many, and they were staring at us. H-how could wolves enter or break the door? Were they that strong since they were wild animals?"
"No. They can't do that. They can't do that, unless they have superpowers." Fei commented.
"I think they have." I answered.
"What? The superpower thing?" Fei asked.
I nodded, "I saw Mr. Prile. I asked him to stay away from the wolves because they might bite him. They were talking about something I do not understand at all. It seems like they were talking about organizations or something. I also learned that Mr. Prile tried to harm Steven."
"And then, Mr. Prile ordered the wolves to kill me."
I saw them gasp in shock.
"The wolves started to attack me that time, but Mavin and Steven fought and did not let them come at me. But...I saw Mavin turn into a wolf too."
"What?!" Fei yelled. "You saw him turn into a wolf too? How could that happen? Are you sure about that?" she asked, panicking.
I slowly nodded, trying to stop my tears from coming down. "Steven too!" I added. I did not see him turn into one, but I know and feel that he was the wolf who was trying to stop the wolves from attacking me. Only Mavin and Steven were there, so there is no reason someone would help us."
"I do not know what to do. It feels so weird to me. I did not imagine there were still things like that or that I was just hallucinating at that time, but I am sure about it. I have been dreaming about it every night. I am having a nightmare about how Mr. Prile told the wolves to kill me."
"What should I do?" I asked for their help. "I am really lost now. I am starting to like Steven, but why does it feel like he lied to me? I still do not know him too much." I added.
Mom hugged me tightly.
"It's okay...you will be fine." Mom said. "I am glad you are safe."
"But what about Steven and his family?" Fei asked.
"I think they are not here to harm people," Grandma commented. "I never imagined that there were still living werewolves in our modern era." she added.
"What do you mean by that, Grandma? Are they really real?" Fei asked again, confused.
"They were real," Mom replied. "There were stories passed from generation to generation about werewolves, and our line of family has that kind of past." She shared something that made me stop hugging her and face her.
"Are you saying the truth, Mom? But I thought those kinds of stories were not true. That they were just stories made up of our descendants." I commented.
"She is. The stories were not made up; that's the truth. We are supposed to share it from generation to generation, but since it's been a long time since your Mom and I decided to not tell you about it," Grandma explained. "We are living in a modern era and we thought that they did not exist already. I also do not think that we still have that blood running through our veins. My grandparents did not end up with wolves, they decided to stop it and got married to normal people."
"Do you think it's weird and hate it?" Grandma asked me and Fei.
Fei nodded. "I think it is weird, but I don't hate it. This just proves how the world does have a lot of things we can't explain, and that's normal. We can't even explain scientific things, as well as the ghost, so half human, half werewolf is not that big to me." she answered calmly.
How could Fei accept that kind of thing so quickly?
"There are a lot of things I experienced and learned in my work. I can accept things like this." She told me when she caught me staring at her.
"How about you, Sunny?" Grandma asked.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I think it's too much for me, Grandma. I am trying to understand it but it is still not processing for me." I replied.
"It's okay. You do not have to accept it," Grandma said, rubbing my back. "It's for you to decide whether you still want to be with him, and Steven knows that."
We stayed quiet after that and continued watching the drama. We were not able to watch it properly because we had our own drama.
After sharing what was weighing on my heart for days, I feel better. It feels like the thorn was picked out and I am able to breathe properly again.
Although I learned something about our generation, I did not imagine that it was not that simple.
When the drama we were watching ended, Mom sent me to my bed after making me drink some milk.
"I am thankful and happy that you decided to tell us your problem. We have been waiting for you to do that. Keeping it alone will make you suffer. You do not have to keep it to yourself. We are here." As she sat on my bed, Mom said.
"Thank you, Mom. I am so very blessed that I have you." I told her.
"We, too," Mom said, smiling at me. "But what will you do about that?" she said, pointing at my heart.
"I do not know, Mom. I am still processing the information and trying to accept it, but I am still worried about them. I still want to know how they are. They were wounded to protect me. I can also say that they meant no harm." I shared what I was feeling.
Mom nodded. "I can also tell that they were not bad and were trying to live like us. I guess they were having a hard time keeping the secret. When Steven sent you home while you were sleeping, he kept on saying sorry to me. He can't even look at me directly." she shared.
"He can't tell you that he is like that because he is afraid of your reaction. Maybe he does not want you to be scared of him. No one will have the guts to tell their secret to the people they love if it ends like this, right?"
"For now, try to understand the situation and learn how to accept it slowly. While doing that, you also have to understand where they stand. I know it is very hard, but do not throw away the time you spent with him and his family. They are kind and they meant no harm to us, so I think they deserved to be loved by us." Mom explained.
I hugged my mom tightly. "Thank you, Mom. I love you. I did not regret being your daughter." I told her.
"Me too." She replied as she patted my back. "Ah, right. Before they go, Steven told me that he wrote something in your notebook and wants me to remind you because you might not be able to notice it right away." she added.
"When you are ready, open it and decide whether you want to read it or not. It's for you to decide on your own. You have to learn and make decisions on your own. We need to learn as we grow old, and it will help us in the future. You do not have to rush everything. It takes time for everything. Do it on your own. If you need help, just run to us. We are willing to help you."
"I will, Mom. Thank you."
"Now, go to sleep. Rest your mind and heart! I will go now. Have a good sleep. Good night." Mom said as she walked out of my room.
I sighed as I laid back on my bed.
"They are right. There are a lot of things we can't explain."
"I need to accept things and learn. After that, if I am okay, I will have the courage to talk to him again."
"I can take it slowly, like what Mom said a while ago. I do not have to rush myself. I need to fully understand and accept everything, so that if we meet again, I will not run and be scared."
"I am not planning to run away in the first place. I thought that he was still him and that does not change anything aside from that he is a wolf, right?"
People have their own secrets and, as much as they want, they will try their best to hide them. It might be their reason too. If I was like them, I would do the same thing. I am afraid that they might avoid me and be scared of me.
I will try to overcome my fear.
This is the least I can do.
Steven was with me through the up and down. He helped me to be more confident and did not let me down.
It's time for me to do the same.Download Novelah App
