Chapter 40 THE TRUTH PART 3
Luna pushes Leo's wheelchair through the hospital garden. The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden glow over the flowers and trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
"Thank you, Luna," Leo said softly, breaking the silence. He looked up at her, his eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and sorrow. Luna smiled gently, continuing to push the wheelchair at a leisurely pace.
"I should be the one thanking you because you're willing to fight to recover for my sake."
"I… don't remember much about us, Luna. My memory is becoming more and more blurry. I can't even remember our meeting at the cafe…" Leo's voice was faint.
Luna stopped the wheelchair and walked around to face him. She knelt down so they were eye to eye.
"It's fine. I remember everything. So you can ask me anything you don't know. I will tell you everything," Luna replied, her eyes filling with tears. She looked at Leo's pale and lifeless face. Luna took Leo's hand and kissed it for a long time. Then, she continued pushing his wheelchair and stopped near a bench.
"Luna, can you continue your story? I want to know what happened next. What do you mean by everything changed?" Leo asked weakly. Luna glanced at Mark, who was sitting not far from them. The man faithfully followed Leo everywhere, even though Leo no longer remembered him.
"Leo, I had an accident, fell into a coma, and lost my memory. Actually, that wasn't the first time I lost my memory," Luna said, knowing Mark was listening and seeing his surprised reaction.
"What? What do you mean?"
"That night after you confessed your feelings to me, I was so happy and promised to give you an answer the next day after rejecting Adam's confession for the fifth time. I planned to tell Adam about my feelings for you first, and that was my biggest mistake. After meeting you, I went back to the café to pick up something I had left behind, and suddenly I heard a woman screaming. It was my fault for being too brave. I went to check, and I saw…" Luna's voice trembled. She closed her eyes, recalling the dark event.
"What did you see, Luna?" Leo asked impatiently.
"I… I saw Adam killing someone…" Luna said, her voice shaking.
"What?" Leo's eyes widened.
"I really saw him stabbing a woman repeatedly. I was so scared, and when I tried to run away, someone else hit me on the head with something hard. I passed out and woke up the next day in the hospital."
"Where was I at that time? Why… why don't I remember?" Leo pressed his head, trying to recall.
"We were abroad for two weeks on a business trip," Mark interjected. Leo looked up at Mark, his forehead wrinkled.
"You…"
"My name is Mark. I'm your friend, Leo, and I'm your trusted person," Mark introduced himself, and Luna realized this was the tenth time Mark had introduced himself to Leo.
"So we weren't in the country?"
Mark nodded.
"When I woke up, I didn't remember anything about you, Leo. I remember the doctor telling me that I might have erased those memories myself to protect myself. Unfortunately, I also forgot everything related to you. Adam confessed his feelings to me again, and I agreed without thinking, remembering that Adam had been by my side for a long time and had been waiting for me. Not long after that, Adam and I got engaged."
"That's why you ignored Leo after he returned from abroad. I remember how desperate he was to meet you, but you didn't want to see him. When he confessed his feelings to you again, you told him you didn't have any feelings for him. Leo came home heartbroken, and since then, he went to the cafe every day just to see you," Mark said.
Luna nodded, tears streaming down her face.
"It's okay. It's all in the past," Leo said, wiping Luna's tears with his fingers.
"But I don't understand. Why did you say Leo raped you, and why did you two sleep together? I had a family matter, and when I came back, I saw Leo sitting in the dark with his face badly bruised and bleeding, as if he had been beaten up. He said he had done something terrible to you. I investigated but couldn't find any answers. Leo kept silent and took all the blame. What really happened?" Mark asked.
"Leo didn't rape me. It was all my fault." Luna looked down.
"If he didn't rape you, why did you say he did?" Mark asked, increasingly confused.
"Actually…"
"Luna, do you want to go to the club with me after work?" Clara asked when she came to see Luna at the cafe that night.
"Club? But I'm not interested in places like that.
"Don't be so naïve, can you? At least come once in your life. It's on me," Clara said, raising her eyebrows.
