23. Cinema

"Do you have free time?" asked Lea as she pulled out a dining chair.
Jack, who was eating, stopped his sacred ritual for a moment. "Why, is the bathroom clogged again?" The last time when Lea asked him something like this. She had asked him to fix the clogged bathroom drain.
"Honestly, until this moment, I still have a hard time guessing what's in that head of yours. How could you ask me back like that. Are you traumatized from fixing the bathroom drain?"
"What else? There's no way you could ask me if I have free time or not. Because you want to take me out to watch a movie together for example? Oh my God that's fiction," Jack babbled.
Lea's eyes rounded perfectly. "How could you possibly know that? Did you read my mind?"
"Huh what do you mean?"
"Ah, let's not argue unnecessarily. Tell you what, just shut up and listen to me talk. Jack, Nana has given me two movie tickets which means I have to give one of them to you."
"Nana is that quirky friend of yours? I don't know why she likes to invite me to come with you guys so much. Does she have some kind of obsession after failing to get married?"
PLAK
Lea slapped Jack's lips with her house slippers. "Don't talk nonsense. I don't know why she asked you either. But I'm sure you won't be able to resist. Because she asked us to watch your favorite horror movie. I'm sure you don't want to miss it."
Jack's eyes lit up like a kid who just got a motorcycle. "Okay. Then I will."

Jack was pretty sure that Nana, who was a close friend of his wife, had a unique personality. And of course the overly creative woman would always have unique things that she could voluntarily share with others. Take this example. The movie invitation that Jack originally thought would take place normally as usual, but what happened was unexpected. Instead, Nana bought them tickets to a drive-in theater.
"Being stuck in a car with you for a long time like this. It honestly makes me hot," Lea grumbled.
"Do you think I'd like it too?" Jack said quickly.
"Shhht don't nag Lea, I'm coming with you too. If you feel bothered just focus on the movie," said Nana from the passenger seat.
Meanwhile, Jack who sat in the driver's seat sighed heavily. The women around him were really too unique.
That night, at the drive-in movie theater, Jack felt himself trapped in a scenario he never imagined. Lea sat next to him, with a cheerful Nana sitting in the passenger seat. Drive-in theaters have a charm all their own. Started in the 1930s in America, drive-ins allow audiences to enjoy movies from the comfort of their own cars. There is usually a large screen in the middle of a large field with rows of cars parked neatly. All the audience had to do was tune in to a certain radio frequency to hear the movie playing. This brilliant idea had reached its peak in the 1950s, becoming a popular spot for dates and family entertainment.
However, that night, Jack didn't feel the least bit comfortable. The three of them were watching a classic horror movie, something Jack would normally enjoy. But, with Lea being a very timid person who hates horror movies but has the prestige to admit it. And with Nana sitting in the passenger seat, the situation clearly turned into chaos.
The movie has just started when the first suspenseful scene has Lea screaming and kicking the dashboard of the car. Jack almost jumped out of the driver's seat. "Oh my God... Lea! Calm down, that's just the title of the movie. You haven't even seen the killer there!" Jack exclaimed, trying to calm Lea who already looked scared as if she was about to be eaten by a werewolf.
Lea tried to calm herself down, but every time there was a scary scene, she would scream and shake her chair like a debt collector. In fact, there was one scene where she reflexively grabbed Jack's arm who was holding the steering wheel. "Lea, please! I need this hand to drive!" Jack complained, trying to release Lea's grip who was scared to death. It felt like his arm was about to break. The woman's strength was so strong. Jack was pretty sure that Lea's power could be used to cut down a tree.
Nana, who was sitting in the passenger seat, seemed to be enjoying the excitement. She laughed out loud at Lea who kept making a scene. "This is more exciting than the movie itself," Nana commented, holding back her laughter.
The culmination of the chaos occurred when Lea, perhaps because she was too tense, accidentally let out a rather loud fart. The pungent odor immediately filled the cabin of the car. Jack almost fainted, while Nana laughed until she coughed. "Lea, you really made this movie an unforgettable experience," Nana said, trying to catch her breath between laughs.
Jack, who was already catching his breath, tried to open the car window to get some fresh air. "Lea, you almost made me lose half of my life," Jack said in a tired and resigned tone.
However, Lea still couldn't calm down. Every scary scene made her scream, kick, or shake the car. At one point, Jack even considered changing the radio frequency to a music station to distract Lea from the horror movie. But, of course, that would only make the situation more chaotic.
When the movie finally ended, Jack felt like he had been through an incredibly thrilling adventure, outdoing the main character in the movie he was watching. "Well, that was the craziest movie experience of my life," Jack said as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Lea, who still looked scared, tried to catch her breath. "Oh sorry, but you know that I don't like anything that has to do with ghosts," Lea said with a trembling voice.
Nana, who had started to calm down from her laughter, patted Lea's shoulder. "It's okay, Lea. It'll make our night more exciting."
"Your head's up! I almost lost my life," Jack grumbled.
"Oh come on, don't be so stiff it's funny. This is the first time I've seen a horror movie with a fun comedic feel." Nana guiltlessly replied to Jack's words as if she really enjoyed the uproar that had occurred.
Crazy! Jack thought.

On the way home, Nana couldn't help but chuckle as she recalled the chaos that had just occurred. "You two are indeed a unique couple," she said with a smile.
Lea snorted. "I don't want this experience to happen again. What's the point of watching horror movies?"
Nana, who was sitting in the passenger seat, smiled nosily. "It's because you're scared. If you weren't scared everything would be fine. But... ah obviously it wouldn't be as exciting if you weren't scared at all."
"I'm suspicious of you Nana. You've been planning something like this for your own amusement," Jack interrupted irritably. Just imagine him having to restrain himself in such a super mess.
"Don't be like that. Well since you two have accepted my invitation so well. Then I'll treat you to dinner. Cheer up a little!" Nana exclaimed in a cheerful tone of voice.
Jack and Lea could only sigh. Both of them were tired. In contrast to Nana who was so cheerful and enjoying everything that had happened.
