8 - Keep Fighting

/Myrtle's Point of View/
We rushed to the hospital as soon as Sean told me about mom. The hospital said that a nerve in her brain punctured, and that's very dangerous.
"Drive faster!" I screamed at Sean as he was also panicking. I couldn't help but yell at him because I was very worried.
"Oh, heavens, please let my mom live," I whispered underneath my breath.
It was already 11 pm when we arrived at the hospital. As I rushed to my mom's room, she was being operated on.
"Miss, we have to do the operation to prevent the worst-case scenario. We will surely update you once the operation ends," a nurse said to me.
I cried the whole night while thinking of my mom. I couldn't see her suffering like that!
I feel so useless. What else could I do for her?
Damn.
"Shh, everything's going to be alright, Myrtle," Sean spoke with his deep, languid voice. He brushed his hand on my shoulder and tried to stop me from crying.
"It's easy for you to say that because you are rich! You weren't born like me, so everything to you seems easy," I replied subconsciously.
I realized what I said was harsh, but I hope he understands because I'm really in agony now.
"I understand, Myrtle," he said like he really understood what I said. It doesn't matter. I want my mom to be cured already.
If only I could take the sickness of my mom, I will.
I wondered how my family was probably worrying for my mom and me. They don't know what is happening because they don't have any medium to communicate with me.
Just how awful it is.
I continued crying for about an hour, and Sean gently patted my back to comfort me. His hands are probably tired now.
"Are you done?" he asked, and I nodded.
"Do you want to eat dinner first? We can come back after," he suggested.
"I am not hungry. You can eat all by yourself if you are starving," I lied. I am very hungry, but I don't want to leave mom behind without knowing what will happen. Who knows what could happen while I'm eating dinner?
"Then, I'll go buy dinner for the both of us. Is that alright?" he asked again.
I nodded my head.
He left me alone on the bench while I stared at the operation room's door. I can see lights and the shadows of the doctors walking around.
"Mom, please stay strong," I mumbled.
A purple ball suddenly landed on my foot, and I looked at where it came from. A boy hid at the post while looking at me and at his ball.
I smiled and grabbed the ball, then I walked towards him.
"Here you go," I solemnly said and knelt to level him. I saw his shirt and realized that he was also a patient in this hospital. I wonder if he feels happy here, playing all alone.
Or maybe there are other kids here too, but that's just sad. They shouldn't be staying here at a young age. They should be playing outside while being bathed by sunlight.
He immediately grabbed the ball and ran away.
One of my siblings is the same age as that kid. I miss my siblings. I hope they're doing well.
I returned to the bench, and the ball landed on my foot again. I looked at the kid, and he was already standing in front of me.
"Oh, you should be careful so that your ball wouldn't go anywhere," I said as he grabbed the ball.
"Who are you?" he asked cutely.
I got to see his cuteness now that he is closer to me. He has green eyes like Yohan.
Actually, they somewhat look alike.
"Well, I am waiting for my mom," I replied.
"Hmm, is your mom right in there?" he pointed at the operation room, and I nodded at him.
"Don't you want to go to bed? It's already late. You shouldn't be playing around," I said to him.
He shook his head and sat beside me on the bench.
"I don't want to sleep," he said with sadness in his voice.
"Why?"
"Because when I sleep, I don't know if I will still wake up the next morning. I'm scared," he mumbled and started sniffing.
I gasped when I heard him say that. It must be so hard for him to think about death as a child.
"I don't want to die yet," he added.
I couldn't help myself but hug him. I don't care if his sickness is contagious. I just want to hug him.
After that, I pulled myself away and looked at the kid in his eyes.
"You should keep fighting, kid. No matter what happens, you should live your life to the fullest. You know, a lot of people grow old without realizing their skills and their purpose, and I want you to find yours," I voiced, and he cried at my lap. I brushed his hair as he cried his heart. This kid deserves much more years of life. I don't know what kind of deadly disease he has, but I hope he gets healed too.
"I hope your mom gets healed too," he spoke.
"By the way, I am-"
"Joshua!"
The kid and I looked at where the voice came from. The voice came from a man.
"Joshua, where have you been?"
"Yohan?"
As soon as he met my eyes, he looked at Joshua and me and back at me again.
So, Joshua is the name of this kid. Is Yohan related to him?
Yohan was about to say a word, but he was breathing heavily.
"Uhm, Joshua was playing, and I met him. Apparently, we ended up conversing," I spoke.
Yohan nodded and smiled. "Joshua, didn't I tell you to stop roaming around the hospital late? It's dangerous," he said.
Joshua ran to Yohan and stretched his arms, signaling Yohan to carry him.
They look so adorable.
"Thanks, Myrtle. This is my brother, Joshua," Yohan introduced, and Joshua smiled at me.
"You know her?" Joshua asked Yohan.
"Yes. By the way, Myrtle, why are you here? Is something the matter?" Yohan asked in concern.
I forced a smile and replied, "Something happened to my mom. She's undergoing surgery right now."
Yohan lowered his head and said, "I'm sorry."
He doesn't have to be sorry.
"It's fine. I just hope the surgery will be a success," I replied.
The ball fell from Joshua's hands, and we both looked at Joshua. He's now asleep in Yohan's shoulder.
"As much as I want to talk to you more, Myrtle, I need to take my brother to his room," Yohan spoke.
"Alright. Take good care of Joshua. He is such a bright kid."
Yohan nodded. "Goodnight," he said.
I looked at Yohan and sleeping Joshua as they walked away from me. I couldn't believe they were really related.
That explains their eyes.
"Myrtle." I heard Sean's voice.
I looked at him, and he was holding a bag of food.
"Here you go. Please tell me if you want more, I can go buy again." He handed me the bag of food and sat beside me.
"I'm fine with these, thank you."
After eating, I felt really sleepy, so I closed my eyes and leaned my head on the wall.
"Sean, do you really want me?" I asked him subconsciously.
"Yes, why?"
"I just wonder. There are many better and prettier girls out there who are also rich. Why does it have to be me?"
"Hmm, maybe it's because I love you."
Why does he have to be too frank?
After that, I fell asleep.
...
I heard voices around, and it woke me up. I looked around the place, and it was already morning.
I saw Sean and a doctor standing in front of the operation room's door. I immediately walked towards them.
"What happened to my mom? Is she okay? How is she right now? Did the surgery go well?" I asked in worry.
The doctor looked at me, and she said, "Your mom is fine for the moment, but her condition got worse, and that doesn't mean that she's already going to stay here. We still need to bring her to Switzerland."
I felt like a stab of cold ice had been stabbed to my heart.
"But, she's going to be fine, right?" I asked the doctor even if I already knew the answer.
"No one knows, miss Myrtle. But we need to bring her to Switzerland as soon as possible to cure her immediately."
I looked at Sean and saw his face. Didn't he sleep last night? Was he looking after me?
Although, he still looked handsome.
"Sean, can you lend me money? I promise to pay it back to you once I find a high-paying job. I just... I just need to pay for my mom's bills. Please?"
"You don't have to pay for anything. Just be my wife."
