Chapter 21 Honesty

On a pleasant evening, Harris finally decided it was time to have a conversation with their friends about his relationship with Isabella. He believed they deserved to know.

Beside him in the café that Isabella worked before, Jamie, Sammy, and David all wore matching expressions of confusion. "So, are you two sleeping together?" Jamie asked, his curiosity evident.

"I kick in my sleep, and Harris is a terrible snorer," Isabella jokingly informed them, leaving it at that. Her gaze turned shrewd as she looked at Jamie, her nose wrinkling slightly. "Why do you ask, Jamie?"

Jamie appeared genuinely puzzled. "I was just curious!"

Harris couldn't help but snort. "Have you all finished interrogating me? We still need to stop by the supermarket on our way back to restock our kitchen."

Isabella chimed in with casual ease, "Actually, I'd love to hang out with your friends."

Harris sighed, glancing at Jamie, Sammy, and David.

Sammy spoke up, breaking the tension. "Don't mind him, Isabella. He's a bit of an idiot. He didn't want to approach you first, even though we all know he kind of likes you."

"It's all good," Isabella assured.

"Alright, then. We're heading out now," Harris said, collecting Isabella's belongings. "See you guys at the university!"

"Goodbye!" Isabella waved cheerfully as they departed.

Once the door to the locker area closed behind them, the three friends collectively released a breath they hadn't realized they were holding.

As the two of them strolled toward the nearby supermarket, Harris reached for Isabella's hand.

"Was that okay?" he asked, a slightly awkward smile on his face. "I'm sorry if my friends made you uncomfortable, Isabella."

"Oh, Harris, don't worry about it," Isabella responded, swinging their joined hands. She grinned up at him and added, "I told you, remember? There's nothing for us to hide anymore."

Harris fell silent for a moment, stealing glances at Isabella's hand, so delicate in his own. He listened to her hum a tune that was both nonsensical and lovely. Even after all this time, he still found himself amazed at his luck. "You're an angel, Isabella, did you know that?"

Isabella playfully pouted. "You call me an 'angel' but still make me do all the dishes at home."

Harris chuckled. "Even divine beings have to share the housework. Besides, I've been cooking for you lately."

They both laughed, their steps light and easy as they continued walking to the supermarket before heading home.

As they entered the supermarket, Harris and Isabella navigated the aisles together, their shopping list in hand. It was a comfortable and familiar routine they had developed since moving in together. They exchanged playful banter about the best brand of pasta sauce, the merits of crunchy versus creamy peanut butter, and whether they needed to stock up on snacks for their upcoming movie night.

As they reached the produce section, Isabella reached out to inspect a pile of fresh apples. Her fingers delicately traced the fruit's skin as she considered their choices. Harris couldn't help but admire the graceful way she moved, the way she immersed herself in even the simplest tasks.

"Should we get some apples?" Isabella asked, breaking the comfortable silence.

Harris nodded, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Definitely. You make the best apple pie, you know."

Isabella blushed at the compliment, her gaze falling to the apples in her hands. "Well, I do try."

As they continued their shopping, Harris couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had brought them here. From the moment he had first laid eyes on Isabella at the community center in high school, to their college years filled with shared laughter, late-night study sessions, and their eventual decision to move in together, every moment had led them to this point.

He remembered the countless adventures they had embarked on, the way they had supported each other through the ups and downs of life, and the deep love that had blossomed between them. Harris had known for a long time that Isabella was the one he wanted to spend his life with, and he was grateful for each passing day they shared.

As they approached the checkout counter, Harris took Isabella's hand in his, their fingers intertwining naturally. They exchanged a glance, a silent affirmation of the love and understanding that bound them together.

Once they had paid for their groceries and made their way back to their cozy apartment, Isabella began unpacking their purchases while Harris prepared a pot of coffee. The comforting aroma filled the air as they moved around each other in the kitchen, a dance they had perfected over time.

As they continued to cook together, their laughter and the aroma of a home-cooked meal filled their cozy apartment, a testament to the love they had found in each other's arms. And so, they embarked on another evening together, knowing that their love would continue to grow, one day at a time.