"Okay. But just for a little while, alright?" Luna agreed after some thought.
"That's my friend!"
"Do you want to eat anything? You can't just have a drink."
"I'm on a diet. By the way, did you notice the guy behind us?" Clara whispered. Luna glanced quickly; their eyes met, and she looked away quickly. She nodded.
"I noticed he comes to this cafe every day to see you. Do you know him?" Clara asked.
"I think his name is Leo. He's Adam's brother. I don't really know him well," Luna replied.
"Adam's brother? Are you serious? Maybe he's your stalker. The way he looks at you is really weird, like something is going on."
"He told me he likes me. After I rejected him, he came here every day," Luna admitted.
"Woah, I told you. Don't you want to report him to the police? What if he does something?"
Clara looked worried. Luna glanced at the man again. He was busy working on his laptop. She didn't know why, but she felt a strange feeling every time she looked at him. However, she didn't know why. Adam also didn't want to tell her anything about Leo. In fact, Adam had told her to chase Leo away if he came to the cafe. But why to such an extent?
"Luna, are you listening to me?"
"What?"
"Ugh, I said, don't you want to report him to the police? What if he's dangerous?"
"Just leave him alone. Besides, I already told Adam. He'll handle it," Luna said as she walked to the kitchen. She glanced at Leo once more, and as usual, her heart ached. Luna stood in the kitchen, lost in thought. She stole another glance at Leo. For some reason, she felt calm whenever their eyes met. But her heart ached, a feeling she couldn't explain. Did she know Leo before this?
The noisy atmosphere of the nightclub filled the dance floor. Red and blue lights flickered, casting shadows across the dark space. It was crowded that night since it was the weekend. The beat of the remix songs made everyone dance happily with their partners and friends nearby, either embracing or moving like they were lost in the moment.
At the bar, a line of patrons waited for drinks, shouting their orders to the overworked bartenders who moved with practiced efficiency, mixing and pouring without missing a beat. Glasses clinked and spilled as they were passed from hand to hand.
Luna and Clara sat at the corner table. Clara handed a drink to Luna, who hesitated to take it.
"Drink up. It's your first time here, right?"
Luna hesitated, just staring at the glass in her hand.
"But Clara, I don't like drinking alcohol. Can I not drink?"
Clara exhaled harshly.
"Don't be so innocent, can you? We're here to have fun. What's the point of coming if you don't drink? How about just a little sip?" Clara coaxed.
"But…"
"Oh, please. Just one sip. You've never tried it before, right? Just one sip. Please…." Clara pleaded. After much urging, Luna finally agreed.
"Let's drink together."
Their glasses clinked, a clear, ringing sound that cut through the fading noise of the club. Luna took a long sip, closing her eyes as she tasted the bitter alcohol.
"Good girl! Finally, you've tried alcohol. How is it? Delicious, right?" Clara laughed.
"You stay here and relax. I'm going to dance for a bit. If any guys come to flirt with you, give them your number. Don't be stingy. I'm off. Bye!" Clara disappeared into the crowd of people dancing. Luna felt the area around her spinning. Gradually, she became more intoxicated. Luna took out her phone and dialed a number, and the caller's voice came on the line.
"Leo!" Luna called out, already drunk.
"Luna? What's all that noise? Where are you?"
"Leo… I miss you…"
"Where are you, Luna? Tell me!"
"Guess it? Find me if you can!" Luna laughed drunkenly.
"Stay right there. Don't go anywhere. Wait until I get there. Don't go with anyone. Just wait right there, okay?"
"Hurry and find me!" Luna laughed loudly before her head fell onto the table. She didn't know how long she had been unconscious. She only woke up when someone grabbed her arm.
"Luna, wake up. What are you doing here?"
The voice made Luna open her eyes again.
"Oh, look who's here. You found me?" Luna laughed with a flushed face.
"Let's go home, Luna. You shouldn't be here." Leo pulled Luna away from the club and put her in his car.
"Where's your house, Luna?" Leo asked as he started the engine.
"Where's my house? Over there? Here? There?" Luna laughed to herself. Leo sighed.
