Chapter 122: SIDE STORY 1

-The new emperor's crowning ceremony and wedding-
"Why must the two big events be held in a day?" Yui uttered, lying down on the sofa with only her robes on, watching the bride being attended to.
"It's because Daphne is also yawning to get married as soon as possible," Maylene answered facing the mirror.
Rolling her eyes, Daphne who is also sitting on the sofa answered, "But now that Yui is back, I don't think I can get married this year."
"Why are you in a rush? you are still young." Yui asked still not moving.
"Because mother restricts me to meet my dear Rhodes! She even set a curfew whenever we are out on a date."
"It's because men are wolves."
As soon as Karin's voice echoed inside the dressing room Yui and Daphne stood from their seat.
Her glare made the two princesses quiet, lowering their heads a bit like criminals who are being caught.
"And what are the princesses doing here instead of preparing yourselves?"
Watching the two from head to toe, Karin furrowed at the sight of the two princesses still in their night attires.
"If you may please move out now!" A cold piercing tone sent chills all over the princess's body and the two quickly cleared out of the room.
Maylene giggled to oversee the two princesses from the mirror and Karin then took phases towards her.
All the maids were trembling to have the empress dowager's presence however, the tension lightened up as soon as she smiled at Maylene.
"I do not have any words to say, but I only hope that you'll be the happiest lady in this empire not only today."
"Of course, I am, mother," Maylene replied with her utmost sincerity.
Karin may not have been happy because of her forced marriage, but still, she was very much happier to see the young generation have to fulfill their heart's desires.
She may not be fortunate but she wanted to at least let the young ones not have the same fate as her.
Also, she cannot help but also fell in love with Maylene's grace and bravery in how she was the lady to heal her son's wounds that she, as a mother had caused.
Gently, Karin placed her hands above Maylene's shoulder and whispered, "Thank you."
Bang! Bang!
The loud rang of bells echoed all over the empire as the newlywed walked outside the cathedral.
"Long live the new emperor and empress!"
The people chanted as they greet the couples outside with petals majestically falling from the sky.
Darrion did not waste that moment, lifting Maylene in his arms and kissing her thoroughly.
Loud cheers echoed after and Maylene throw her bouquet above that with no other coincidences, it landed in Daphne's hands.
"It seems that the youngest princess will marry next," Yui uttered smiling beside Daphne's beet-red face.
Rhodes who stand next to her held her hand and their eyes went instantly to where Karin stood.
The pair of carnation eyes curved like a half-moon and nodded which extremely made the couple happy.
"Aren't you being benevolent?" Gael whispered to Yui but Yui just stole a kiss on his lips.
"You haven't proposed to me yet, Duke Gael."
Such remarks made Gael embarrassed covering his face with both of his palms.
How can he forget such an important thing?
The party proceeded that night at the palace as a banquet filled with sparkling gems and flowers with delicious delicacies on the table.
After having a meal, the new emperor and empress would have to greet all the nobles and delegates as part of the ceremony.
But even before Emperor Darrion could have his speech, Yui stood beside him which astounded everyone.
Only the empire's archmage has equal rights with the emperor and Yui has been exercising all her rights even on that important day.
"Ahem, please listen." Clapped her hands, Yui caught everyone's attention.
"It seems that the newlyweds are tired from preparing since last night, that's why I am hoping for everyone's understanding to let them off early tonight."
Stunned, Darrion and Maylene exchange looks at each other as if asking if anyone knew about Yui's interference.
But both of them not any of them knows about it.
"Well, isn’t this a very important night for the newlyweds? I guess we should all figure out that!"
Faces instantly turned red, everyone was embarrassed to hear Yui's words but the couple did not bother and laughed it off.
Darrion quickly carried Maylene, "Please enjoy the rest of the night! the empire's Archmage will be the one to fill our positions."
Quick on his feet the two run away from the hall and Karin just let it all off the hook.
"B-but your majesty?" Duke Quell followed a plea, however, Yui stood in front with arms crossed.
Glaring with her pair of golden eyes, she speaks before the nobles, "What's wrong? I am simply substituting his majesty to receive all your greetings and gifts."
A sharp gulp came at each of the aristocrat’s throats as they are now facing the person, they just slandered two years ago.
"O-of course we are all honored to meet the empire's Archmage," they replied lowering their heads yet they could feel the ominous smile smeared on Yui's face.
"Won't you stop her?" Rhodes asked Gael who is just staying still on the other side of the hall.
"If you want to taste her wrath then you should go ahead instead," Gael replied having a sip of wine in his glass.
Rhodes then replied shaking his head and drinking his wine.
"Is it all right to leave the hall like this?"
"Wouldn't this be good than Yui getting rampant and punishing those who slandered her?"
Maylene and Darrion laughed imagining Yui's image of destroying the noble's household.
"Shouldn't we stop thinking of anything else now?" Darrion uttered holding Maylene's waist while slowly laying her down on the bed.
Starting from eyes to nose down to her lips, the gap between their faces began to fade as the two of them fell into the heat of that night.
