57: Savannah

Chapter 57
It’s chaotic.
This is so fucked up.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN’T FIND HIM?!” I shouted at the top of my lungs. “How can you not find even just a single trace of my brother?!”
Stefano is missing.
Right after the explosion, all of our security men on standby in the area quickly ran to the station. They searched the interrogation room, but didn’t find Stefano — nor Patrick. It turns out, the explosion wasn’t a bomb explosion. It was some sort of smoke shit that explodes like a bomb but doesn’t damage like a bomb.
“I knew this was going to happen! This is why I told you that we shouldn’t have let him go!” I shouted.
“What can we do when we can’t stop him?! He’s the one who insisted!” Sylvester shouted back.
“I should have just locked him up!”
“Babe, calm down,” Cameron came and embraced me. “I deployed every personnel I could to find Stefano.”
“Did they take him? Why?”
“They probably took him. We’ll find him.”
I can’t think straight. The enemies took Stefano, what else — other than hurting him — will they do?
“What about Emily? Do you have a lead on where she could be?”
“Actually… we found her.” I pulled out of my husband’s embrace. “Just a few seconds after the explosion, I received her location report. She’s at her family’s house. I already sent our men to look after her. I told them not to approach her, because it might scare her. You… have to fetch her yourself.”
I nodded.
I have second thoughts on bringing Emily back in the middle of this chaos. The only thing that is clear to me is that she deserves to know what’s happening, and she needs to be in our custody. They managed to take Stefano who’s being guarded by countless people, what more of Emily who has no one by her side.
“I’ll go bring her. I don’t know if that’s what Stefano wants right now, but all I know is I have to protect my brother’s girl. Call me as soon as you find him.”
Cameron nodded before kissing me on my forehead.
I went out and drove to where Emily is. I stared at the empty house, with all lights turned off. I could only see a faint light coming from one room, and I know that’s where Emily is. By the looks of it, she’s using a flashlight instead of turning the lights. Probably realizing that it will attract attention to have the house lit up.
She ran away from that house after all.
But ended up running back to it.
I stepped out of the car and stood in front of the gate. I don’t know if I should ring the bell, because it might freak her out. Or would it be more terrifying if I just enter?
As I was walking back and forth, contemplating what to do, I heard a loud crashing sound and quickly panicked. I entered the house and ran upstairs as fast as I could.
I opened the door and found Emily sitting on the floor.
“What happened?! Are you hurt?! Who did this?! Did they find you?!” I bombarded her with questions, not realizing the shock I gave her. As I was panting, I realized she was staring at me, confused and dazed. “I-I… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I heard a loud noise and thought —”
“How did you find me? Is… Is he… Is Stefano —” I cut her off. I could sense hesitation, expectation, but also fear in her voice.
“Stefano… is not with me. I came to fetch you.”
She stood up. “Did he ask you?”
“Before we get there, are you okay? What was that noise?”
“I accidentally stumbled and bumped into a vase. It fell and it shattered.”
I sighed in relief. “Thank goodness. I thought —”
“What did you mean when you asked if they found me? Who would find me?”
I took a deep breath before answering. “There’s been an accident. I’ll fill you up on the way back home. I need to take you to safety first.”
“No.” Emily stepped back. “I won’t come back. I can’t”
“Emily, I don’t know what’s going on between you and my brother, but this isn’t really the right time —”
“I’m better off far from him. Far from you. Far from this place. I’m leaving, and nothing will change my mind.”
“Stefano is missing. They took him away.” Even if it’s dark, and the only light is from the moon, I could see the shock and worry in Emily’s face. “The reason I came here is not to force you to come back. I just… I just have to make sure you’re safe. My brother is missing, they managed to take him away even with the amount of security he has. Who knows what they could do to you? I can’t have my brother come back and find out that you got in danger while he’s missing.”
I took a deep breath, trying to be logical in this situation. Stefano and I grew up fighting and hating each other, and it took us time to grow up and make up. So, I don’t really know how his brain works. I don’t know what he would do in this situation. I don’t know what he would want me to do.
All I could do is be a decent adult and older sister.
“If you want to leave… then let me help you. I’ll send you away, where Stefano can’t find you. Just… Just let me make sure that you’ll leave safely.”
“Is Stefano —”
“We’re looking for him. We’ll find him no matter what. I didn’t come here to make you responsible or anything. None of this is your fault.” I softly chuckled. “Stefano is a Harris. We have countless enemies, so don’t act all devine and blame yourself. If there’s anyone who can kill him, that’s me. Me only.”
It took a couple of minutes before Emily found her answer.
“I… need to see him.”
