Chapter 12: Betrayal

Marcus stood at the console, his heart pounding in his chest. He could hardly believe what was happening before his eyes. One of his crew members had turned against them and was now helping the aliens. Marcus had trusted this person with his life, and now that trust had been betrayed.
He tried to control his emotions as he watched the traitor hand over the technology they had brought with them to the aliens. The aliens, in turn, gave the traitor something in return. Marcus couldn't see what it was from his vantage point, but he knew it couldn't be good.
He quickly assessed the situation. There was no way the crew could fight the aliens and the traitor. They were outnumbered and outmatched. The only option was to escape and regroup. But how could they do that with the traitor in their midst?
"Everyone, listen up!" Marcus said his voice firm and commanding. "We need to get out of here. Now. But we have a problem. One of our own has betrayed us and is helping the aliens. We need to neutralize them and get to the shuttle. Move out!"
The crew quickly sprang into action, grabbing whatever weapons they could find and converging on the traitor. The traitor, however, was prepared and fought back fiercely. It was clear that they had been planning this for a while and had anticipated this moment.
Marcus and the crew battled fiercely, but the traitor was too well-prepared. It wasn't long before the traitor had the upper hand and was holding Marcus at gunpoint.
"Drop your weapons or your captain dies," the traitor said, their voice filled with malice and hate.
The crew hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. Marcus knew that he couldn't let the traitor win. He had to find a way out of this, no matter what it took.
He slowly reached for his weapon, trying to be as subtle as possible. The traitor didn't notice, and Marcus was able to grab his weapon and shoot the traitor before they could react.
The traitor fell to the ground, dead. Marcus quickly checked the pulse and confirmed it. He had no choice but to leave the traitor behind.
"Let's move out," he said, his voice shaking slightly from the adrenaline. "We don't have much time."
The crew rushed to the shuttle, hoping they could make it in time. They had left their helmets and other equipment behind, and the atmosphere outside was toxic. They would have to rely on the shuttle's air supply to survive.
As they made their way to the shuttle, they encountered more aliens. They fought them off as best they could, but they were running out of time. The shuttle was in sight, but they were still a few meters away.
Suddenly, one of the aliens appeared in front of them, blocking their path. It was different from the others, with a larger stature and a more menacing presence.
Marcus felt a sudden surge of fear. He had never encountered an alien-like this before. He knew that they were in trouble.
The alien lunged forward, its claws bared. Marcus tried to dodge, but he wasn't fast enough. The alien caught him on the arm, tearing through his suit and exposing him to the toxic atmosphere.
Marcus screamed in pain as he felt the burning sensation in his arm. The crew quickly rushed to his aid, but they knew it was too late.
"Get to the shuttle," Marcus said, his voice weak. "I'll hold them off."
The crew hesitated for a moment, but they knew they had no choice. They rushed to the shuttle, leaving Marcus behind.
Marcus watched as the shuttle took off, disappearing into the distance. He knew that he was going to die, but he refused to let the aliens win. He stood up, gritting his teeth against the pain, and prepared to fight.
The alien charged at him again, but this time Marcus was ready. He dodged to the side and fired his weapon, hitting the alien in a vulnerable spot. The alien roared in pain and stumbled backward.
Marcus fired again and again, hitting the alien with every shot. He knew he was running low on ammunition, but he refused to back down. He had to take the alien down, no matter what.
Finally, the alien fell to the ground, dead. Marcus breathed a sigh of relief, but he knew that it was only a matter of time before more aliens arrived.
He stumbled towards the shuttle, his arm hanging limply at his side. He could feel his strength waning, but he refused to give up. He had to make it to the shuttle.
He finally reached the shuttle, collapsing against it. The crew quickly rushed to his aid, pulling him inside and sealing the airlock.
Marcus collapsed onto the floor, his body wracked with pain. He knew that he was going to die, but he was glad that he had fought until the very end.
The crew tried to help him, but it was too late. Marcus took one last shuddering breath and then went still.
The crew sat in stunned silence, mourning the loss of their captain. They knew that they had a long journey ahead of them, filled with danger and uncertainty. But they also knew that they had to keep going, no matter what.
They would honor Marcus's memory by continuing the fight, never giving up, and doing whatever it took to protect their home and their people.
As the shuttle hurtled through space, the crew vowed to never forget the sacrifice that Marcus had made and to always remember the lessons that he had taught them. They were the Galactic Revenants, and they would fight to the bitter end.
