Chapter 25
SABRINAH
It's been four weeks since my unexpected and emotional reconciliation with Zhander and Ellie, and a lot has happened since then.
Zhander and my former boss, Mr. Smith, has now started their new project, the ongoing construction site is the living proof to that. Mr. Smith and his fiancee, Jane, tied the knots already just a week ago to which, of course I attended with Zhander as my plus one.
The news that Mr. Smith knew about Zhander all along shocks him, from my cowardly leaving home till our melodramatic reconciliation, Mr. Smith knew. That explains why he was holding my hands at the dinner, the night Zhander showed up. Every time I remember that night, and Zhander's jealousy confession, I can't help but smile. That memory never really gets old to me.
"You're beaming, again."
Guilty. I look up to Zhander, and I feel my smile reaching to my ears, if that's even real. His hand, with a glass of my favorite homemade coffee, made by him of course, extended to me, his free hand snakes through my clothes and pinch softly the bare skin on my waist.
"Good morning," he says, peppering me with kisses.
I chuckled. "It's not morning anymore." I said when I caught a glance at the time. "It's already 12:35."
"Doesn't matter." He nuzzles my neck, earning soft giggles from me. "I love you." The butterflies in my stomach go wild again, like every other time he says that exact same three words. He always has, and always will have that effect on me. Like it was the first time he said those words to me.
This became our routine now: always snuggling, whispering sweet nothings to each other, waking up entangled with each others body, more snuggling, him making coffee for each other, more and more snuggling, and exchanging 'I love yous'. I'm so used to this, to him always being on my side that I can't think of a future without him in it. Everywhere we go now, we go together, always have each other.
"I love you too." I finally said, overwhelmed with happiness. "I have a surprise for you." I whispers, stealing his lips to mine.
"You do?" He removes his hands from my waist, turned me around to face him. I could dance just by staring at his shining eyes filled with happiness and excitement. I smiled and nodded my head. "I do, too."
"What is it?" I asked, curious. He pulled away from me entirely.
"If I tell you, it wouldn't be a surprise anymore, would it?" I smack his hands slightly.
"I could tell you mine now. Are you ready?"
"No. Hold on, don't tell me yet." He scurries to the bathroom, his steps echoing to the room. A few seconds later, I hear the water running.
"What are you doing ?"I followed him inside the bathroom and finds him drawing me a bath. He flies out and back to the bedroom, rampaging my closet. "Zhander. Do you not want to hear about my surprise?"
"No. I mean, of course, but not before I tell you mine. Or asks?" He shakes his head, stare me for a second, then continues to rampage my closet.Okay, what's happening to him now? He's acting weird. Nervous? Excited? I'm not sure. When he sees what he's looking for at my closet, he blows a breath of relief. Intrigued, I walked towards the closet, but he closes it before I can even steal a glance.
He walks to me and shoves me back towards the bathroom. "We have a reservation at Emily's diner at 2:30."
"Okay. " I said, still confused about his actions.
"You'll hear my surprise there." Okay, now that's something. Emily's diner has been our favorite place for dinner, partly because of its romantic ambiance, but mostly because they have the best and almost all of my favorite food . We discovered it few days after one week of living together. We go there once every week, so this shouldn't excites me. But Emily's diner and a surprise from Zhander is something, right?
By exactly two, I am ready. My makeup was on, with my dress chosen by Zhander himself. I don't know what's so special about this dress that he so cutely demanded I wear. Zhander was ready too, with his perfectly tailored gray suit and his hair was perfectly styled as well. He looks so handsome. And he's mine.
On our way to the place, Zhander was on his phone the whole time, texting. Like I said, weird. He's usually not like this. He would usually hold my hand and kiss the back of it, and tell me I'm beautiful. He hasn't even said a single word to me since at the house , just sweet smiles. I'm starting to think this surprise isn't going to be good.
"Have I told you, you look beautiful today?" Zhander says finally, his phone safely tucked in his pocket.
"No, you didn't. And I'm starting to think I'm not gonna like this surprise you have for me." I told him, pinning him on my glare.
"Don't say that. You're making me even more nervous." I raises a brow. "You look extravagant tonight, wifey. The most beautiful woman on earth." That makes my eyes water. Damn this watery eyes and hormones.
"Okay. Let's go now and see what you have for me." I unbuckled my seatbelt and reached my door to open but Zhander stopped me. I watch him walk over my side and open my door for me, offering his hand for me. So gentleman.
When we entered the entrance, I was confused. The place was empty, which makes it even weirder because I saw cars parked outside. The tables are gone, only one left at the center, with candles on it which gives the only source of light in here.
