CHAPTER 21

AMANDA'S TASK HAD BEEN TRANSFERED TO JAMES
Their employer informed James that Amanda's tasks would be handled by James because Amanda was preoccupied with other personal concerns.
"Hey Amanda!  You didn't give me an update until now. I'm a little worried about you," he murmured to himself while working on the computer.
Their employer told James that Amanda had been unable to pick up the phone call and hadn't replied to the messages as the boss called at noon, but James actually received a message from Amanda at noon explaining that she was merely really busy.
"Hey, James goodmorning!"
"Please finish Amanda's tasks by tomorrow's deadline; it is required by our client."
"Yes, sir, I am currently editing."
"Ok, I will expect that tomorrow morning at nine o'clock!"
"I assure you, sir!"
After a long hour of computer work, James felt weary. He browsed the images on the computer to recall his moments with Amanda so, he wouldn't feel asleep. He looked at images and the dates and times they first met.
"I am happy that I have always been with her, and our first date was this photo at Queenstown."
They had met when she was in college at Barnard and he was in IT school at Columbia. He had been enchanted by Amanda's easy ways, her openness, her warmth, her energy, and her joy. He had always been quiet, reserved, and cautious with his words. He had piercing blue eyes and an athletic build. One of his business partners had died suddenly of a heart attack four years before, and James had been careful about diet and exercise since then. James had a hard time saving the business because his business partner's best friend died, and Amanda helped him get a job.
"She is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. I want to tell Amanda not to reside at her aunt's house because I don't want her to be away from me. I have a plan to marry her, but my savings are insufficient at the moment. I want the perfect wedding, and I want Amanda to be happy because she deserves it. I was about to tell her to go home, but something awful happened to her auntie Shaira, and Amanda needs to help and care for her, and she doesn't have any other relatives."
"It's strange to think why she was unable to respond boss's message while I received a text message from her."
"Okay, I don't have to overthink it; maybe she's really busy, so I'll just wait for her text or call, and I'll just finish what the boss told me," he told himself.
He went back to work on his computer and answered a phone call.
"Hello son! How are you?"
"I'm okay, Dad, I'm busy with work right now."
"Oh, I'm sorry to bother you, son!"
"It's okay, dad, no worries!"
"Take care of yourself there."
"Okay, dad!"
"By the way, your brother's birthday is the next day. Please invite Amanda; we want your mommy and your siblings to see her. It's been a while since you came to our place."
"Okay, Dad, I'll tell her."
"Say hello to her!"
"Okay, that's no problem."
"Alright, son, we'll wait for your arrival."
"I'm not sure, dad, but I'll inform you when we can actually go. We're still busy at work, but in case we can't go, I'll just send money, dad."
"Alright, son, we just miss you and your mommy and your siblings, and Amanda, we just want to be with her. We treated her like a daughter. Maybe she's just busy."
"Yes, dad, please forgive her; she's really busy. She is currently at her aunt's house, and she also has to take care of it because her aunt got injured, and then she has to work at the same time, which is also a bit difficult."
"Is that so, son? Oh, okay, Just be careful there and take good care of yourself."
"Okay, dad, thanks for calling."
Their conversation ended, and he hung up his phone. He remembered about Mike, but he decided to call Mike later, and more importantly, he needed to finish the task given by his boss as it had a deadline for tomorrow. A few hours later, when he couldn't fight his drowsiness so he adjusted the chair so he could feel relaxed.
He ran as someone chased him, but he didn't know who was chasing him. He was exhausted, and suddenly he saw a woman asking for help, but he couldn't see her. He looked for the crying voice, and he saw a cliff, and he looked at it to see if there was anyone, and he saw Amanda holding on to the limb of the tree. He quickly helped Amanda; he reached out his hand, and Amanda was holding his hands.
"Just hold on tight, babe."
"Do not let go!"
"Babe, it's like I can't do it! I love you so much, James!"
"Babe, just hold on and don't let go.We can do it, babe!"
"Babe! Amanda screamed because she really fell off the cliff. James suddenly woke up with tears. He cries while sleeping. He thought it was true—it was all just a dream. And there was a knock at the door.
"Sir, good afternoon! Sir Claude called you to the office!"
"Wait, sir, your eyes are red! Are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine! Thank you!"                                              Boss Claude's secretary came into his office.   He looked at the appearance of his face in the mirror and saw that his eyes were red and his clothes and face were wet. He was sweating because he fell asleep, and the tears were flowing in his eyes.
"My look is so shameful," he said to himself and went to the bathroom. When he woke up, it made him feel like he had a heavy heart. He entered his boss's office and handed over the advance payment.
"Oh sir, what is this? I'm not done yet with the project."
"I want to give you that so you can surely finish it by tomorrow; it will give you energy to do the project," his boss smiled.
"I can assure you, sir, that this will be finished tomorrow with accurate quality results for this project."
After working hours, Jason went home and continued his work; he wasn't able to sleep the whole night, and he often drank water rather than coffee as he was conscious of his health.