"Hold on, I'll call Adam." Leo took out his phone, but Luna quickly snatched it and threw it out the window. He didn't even notice when she opened the window. Leo was stunned.
"Luna, why…"
"Why Adam?" Luna asked.
"What?"
"You like me, right? Why did you let me go?" Luna asked, now crying.
"You're very drunk, Luna. Let's go home." Leo drove off. After weighing his options, he decided to take Luna to his apartment, as he didn't know where Luna lived.
"You're taking me to your house?" Luna laughed as Leo helped her into his apartment. He brought her into his room and sat her on the bed.
"Now, you sleep and rest. I'll take you home tomorrow. Sleep well. Good night," Leo said. Before he could leave, Luna grabbed the edge of his shirt.
"Don't leave me. I'm scared to be alone," Luna said softly.
"I'm not going anywhere, Luna. You can find me in the next room if you need anything. Sleep, okay?" Leo laid Luna down. As before, she grabbed his hand.
"Luna, sleep now." Leo released her hand and started to leave.
"Once again, you're running away from me." Those words made Leo stop walking.
"I'm not running away from you, Luna. You're drunk. I just want you to rest and sleep. Don't think about anything and just sleep." Leo replied and then felt arms wrap around his waist. He was stunned.
"Luna?" Leo turned around. He tried to remove her hands from his waist, but she suddenly kissed him on the lips. Her hands, which had been around his waist, moved to hold his neck. Leo tried to push her away.
"Luna, please!" Leo held both of her hands.
"Don't do something you'll regret, Luna. You're engaged to Adam. You shouldn't do this." Leo reminded her. He knew she was drunk and couldn't think straight.
The clear tears falling from Luna's eyes made Leo clench his jaw.
"You reject me... once again, you reject me. You never notice me. No matter what I do, you never see me," Luna cried even harder.
"What are you talking about, Luna? You're starting to talk nonsense because you're drunk. I should call Adam and have him pick you up before anything happens." Leo replied, trying to reason with her. Luna held onto Leo's shirt, not wanting him to go anywhere.
"I don't want him… I never liked him. I only want you…" Luna whispered, standing on her tiptoes to kiss Leo again. Her kisses became more dominant, and Leo found it increasingly difficult to control himself. Finally, Leo gave in and returned Luna's kiss.
Luna's scream that morning woke Leo from a deep sleep. He opened his eyes wide and saw Luna crying in the corner of the bed. Leo looked down at himself, realizing he was shirtless, and his mind flashed back to the events of the previous night.
"Luna, this isn't what you think. I…"
"You raped me!" Luna cried, covering her naked body with the comforter. Leo ran his hands over his face, wondering how he had lost control. The bedroom door was being knocked on loudly. Leo exhaled slowly, opened the door, and saw Adam standing there with a face full of anger. His eyes widened when he saw Luna crying.
"What did you do to her? What did you do to her, huh?" Adam yelled. He started punching Leo repeatedly. Leo didn't retaliate and allowed himself to be hit by Adam.
"You know Luna and I are getting married! Why? Why?!" Adam punched harder.
"Tell me now, Leo. Tell me before I kill you! Why did you do this to me? Why?!"
"I… I'm sorry… I'm wrong. It's my fault. You… you can do whatever you want to me. I'm sorry. It's my fault…" Leo repeatedly apologized.
Adam released Leo and gathered Luna's clothes scattered on the floor, wrapping her in the comforter.
"Don't show your face to me ever again," Adam said before leaving. Leo ran his hands over his face, regretting his actions and how he had taken advantage of Luna's drunken state. Leo got up and sat on the sofa, lost in his thoughts.
"Boss? Are you in there? Why is it so dark?" Mark turned on the lights and was shocked to see Leo sitting alone in the dark.
"Have you been sitting here all day? What happened, boss? Why is your face all bruised? Who did you fight with?" Mark asked rapidly.
"I did something I shouldn't have done, Mark…"
"What do you mean, boss?"
"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have done that. It's my fault."Download Novelah App