When out of nowhere, like magic, the aisle lights up one after another. Then Zhander hands me a bouquet of red roses. Where did he even get that? I didn't see him hiding it in the car earlier. Clueless, I accepted and smells it.
"Thank you." I say sweetly.
We walked towards the table, hand in hand, with me clinging the flowers to my chest. Zhander pulled my chair for me to sit in before he settled himself. Then, soft music reach my ears as a waiter approach our table. He pours us each a glass of wine that looks so good, and probably tastes so good too. I mumbled a quick 'thank you' when he was done and reach for my glass of water instead. Zhander didn't notice, he's so busy with his glass of wine.
When the second music started, Zhander stood up and placed his hand on the air. "Can I have this dance, gorgeous." I roll my eyes at him playfully but took his hand nonetheless. This moment is so... I don't even have a word for it. I feel like I am in the movie, with Zhander as the man I am destined to be with.
We danced for a few minutes, just swinging skin to skin. At the last part of the music, Zhander turns me around, my back now against his firm yet warm and comforting chest.
"I love you," he says. I tilted my head and leans in to claim his mouth for a kiss. It was supposed to be just a brief and light but Zhander deepens the kiss. Only when we were out of breath did he break the kiss.
A single petal falling stole my attention away from Zhander's eyes. Then two more fell, then five. Flower petals rain. I laughed. Who would entertain the idea of flower petals raining? Zhander, of course. And me. I love it.
I look up just in time as more and more petals fell. My laughter gets louder. I pulled away from Zhander, and with both my hands in the air, I twirled, like a kid showcasing her new dress.
I saw Zhander beam in a smile, then next thing he did, he reached something from his pocket and fell down on his knees. And when he opened it, the whole world stopped. Literally. There's only me and Zhander on his knees, flower petals surrounding around us.
"Sabrinah Ellington Taylor. You are the most beautiful woman on earth. The strongest woman I've known and the only perfect woman for me. I have loved you since the moment I set eyes on you that night in the club three years ago. Love at first sight as they call it. I even asked you to marry me after that night. " With teary eyes, I smiled. Yeah, he did. "I know we're already married, and I was very lucky to have you.
But I want my to do it again. I want you to marry me for no other reason but your love for me. I want to have a very big and happy family with you. Will you marry me again, for love this time?"
I pretended to think for a minute just to tease him, when I really, badly, wanted to say 'yes' before he could even finish his speech. The thought of having a very big and happy family with him, did something in me. Excitement and thrill.
Putting him out of his misery, I breathe a 'yes', my eyes blurry with inevitable tears. My eyes remain to him as he slides the ring to my finger.
"We might have started that 'very big and happy family'," I said just as loud party poppers exploded the room. Standing at the corner are Ellie, with Mark on her side, Mr. Smith and his wife, and Zhander's father. As they come closer to where Zhander and I were standing, I focused on Zhander.
"I'm pregnant." I announced, literally to everyone. "We're having a baby." I put his hand on my little bump. He was stunned for five seconds, not breathing and not moving.
"You're pregnant?" He whispers. I answered with a full smile. Then he left me in the air. "We're having a baby!" He leans in to kiss my mouth for a very brief moment and then he faces everyone, caresses our baby bump. Then proudly , he says, "We're having a baby."
"We heard that Zhander." Ellie chimes in. "Congratulations."
Mr Smith walks to me with his wife beaming. "Congratulations." He gives me a side hug.
"This calls for a double celebration." Jane, his wife said. "Congratulations to both, honey."
"Thank you. "
Zhander and Mr Smith back-slap hug each other. It's a bit awkward for them still because they're bromance just started, but eventually they'll be best buddies and they wouldn't even know it.
"I still can't believe we're pregnant." Zhander says finding his place beside me again. He rounded his hands around my waist.
"Believe it." I chuckled.
"We're having a baby." His eyes are bright and happy as he says it again. "We're having a baby."
"Yes."
"And we'll have more babies. A big and happy family."
A chuckle escape my mouth. "Yeah. That too."
We failed to keep our baby and a family two years ago, but now we won't let that happen again. My late baby and my parents are together now, watching over us. Even apart, they will always be in my heart. I know they want us to be happy, and we'll do just that: be happy. With Zhander as my husband, a best husband, and a good father, I know we can face everything. Forever.
"I love you." I whispered to him.
"I love you more." He claims my mouth for a hundred times, but who's counting right? No words would be enough to show how much we love each other, but for now, we'll settle for that.
