Chapter 47 The Cursed Lullaby - Unraveling the Mystery of the Crying Lady at the University of Santo Tomas

Part 1: The Haunting Melody
In the heart of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), the oldest university in the Philippines, a chilling legend lingered among students and faculty - the haunting presence of the Crying Lady. Whispers of encounters with the spectral figure had been passed down through generations, each tale more spine-tingling than the last.
The Crying Lady was said to be the ghost of a woman whose mournful cries echoed through the university's ancient halls. Her haunting presence was often accompanied by a haunting melody, a lullaby filled with sorrow and pain. Many believed that she was a mother in search of her lost child, while others speculated she was a woman who had suffered heartbreak or betrayal.
Part 2: The Inquisitive Scholar
Amidst the tales of the Crying Lady, there was one student at UST who was particularly intrigued - Vanessa, a bright and inquisitive scholar. Her fascination with the supernatural had always driven her to explore the unknown, and the legend of the Crying Lady was no exception.
Vanessa's heart was moved by the haunting lullaby that resonated through the university's corridors. Her curiosity grew with each story she heard from fellow students, and she couldn't help but feel a connection with the mysterious spirit. Determined to understand the truth behind the Crying Lady's sorrowful cries, Vanessa delved into the archives of UST's history.
Part 3: The Ghostly Archive
Within the depths of the university's library, Vanessa uncovered an ancient journal, carefully preserved through the ages. The journal belonged to a former student named Isabella, who had studied at UST during the Spanish colonial era. Vanessa's heart raced as she realized that Isabella's account could hold the key to unraveling the mystery of the Crying Lady.
As Vanessa perused the pages, she discovered Isabella's poignant story. The journal spoke of love and loss, heartache, and despair. It chronicled Isabella's forbidden love affair with a fellow student, Fernando, a young revolutionary fighting for independence from Spanish rule.
Part 4: Forbidden Love
Isabella and Fernando's love flourished in the shadows, concealed from the prying eyes of the university and their families. They found solace in each other's arms, taking refuge in secret meetings under the moonlit sky. But their love was a dangerous secret, one that could have dire consequences in a society bound by tradition and strict societal norms.
As the flames of revolution engulfed the nation, Fernando's involvement with the revolutionary movement deepened. His passion for freedom and justice consumed him, but it also led him down a treacherous path. The forces of oppression were relentless, and the revolutionaries were hunted down without mercy.
Part 5: Heartbreak and Betrayal
In a cruel twist of fate, Isabella's beloved Fernando was betrayed by a trusted comrade. The Spanish authorities apprehended him, and he was sentenced to death for his involvement in the revolution. Isabella's heart shattered into a million pieces as she learned of his fate, and she found herself torn between love and loyalty to her country.
In her desperation, Isabella sought help from her family, pleading for Fernando's life to be spared. But her pleas fell on deaf ears. Her family, bound by loyalty to the Spanish crown, refused to intervene, leaving Isabella with a broken heart and a soul burdened by grief and despair.
Part 6: The Cursed Lullaby
As the days turned into weeks, Isabella's grief manifested into a haunting melody - the lullaby of sorrow that would forever be associated with the Crying Lady. The lullaby was said to be a reflection of Isabella's pain, a mournful melody that echoed through the halls of UST.
In her sorrow, Isabella's spirit became bound to the university, unable to find peace in the afterlife. She wandered the campus, her cries and haunting melody becoming part of the university's folklore, a constant reminder of the enduring power of love and heartbreak.
Part 7: Vanessa's Revelation
Through Isabella's journal, Vanessa pieced together the tragic tale of the Crying Lady. As she read each word, she felt a deep connection with Isabella's sorrow and the weight of her unrequited love. Vanessa realized that the Crying Lady's haunting was not malevolent, but rather a reflection of the pain and longing she had carried in her heart.
Determined to give Isabella the peace she deserved, Vanessa embarked on a mission to honor her memory and share her story with the UST community. She organized a tribute to Isabella and Fernando, celebrating their love and sacrifice, and encouraging others to remember the sacrifices made during the fight for freedom.
Part 8: The Crying Lady's Redemption
As the tribute to Isabella and Fernando unfolded, the haunting melody of the Crying Lady filled the air. Vanessa stood before the gathered crowd and shared Isabella's story with a voice filled with emotion. She emphasized that the haunting was not a curse, but a testament to the enduring power of love and the indomitable spirit of those who fought for justice.
As the tribute came to an end, something miraculous happened. The haunting melody that had echoed through the halls of UST for centuries began to fade. In its place, a sense of peace enveloped the campus, as if Isabella's spirit had finally found solace.
Part 9: A Legacy of Love and Liberation
In the days that followed, the legend of the Crying Lady underwent a transformation. Isabella and Fernando's love story became a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the pursuit of freedom. The haunting melody was no longer seen as a curse, but as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.
The university community embraced Isabella and Fernando's legacy, ensuring that their sacrifice would never be forgotten. The Crying Lady's haunting became a cherished part of UST's history, a testament to the enduring power of love and the indomitable spirit of those who had walked its halls.
Part 10: Love Beyond Time
And so, the haunting of the Crying Lady at the University of Santo Tomas took on a new meaning - a legacy of love and liberation that transcended time and space. Isabella and Fernando's love story would forever be etched into the hearts of all who heard it, a reminder that love, even in the face of heartbreak and loss, had the power to transform and transcend the boundaries of life and death.

Reading the first one-shot story in this book is mesmeric. At the end of the stories I read, there is always a moral in it. I would love to read this book again and again for it's not just a book that tells a story of something, or someone but also their realization after their quest. The creativity and theme of the author stood out which makes the stories more interesting.
