The next day arrived, and we were all back to our usual routine, immersed in our work. The office was buzzing with activity, each employee focused on their tasks, trying to meet the deadlines. I was engrossed in my work, typing away on my computer, when I heard a familiar voice behind me. "Hey, Gabriel! Got a minute?" Ryan asked, approaching me with a file in his hand. His voice was cheerful, and I could tell he was in a good mood. He had a spring in his step, and his eyes were sparkling with excitement. I turned around, smiling, and took the file from him. "What's this?" I asked, curious. The file was thick, and I wondered what it could be. I flipped through the pages, scanning the contents. "Just some documents you needed to see," Ryan replied, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "But that's not the real reason I'm here." He leaned against my desk, his body language relaxed and casual. He crossed his arms over his chest, looking pleased with himself. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? What's the real reason?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. I leaned back in my chair, interested in hearing what Ryan had to say. Ryan grinned, his smile spreading across his face. "My cousin's getting engaged this weekend, and I'm hosting the party. And I'm not asking you, I'm telling you - you're coming." His tone was playful, but I could tell he was serious. He was determined to get me to attend the party. I laughed, feeling a sense of playful coercion. "Oh, really? I don't have a choice?" I asked, pretending to be annoyed. I shook my head, chuckling. Ryan shook his head, his grin growing wider. "Nope. You're one of my closest friends, and I need you there to make fun of me...I mean, to celebrate with me." He chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. He was clearly enjoying himself. I chuckled, feeling a sense of camaraderie with Ryan. "Alright, alright. I'll be there. But only because I don't want to hear your complaints for the next month." I joked, pretending to be reluctant. Ryan whooped, pumping his fist in the air. "Yes! I knew I could count on you. It's going to be a blast, trust me." He was clearly excited, and I couldn't help but feel caught up in his enthusiasm. I smiled, feeling a sense of anticipation. "I'm looking forward to it. What time should I be there?" I asked, wanting to make sure I got the details right. Ryan pulled out his phone, checking the details. "The party's at 3 pm on Saturday. And don't even think about being late." He warned, his tone mock-serious. He raised an eyebrow, daring me to disobey. I nodded, making a mental note. "I'll be there, punctual and ready to party." I promised, smiling. Ryan grinned, clapping me on the back. "That's the spirit. Now, get back to work, slacker." He teased, walking away with a chuckle. I laughed, shaking my head, and returned to my work, feeling a sense of excitement for the upcoming party. I was looking forward to celebrating with Ryan and his family, and I knew it was going to be a fun and memorable event. Upon getting home, I couldn't shake off the thoughts of the upcoming engagement party. My mind kept wandering to the possibilities of what could happen, and one thing was certain - Stephanie would be there. The same Stephanie who had turned down my proposal, leaving me heartbroken and vulnerable. But I knew that her rejection didn't mean she would cut ties with Ryan, our mutual friend. In fact, through me, Ryan and Stephanie had become close friends, which meant she would definitely be present at the party that weekend. As I sat on my couch, lost in thought, I couldn't help but think about how awkward it would be to see Stephanie again. We hadn't spoken since the proposal, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Would she be friendly and cordial, or would she be distant and cold? The uncertainty was eating away at me, and I knew I needed to find a way to distract myself. That's when I remembered Sarah, the young lady I met at the bar a few nights ago. We had exchanged numbers, and I had been thinking about her ever since. She was charming and witty, with a beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. I had enjoyed our conversation immensely, and I found myself wanting to spend more time with her. I decided to pick up my phone and contact her, hoping to find a distraction from my thoughts about Stephanie and the party. I dialed her number, and she answered on the first ring. "Hey, Gabriel! How's it going?" she asked, her voice cheerful and warm. "It's going great, thanks for asking," I replied, trying to sound casual. "I was wondering if you're busy this weekend?" Sarah paused for a moment before responding. "Actually, I'm not. I was thinking of just relaxing at home. Why, do you have something in mind?" I smiled, feeling a sense of excitement. "I do, actually. I have somewhere I wish to take you to. It's a party, and I think you'd really enjoy it." "A party, huh?" Sarah repeated, her tone curious. "What kind of party?" "It's an engagement party," I explained. "My friend Ryan's cousin is getting engaged, and he's hosting the party. It's going to be a lot of fun, and I thought it would be great if you could come with me." Sarah laughed. "An engagement party, huh? That sounds like a blast. I'd love to come with you, Gabriel." I grinned, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Great, I'll pick you up at 2 pm on Saturday then?" "Sounds perfect," Sarah replied. "I'm looking forward to it, Gabriel. Thanks for inviting me." We chatted for a few more minutes, making plans for the party and getting to know each other better. As we talked, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. I had no idea what the party would bring, but I knew that with Sarah by my side, I would be able to face whatever came my way.
